Geez Bradd, you guys are just falling apart. Hang in there. That knee does sound painful.

watching price is right at night for lack of anything better to do (should be packing boxes, but nah). So far contestants won a nice Mach E (in the bright blue) and an orange C8 Corvette (I really liked that one. showed the wife, she said we could get it in blue).

now one just tried for and didn't get a G Wagon.

As someone with a very bad knee that in a perfect world would have already been replaced, my sympathies to your wife. I am curious about the “synthetic cartilage” you mentioned. Is it a product called “Synvisc” by chance? That is a hyaluronic acid with a heavy viscosity that gets injected into the knee. I had it done early in April but it was only effective for a couple of months before it wore off.

How about that.... in perfect matching order between age and mileage. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised!

My curve was inverted in April, as we had 124k on the 15 RDX but just 88k on the 13 Jetta. Trading the Jetta on a 21 Tiguan (will hit 40k next time we drive it) puts things back in order.

Missed that you got a Tiguan 3 years ago. How do you like it so far?

We just got the Tiguan this April with 38K on it, and we're enjoying it so far. My wife is the primary driver, but we also now (mostly) take the VW whenever we go somewhere together. At highway speeds, it pulls nicer than you expect with a turbo 4, and while the downshifts could come quicker they're a lot smoother than the 6-speed auto in the RDX.

And it says Carrera 4 but RWD?
Did he at least get an inspection, especially the IMS?
I guess it is too late to mention it is worth just $10k-$11k on a trade?

Thanks for your kind words. I’m not sure the material, but will find out. She’s only 47, so too young and active (skiing, tennis, pickleball) for a traditional knee replacement .

You at least got to see it.

When we got home from dinner we stared to watch The Price is Right at Night but they interrupted the show after a few minutes here and carried on for I don’t know how long about the weather. Yeah, it poured for a few minutes and it was really coming down but they kept stirring up the possibility of tornadoes and they never stopped. Finally, I had enough and watched something on the DVR. If they don’t talk about the weather around here they wouldn’t have much to talk about since the shootings seem to be almost at record lows.

Thanks for letting me know what I missed.

Took the Maser out for a real shakedown tonight. Everything worked the whole 30 mins. Towards the end, the bushings were squeaking a bit. Guess they don’t like being pushed hard. My summary? It is probably the closest to the CTS VSport I’ve felt. It shrinks around you and makes you forget how big and heavy it is. Good thing the brakes are so strong because I nearly overcooked it in a 70-degree turn that is closely tied in by trees on the far side. It feels a bit flinty when hitting bumps in turns, so it often asks you to back off a bit. Overall, I think a worthy replacement for the Charger. It won’t get nearly the attention, but it is more fun to drive while providing similar utility.

Sorry about your wife. Knee and back pain are the worst. Your MIL might have been a victim of that cyber attack effecting dealers across the country. 15,000 dealers couldn’t process anything electronically.

I do know that he hasn’t picked it up yet so I’ll ask about price and IMS.

911 is Carrera 2. Not sure if IMS done. Dealer sent oil for analysis but he will have IMS done either way. Paid $21k and seems thrilled. I’m not gonna say a word.

Thank-you all for your kind words and well wishes!

I can see why Toyota's RAV4 is wildly popular. I have an XLE (not sure if it is a '23 or '24) AWD 4cyl (non-Hybrid) as a loaner while our '22 Highlander is at the dealer for some maintenance. The little SUV is comfortable, handles very predictably well, & soaks up road imperfections (potholes, expansion joints) with ease. While it isn't going to win any stop light drag races, I found the power adequate for merging and passing. It seems like a fantastic vehicle for a new driver.

Not such a fun time to be a member of the nyccarguy household. My wife had knee surgery on Monday. The doctor extended a ligament, shaved behind the kneecap, & injected synthetic cartilage. She’s in excruciating pain as to be expected day 1 at home. I left for work this AM at 10:00ish thinking my mother in law was going to come up and be there by 10:30. Murphy’s law, she got stuck getting a state inspection at the car dealer because the machine broke, then hit traffic everywhere she turned. She didn’t get to my house until after 1:00. My wife was home by herself!

I started to not feel well and am trying my best to take care of my wife. I don’t know if it is Covid or a cold or a virus…. Then I got bitten by a yellow jacket! I found the nest under my deck and left a message with the exterminator for tomorrow AM.

I dropped off the Highlander for service this evening. Picked up a RAv4 XLE (gas) as a loaner. So far it was ok driving home from the dealership. I’ll see how it drives on the way to & from work tomorrow.

Well that stinks. Bummer that they didn’t do an adductor canal block to ease the pain - can make them last 1.5-2 days if you add some decadron.

Hope you both get feeling better.

