My friend who was a service advisor at BMW agreed with me in that we would both love to have a European 6er of that vintage with an I6 under the hood instead of a V8 or V10; they were nice cruisers.

Selling aggragate info, say by model, is one thing, selling your individual info is something else. Where do they slide that permission into the sales process?

The owner of the vehicle agrees to all sorts of conditions when they decide to plug that transponder into the OBD port in return for lower insurance rates. I do that and my insurance costs less than half what I was paying previously. I couldn’t take more than a few minutes of that bozo preaching at his iPhone before I had to switch off that awful video.
I know of at least one homebuilt adapter that plugs in between the OBDII port and the insurance dongle; it essentially turns you into a VERY safe driver.

people think about that with those insurance dongles, but probably not with the standard features built into their new car. I know all that stuff expired on our Acura after the free trial year, and every so often they remind me hoping I will sign up and pay. Not that I even know what it would give me.
I thought all cars were doing that now. Isn’t the government mandating surveillance systems in all cars built after 2026 with kill switches for remote shutdown in case of “safety” concerns?
I know that many of the company cars already have this capability. We once caught a thief who stole a car from the airport by using the onstar to track him and shut the car off once the police were behind him.

You’d be surprised how many people trade in with negative equity without even knowing it.
“We can get you out of your lease clean. You won’t have to pay any over mileage charges, excess wear & tear charges, and we’ll even save you the disposition fee.”
They don’t tell you that you will be rolling $5K worth of negative equity into your 36 month lease.

————————————————- And for those with hot pants, that know math, and hold to their guns for a lower payment will fall for a longer lease with lower payments. Dealerships have to be on guard for payment buying folks with math skills to make sure they don’t get screwed while selling cars.

well, during my lease days, that fell into the "I don't care" bucket! Basically if I had my target terms, and they met them, I was good with it and didn't really matter to me how they made them work. And yes, I know that means in theory I could have worked the deal lower, but considering I only leased when the deal seemed to be below what was possible, didn't want to be greedy!
Kid has been driving the Fiat while the Opel is laid up. Doing its Italian stuff. I had detailed the original startup problem. A couple of days later, it decided it can no longer communicate with the TPMS. Today, a plastic retaining clip on the driver window disintegrated. I think I found the right one on amazon, but I’ve got the glass secured with duct tape in the meantime.
Speaking of the Opel, we tried to tackle that this weekend. I managed to pull the axle and replace the inner joint, but the brake pads were incorrect, so I had to place another order. While we are at it, I found the ball joints and endlinks not in the best shape, so those are on their way, too.

————————————————- When I bought my 2 Genny’s (from different dealers) eventually they met my price (I never backed off of my price) so, it’s hard to argue with yourself when you get your price.
Contrast that with what happened when Mrs. j got her first Subie (2012) from a dealer in the Columbus Ohio area. Son #1 and I researched what we thought would be a good price. This dealer sent each of us what looked like a standard email signed only by the dealership on a Sunday night with a price that was just a little more than what I wanted to pay. Twenty minutes later I (not my Son) got an email with what they called their E-Price sent by a salesman. This price was around $350 less than what I was willing to pay. I called my Son and we both agreed if they weren’t playing games that price had to be getting into their hold-back money.
I called Monday morning after I got to work and had my coffee and did some small talking with the salesman who sent the last email. I was thinking I’d try to get an even better price using the philosophy of, “if you don’t ask, you don’t get”. I’ll never forget the salesman saying, “@Mr. jmonroe, from talking with you a little bit, I can tell you know something about the car biz so you have to know we’re already into our hold-back money so I can’t sell the car for anything less than our E-Price”. And that ended the call. I let him stew about my offer until after lunch and I called back and took their E-price since it was better than what I was expecting to get.
I tried to get a little greedy but it didn’t work but I’m not sorry that I tried.

This can work as well. Being a ‘payment shopper’ is not always a bad thing if the buyer is well informed. Particularly on leases where there is most likely no positive equity.

Lovely integra. I looked at those new back when they first came out. But the rat belts just kill it for me.
I inherited a rat belt car when I got married in 1993. Hated that with a passion. 😕
My 91 Sentra had the belts attached to the door rather than the B-pillar. I guess the idea was you kept the belt buckled even when you opened the door.
Just no real good solutions to that problem. Glad when airbags became standard and all that nonsense went away.
