I used to wear jorts. My now wife made it a condition of marriage that I dispose of them.

Somehow, it’s OK for women to wear them. I don’t understand.

Arrived at my parents' house with 20% charge at about noon on Wednesday and threw the Ariya on the 120V charger. It finally charged to 100% at about 5:30 PM yesterday and I unplugged it. Can't tell for certain about its self-discharge rate, since there may be some heuristic around the 100% mark, but it's still showing 100% and 203 miles of range this morning.

Good news. Not sure when you want it to arrive but delivery time, at least when I was buying, can vary quite a bit.

I see a lot of the kids wearing tall socks again … that’s a trend I didn’t think would come back.

Another thing my feeble mind won’t comprehend is slides with socks.

I don’t need it till August at the earliest. But I want it now.

Haven’t even initiated the lease end process with the Jeep. Think I might pay for a professional detailing before the inspection.

I probably wouldn't bother unless there are scratches that need to be touched up. If it's simply dirty, that shouldn't be an issue.

Back from a week in Maui. Great golf, great food and great times! Rental was a Grand Cherokee L. Thank goodness it was an L otherwise we’d have had bags strapped to the top. It was a Limited 4x4 in black over black so my most least desirable color combo. Not a bad place to spend some time. Comfortable, reasonably peppy and the quality of the interior finishes were on par with a $55k+ vehicle. Air vents on the dash were very thin so output suffered.

Rental Wranglers were everywhere and easily 3/4 of them were 4xe’s. I guess the bottom has fallen out of that market.

Which trim of the Taos is that? I like the SE myself, which is what I've got in my current Golf, the middle grade. But, I wish I had gone with the SEL back in 2014. Do like it in that color and the 0% financing is very tempting right now. Looks to be about 175" or so but need to look at my spec sheet because anything longer then that just won't fit on my side of the garage. Sure wish I had a garage similar to yours, heck, I'd love a 3-car garage!

Just looked. The "S" model has the 0% financing right now so not sure if the upper level trims have the same financing rate. The specs show 175.8" so now remember why I took it off the short list. It'll just be a bit too long to fit and keeping my vehicle outside is just something I don't want to do.

My truck won’t fit on the right side of the garage, but my wife’s car will easily.

I’ve been hesitant to give up my work bench on her side (left) but I’ve made the decision to do it once we are fully back home in Sept.

Removed the dealer-installed spyware GPS device (CarDoc or something) from the Ariya. I'm sure Nissan is already getting all of my location data, etc., I don't need some less-reputable third party getting it from a second source. The Nissan app already tells me where it's parked.

Sandy - it’s an SE trim.

We had spent Friday afternoon and then the better part of Saturday shopping, looking at the Civic Hatch and Integra, the Mazda CX-30 and CX-50 and the Kona and Tucson before landing at VW. My stepdaughter initially liked the CX-30 the best, but my wife pointed out how tiny it was on the inside and convinced her that may not be the best idea for long-term. So then she gave the CX-50 a chance and ended up loving that. Even the lower trim models, which may have squeaked within our budget, are well equipped.

We actually stopped at the Mazda dealer Saturday morning to give them a first shot (we had already been there Friday afternoon and decided the CX-50 was top of the list). To be fair, I didn’t call ahead, and our salesperson was with another buyer. I told him we could just schedule a time to return since we were looking at other cars, and he sort of surprised me by agreeing and saying it’d be best if we came back later that afternoon.

So off we went to Hyundai and then VW. This whole thing started with my stepdaughter texting us a picture of that exact Taos, so obviously she already was drawn to it. Salesperson was fantastic and the deal was so easy that we just decided to get it done. Sorry Mazda salesperson!

good choice. My daughter is not really a big fan of her CX-30, and is looking forward to shopping next spring (I get to help this time!) since her lease is over June, 2025. It is a big cramped inside, and the gas tank is tiny and it annoys her to have to fill it so often (does not really get great MPG for something that size, a definite problem when it has a tiny tank).

She really wants a Volvo. that should be fun!

Dealer installed spyware? Did they tell you they were installing that? I’d be livid.