It is a great vehicle and they Jack up the prices because they know people will pay. My daughter has the PHEV. Hyundai and Kia versions have nicer interiors and lower pricing (though Hyundai is starting to command higher pricing for the PHEV). My neighbor has the Tucson PHEV, I have the Sportage PHEV. The PHEV version is peppier than gas-only. And they are all in basic black! They are very practical vehicles. Good dog cars too.

The RAV4 I had as a 10-day rental a year or so ago was absolutely awful. I suspect it had something wrong with the tires or suspension but the road noise was intrusive and I hated the thing. Everything seemed unintuitive too. The infotainment was totally inscrutable but that wasn’t the only problem. I spent 10 minutes in my driveway trying to figure out how to get the rear hatch to open at one point. I had to resort to the owners manual to find the correct process and still couldn’t get it open at first. It was ridiculous. God knows what that thing went thru in it previous history but it made me never want to drive one again.

I thought that the Carfax looked really good, TBH. Nothing significant on the collisions; really, pretty expected for that many miles. More than 75% of the miles were put on in about a five-year period. The owner's brother apparently used it for long-haul duties, maybe as an auto carrier, between Virginia and Missouri based on the frequency of service logs bouncing between those two states.

Anybody here test drive or buy a Genesis GV70 yet? @breld ?

Seems like a good overall package with a few oddball design elements but nothing totally unforgiveable (I think). With the good drive train 3.5T it's pushing in the $60-70K bracket. That's some mighty fine automobile company such as low mileage '20-'21 Macan Turbos

Biggest turnoff is I had some spare change time and drove to the Genesis dealership (not many of those around), and the manager said his salesforce was too busy for a test drive, and to come back another day/time. I think he was anticipating his sales guy grinding it out with someone as it seemed they were going back and forth. Huge turnoff. I feel like at the Porsche dealership they know the cars drive so well they just toss you the keys and go have at it without wasting my time (wait, that did happen). At Genesis...feel they are hiding a low budget driving experience..... Manager did not offer to toss me the keys; I prefer solo test drives personally.

I test drove the 2.5T version of the GV70 a year or two ago, with @breld. I thought it was a nice package, and the 300HP of the 4-cyl engine was enough for this pedestrian driver - certainly faster than the H6 in our Outback.

However, I do believe @breld had a comment on the Genesis compared to Audi/BMW/MB, in that the interior materials of the Genesis were not quite the same quality as those of the German brands.

Since you have owned Audis, you might notice this more than the average shopper (I, for one, thought the interior was just fine in my test drive example).

"just fine" is fine. For most people. But even I as an Audi snob recognize Porsche is taking it to another level, and that's a good thing.

I figured the 2.5T would be reasonable, likely very comparable to the Mazda CX-50 turbo I just drove. The Honda Passport felt dead in comparison. Maybe I'm getting too used to turbos and/or superchargers.

I went back and looked at the servicing of this beast. I never saw a vehicle that needed as much fuel system servicing as this thing. Might be why it’s being sold.

Sure fits the old Ford adage of Fix or Repair Daily.

Had to spend about $1,200 to get my AC system at home up to speed and par for this Summer. I got one hot day of cold air out of it, and on the 2nd day of the heat wave, UGGHHH!!!!! Took them since Saturday to come out today!

I just had an HVAC guy come out and give our AC an inspection. The unit is 8 years old, so figured it was time to give it a once over.

Technician was pretty impressed with the condition of the unit. Everything is working exactly as expected, all we had to do was change the filter (which I had on hand).

$79 trip charge, and worth every penny for the piece of mind, especially since we've had 90+ temps for almost a week.

My daughter-in-law finally replaced her Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 125,000 miles. They got an XC-90.

Tomorrow (Friday) is supposed to be the day we finally go look at the 2025 Forester they have been holding for Mrs. venture. We will see.

I don't think they noticed I ate all their cookies.

    My thoughts?

Do you need a super duty?

I’ll happily sell you my Sierra with 25% the miles for the same price." alt="" height="20" />

Haha! I would happily buy that truck, but not for that price. :p

Miles don't matter much to me. I am thinking just having a rig that lives in Ohio for use while we're there. We have lots of projects lined up down there, so having something that can haul, pull, carry, or push might be very useful.

I actually miss our XC90. It was an excellent vehicle. Sat 7, quick, handled well for a barge and super comfortable.

I noticed how gutless the Honda J35 can be at highway speeds when I went from my old Volvo wagon to my current RDX a few years back. Whereas the Tiguan feels better than it should given its power numbers.

There is something to be said for turbos that come in at low rpm (which is all the newer ones, as opposed to just the European manufacturers back in the '00s).

My parents just had their system replaced. The old one was 12+ years old. Leaking coil, also the refrigerant is apparently now unobtainium, so time for a new one. Also, the furnace was 25 years old, so they replaced that, as well, while they were doing all the other work.

They have had a lot of A/C issues since they built that house. My theory is that a lot of it has to do with it being a 5-ton compressor, which is the maximum that you can run on single phase power, so the equipment is basically engineered on the bleeding edge.
