Son Likes the telluride. Does not mention the Audi much but does appreciate the meaty tires.

His recent regret was when I sent him a rodo offer on an SQ5 sport back lease (his boss was looking at a Q5 SB and I was doing research). It was much better than the base model and actually surprisingly cheap. He said if that had been an option he would have leased that instead of buying the Kia.

Punches for the @breld family will be light this year, if not a complete break.

As @michaell mentioned, our two EVs are leased, with both maturing in 2025. I’m not gonna let that Corvette go yet. We’ll see how Mrs. Breld feels once the X5 returns from the body shop. On that note, the preliminary estimate on that damage was in the $3k range, which we knew was laughable. Apparently we were right…now that the SUV is at the shop, the estimate has ballooned to five figures. I imagine the young woman who was reading her texts instead of looking ahead at the stopped traffic may have trouble renewing her insurance.

We’re also into phase II of working with an interior designer on the house…who knew that a brand new home needed so much work? We could buy another Bronco for what we’re putting into the basement…and keep in mind the basement was already finished. :o

What are you doing down there? I didn’t think it needed much.

Yeah but you ain’t an “official interior designer” who works on lucrative sales commissions.

Have decided to remove the old tint and not replace it quite yet. I know it'll be super hot when I get back to the vehicle after work but am willing to live with it for awhile. Funny, we picked up some vehicles at a tint shop in West Palm today and they had samples of tint with the % of tint on a wall so I could really see the difference. So, if I do decide to have tint re-applied in the future, need to go back there and really spend some time looking at the different choices. The current tint was supposed to be the lightest our original guy had in stock but it was pretty dark and even though we both questioned the installer, he assured us it was his lightest shade. Think if we had more choices, we would've been much happier. Guess the folks who do it mobile only seem to carry a few choices instead of the seven or eight I saw today. Luckily, I took home one of their promotional pens which has their address and e-mail address as they are up in West Palm Beach which is a good 40 miles from us.

If I do decide to re-tint the car, which is at 50/50 right now, I really want more choices and I'm assuming tinting products have improved in the last nine years. Right now, both Hyundai's in the family are tint-less and looks like it'll stay that way. I will not do it again if all they can offer is the same dark tint as before. But seeing the choices I did see today gives me hope that I can find the lightest tint possible with a good amount of heat protection.

That same light that came on when the tranny cable broke about 5 months ago has reared it's ugly head a few times in the last month which has made me a bit anxious. I'm hoping it's nothing as I'm hoping the tint guy can come this week to take it all off. But, am still torn between just replacing the car. This was so much easier back in 2014 when the new Audi was in the garage and felt it was time to just dump the Tucson and get something fun. But, still think the best choice is to wait another year, or in December, see what's out there and then make a decision. The new 2025 Nissan Kicks will be out also so I can add that to my short list. Best thing here is that I've got plenty saved up so far and waiting a bit longer will mean I won't have to finance anything, something I don't want to do in the first place.

Honestly, this has been one of the toughest decisions in my whole life. Think I'm still a bit gun shy after the whole Hyundai Tucson debacle and just don't want to have buyers remorse afterwards. And sometimes I think, with a difficult decision, just doing nothing for a bit longer is the best decision of all. This really should be an easy decision like it was when I bought the Golf. I just knew, just knew within 5 minutes behind the wheel I was going to own this vehicle eventually. And right now, nothing out there gives me that same gut reaction which is a sign I need to sit back and wait a bit longer. And that's o k...as long as nothing goes wrong with the Golf. But, that's a risk I'm willing to take!

The $2800 of accessories (what are they?) makes this a stupendously bad deal. $90/mo right there.

That's why these dealers are choking on inventory right now. They're all building new showrooms too. I understand if the manufacturer's program is awful, but don't tell me that I'm lucky that the car is "only " selling for MSRP. I know too that not everybody within reason is going to be able to touch the broker's price.

The extras are out of control here:

    23/24 VEK: $995
    CILAJET: $895

That’s almost $27k to rent a CRV for 3 years. And if you buy it out at residual and pay 7% sales tax (without even counting in financing costs or dealer ir DMV fee) you are going to be into it for 54k.

Playing third base coach for a friend looking for a CRV lease OMG. They are proud of those.

One dealer wouldn’t take any of three BS packages off ($3000) and another basically said “it’s sticker price up and all add/ons are mandatory”

I sent them the broker who got Mom the CX-50

Speaking of that… she loves it! She feels it’s a much nicer drive than the Murano and the size is perfect.

I think that’s just because they are Honda dealers. They have well regarded cars and can sell all they can get so they figure why not gouge the customer. Negotiations with the Honda place that had my truck was extremely difficult although I did get them to drop the useless VIN etching that they listed as “theft deterrence”.

That they thought they could slap a corny scam like that on a non-Honda used car makes me think they are used to getting their way.

I told him I didn't want it. He said "But it's already on there". Being nice, I said "I'll give you $100 for it".
It did have an insurance component to it. He said "Never mind".
He was such a jerk that he made us go back to the salesperson's desk and the guy had to go back an forth between us and the office for each thing.
I was really happy when we were walking out of there and 'Jerry' (he looked like Jennifer Grey's dad in Dirty Dancing) hadn't realized he forgot to ask me for the title to my trade in.

Yeah, the Honda doesn't come with $16K in incentives.

EVs are a great lease deal, at the moment. Way under 1% of MSRP, for the most part.

We figure a good 60% or more of the questions we get in the forums are for EV/PHEV models.

The one CarMax sells is pretty good, from what I've heard. It used to be underwritten by CNA, not sure whether it still is. I'd be wary of any warranty provider that may be in a position to become insolvent and cease paying the underwriter, as that may invalidate existing warranties--that happened to customers of Warranty Gold (I think) and some others in the early 2000s.

If I wanted one, I'd strongly prefer (and be willing to pay a premium for) an OE-backed extended warranty.

I’ve heard from a couple folks that Endurance is probably the best third party warranty company. Car Shield is not as good but they rely on their heavy advertising. I have to see Car Shield commercials on TV at least 4 or 5 times a day.

Personally, I’d stay with the car manufacturers extended warranty. Probably pay more but is probably worth it.

What brand of car and is it in factory warranty still?

I’d always lean towards the manufacturer brand warranty if possible.

Otherwise the Fidelity Platinum and Zurich are used by MB/BMW/Porsche guys.

I’d suspect Allstate is reputable- they have VSC. I’ve used them for wheel and tire with no issues.