I have zero tolerance for vehicle transmitted information going to ANYONE. Recently the dealer where I bought the truck sent me two happy birthday greetings. I realized the only place they could have gotten that information was off my driver’s license so I told them thanks for the wishes but knock off using my personal information for marketing.

There was a form about it when I was signing the documents for the car. Also, they sent an email inviting me to register it. It reminded me a little too much of the stuff BHPH lots use so they can repo cars (which I'm sure also sell location data), so i deleted it.

Now that we have a new Outback for my wife, she suggests just selling our 2018 CR-V to our daughter at a very low price, rather than lending it to her long-term. Gives our daughter more stake in it being her car, and my wife says for insurance/liability that's a wiser move. Any thoughts?

If she is going to need a car long term then I say do it. Cleaner and safer for you guys and a milestone in adulting for your daughter. If she just needed it for a few months then a loan makes sense.

I supplied wheels for both kids through college but once they were out and got real jobs (and moved out of the house for them) they got cut off. Daughter was easy, that was a lease that ran out at the end of July after graduation. Son had our ancient TL which I kept for a little while for myself and eventually sold and bought something new. He leased a car to take on his new adventures.

Coincidentally seeing the Taos discussed here, I had just watched a Motormouth piece on the same vehicle, although in "Black Edition" trim. I don't understand the obsession the industry currently has with black, but whatever. In this case the black bits are difficult to differentiate from the standard trim which already has a lot of black.

They were saying that the Taos has essentially replaced the no-longer-available Golf for VW in the NA market. Aside from a discussion of the quirky DSG transmission in the AWD models that some people have a problem with (the FWD version has a regular 8-speed autobox) they were their usual positive selves. I hadn't actually seen one up close, so yesterday with the dealerships closed around here and finding myself about to drive past the local VW place, I stopped in to look. They had the exact same down to color Black Edition model parked out front. In that Cornflower Blue color (one of only 4 paint choices available unfortunately) it looked OK though if there was more choice I probably wouldn't pick that, but since they only offer white, black and gray otherwise it probably would be at the top of the list. This version has a decent-looking interior with various tones of gray and black upholstery inside with blue stitching. Aside from the transmission in the AWD model they did note that it seems relatively slow with the little 1.5L turbo, with some owners saying it needs a larger engine.

As I was scouring their lot it seems they sell 90%+ CUVs/SUVs as it was packed with Tiguans and Atlas models. It's too bad the Atlas is so huge as I like its looks. But what caught my eye were the 4 Golf R models in inventory, 3 of them black and one in that purple metallic I like. There were also a few Jetta GLIs there which looked good to me. Then I remembered thinking about VWs reliability and the issues people report with problems both major and minor and I left wondering if, when the time comes, would I want to deal with that? It would be a leap of faith for sure. Glad I'm not in the market.

The discussion about Mazdas is interesting. It seems like the public are either Mazda people or not. I have a difficult time with their products which seem to have a few long-standing compromises built in (the 6-speed automatic, the infotainment, the excess of black plastic trim outside) that they seem unwilling to address. I know from my limited experience riding in them that there is a bit of NVH with the ones I've been in which I suppose people consider an acceptable trade-off for the zoom-zoom factor. I have a hard time understanding their direction. I noted to my surprise a couple of lightly used CX-90s on the used lot at the dealer I visited yesterday which surprised me since I haven't really seen many on the road here yet. Hopefully they weren't retail sales that owners had already had enough of.

Another oddity I didn't become aware of until recently is the CX-70 (2 row) and CX-90 (3 row) share the same dimensions with the CX-70 getting a huge rear cargo area. I think pricing is the same too so I don't know why anyone would go for the CX-70 with one less row instead of a CX-90 with a 3rd row you can leave folded until needed.

It is baffling for sure. Why they didn't engineer a 3rd row seat that could be removable like minivans have and just produce a single model is another Mazda mystery.

I'd pick the 2-row over the 3-row, every time. Those fold down seats still take up space when folded, and I'm never putting six or more people in my vehicle. (or 20 bags of mulch, either.. lol)
