A couple of interesting things now that I'm logged in on Nissan's financing page:
    1. Apparently, they do not offer the option to purchase EVs at the end of the lease, nor to buy them out.
    2. If you are over mileage, there is a $0.25 per mile penalty. But, if you purchase additional miles mid-lease (at least 30 days before lease maturity), the cost is only $0.10 per mile. So, you can really mile it up and then get a huge discount on the overage if you just pay for it 30+ days before lease end. I doubt I will go over 15k, but we'll see! Definitely an added incentive to keep the Maverick parked.

sweet deal. I would definitely grab one of those at that price and flip the Acura.

did a walk through on the new house today, and it does have a 220 outlet in the garage. so any time I get a plug in, just need to get a charger and hang it on the wall and plug it on in.

    ————————————————-
I’m glad I’m not considering an EV of any type because my house was built in 1975 and the electric service at that time was only 100 AMPS. I’m pretty sure the code in these parts for a new build today is at least 200 AMPS.

Of couse I could put in a Level 2 charger and make sure the electric dryer isn’t turned on or buy a gas dryer. When we moved in here the house had a gas line but we had an electric dryer so I had to run a 220 Volt line for that. So the choice is mine as to what I’d do if and when I go electric.

Then again, I could always yank out the old panel and install a 200 AMP panel like we’ve done to a couple flips. The panel cost would only be about $125 bucks (our cost) so that’s not too bad since I never charge myself for labor.

I don't think I ever posted the full details, but the "sign and drive" lease on my Ariya is $178.75 per month for an 18 month lease with 10k miles per year. Looking forward to keeping some miles off the Maverick!

Hell, at that price I think I should buy one just so I can say I’m environmentally conscious. Plus, having a rolling spare ain’t a bad idea either.

My small (under 1,200 square feet) house had one of those Federal-Pacific panels that would spontaneously combust, at the time I bought it. IIRC, got $1,000 credit from the seller to have it replaced, and I spent a little more and had the service upgraded to 200 amps. 100 would have probably been adequate, even with an EV charger, but I also used to live in a house in Lexington with 60 amp service, and if the central A/C, dryer, and maybe 1-2 more appliances were running, the master breaker for the entire house would trip, so it's nice to have some overhead.

My parents moved from the Burgh to an up and coming suburb in 1956. Built a new 3 BR, 1 bath ranch that had a 60 AMP service and my Mother had a state of the art electric kitchen with cook top and built in oven. She was the envy of the neighborhood.

We never had AC when I was growing up but not too long after I left they put a window box AC in their bedroom. Then one day my Dad got the bright idea to put a huge window box AC in the dining room window. I tried to talk him into spending a few more bucks and do central AC. They had the money to do it but opted for this humungous Sears unit that I think was 22,000 BTU’s which took a 220 Volt line that I installed for them and they were tickled pink. That beast cooled the entire house except the hall and bedrooms. It never once blew the main 60 AMP fuses but it was noisy. Yes that house had a fuse panel and it did till the house was sold.

We may extend the dryer line out to the garage for the Blazer. We have a gas dryer, so it’s a cheap way to get the 240 volt to the garage. Haven’t driven it enough to charge it yet, and I’m going to see what it costs to charge at the fast chargers about a mile away from me.

The down side of that is most electric dryers are connected to a 220 V, 30 AMP circuit and most Level 2 chargers require a minimum of 220 V, 40 amps, some even 50 amps. The 30 AMP circuit can be wired up to any Level 2 charger but it won't charge as fast as intended. However, it's still much better than charging with a 110 volt circuit.

My guess is most people can live with transferring a 30 amp dryer circuit to a Level 2 charger, you just have to plan better.

Yikes! I just read that the feds spent $8 billion and only built 7, yes seven EV chargers. At that rate it would take a million years to get to the 500k they promise.

    What’s up with that?

Other than the panel would you have to install larger or additional electric lines to the house? My house only has 150 amp service and I was wondering what it would cost to upgrade.

That depends on the utility and the area your house is in. Codes change over the years and that will dictate what service ampacity your utility uses for service entry cable in any given area. For instance, the house my parents built in 1956 had the original over head lines. 3 individual wires from the pole to the house. That type of connection is no longer used. Utilities switched over to triplex cable (3 wires twisted together) around here by the early 70’s. Triplex cable has better insulation so, believe it or not, the same size wire conductors can handle higher current. On top of that, I’ve found out that the cable from the mast head to the panel (which is the responsibility of the home owner) in my neighborhood was upsized by the electrician that wired our homes. So, in my case, I can replace a 100 amp panel with a 200 amp panel without the need for larger wires from the panel to the mast head.

Once again you have to check what you need in your area. Note that I just talked about above ground service entrance cable. Underground service has a different applicable code but I’m willing to bet that you can upsize your panel and at worst only have to change the cable from the panel to the bottom side of the meter socket which is very easy to do.

    As usual, YMMV.

I live in an older home with a 150 amp panel. I recently leased a Mustang Mach E. I had to purchase a different charger as the one from Ford was pulling too many amps for my 30 amp breaker. I didn't want to have to run a new wire to my detached garage. I was able to use the existing wire. The new charger I bought (less than $200), is configurable from 12 to 40 amps. I have mine set to I believe 24 amps. (I don't remember exactly). It improved my charging time dramatically from the 110 plug.

Okay, so the 2013 F250 is a done deal. My brother called this morning as he was driving it home. Now I'm definitely looking forward to the trip to Ohio!

I would very much like to replace the 100A service in our house there with a 300A service, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to overcome the "SO Factor" any time soon on that.

After spending a week with a Grand Cherokee L in Hawaii, I decided to make one more run at one. Worked it for about a day and a half but stacked up a bunch of incentives including a $2k loyalty and they got me out of the Wrangler lease early and avoided an inspection and disposition fee.

It’s a Limited 4x4 model with only pano roof and tow package as options. Drives really nice and has all of the usually expected features at this price point.

A fond fair well to the Wrangler. Largely trouble free for 3 years. A few recalls that were done at oil change intervals and one bad coolant pump for the battery. Enjoyed it but looking forward to having something a little more luxurious for a while.

1st month down and with the incentives it ended up being close to a 1% lease like the olden days.

    Congrats! Love the color combo.

Looking at the newer X3 M40i's .... I like them, they are similar to the GV70 from Genesis, just a bit faster/quicker, a bit better handling, better exhaust sound and noises, and both of them have some oddball styling choices, particularly in the interior, but the Genesis even more oddball to me.

Found a '21 with 65K miles that might be right up my alley with the X3 M40i. Just need to see if they are willing to give a good price as the car does have a dozen little "cuts" about it, but I think I could live with it.

One example is no HK audio. How much does BMW's base sound system suck?
Another is the service records are good, they have no big holes, but they consistently lackadaisically got services a bit late, from 11.5K to 13K mile intervals. I give that a barely passing C- grade as at least they didn't miss one and the records prove it.

@andres3 - from my experience, the base BMW sound system does kinda suck. My loaded up X5 PHEV was missing it when they were cutting certain options due to chip shortages...the difference in sound quality was very apparent.

I got to drive a 2025 Camry hybrid today. From the cloth seats I assume it was an LE trim and FWD. it was very quiet and had decent power but I wasn’t able to fling it around as much as I might like. Otherwise you couldn’t tell it from the pure gasser version which no longer exists.

My company must be buying every hybrid they can because a good percentage of the cars I moved today were hybrid versions. My guess is they are making a strong play for resale to people who are switching out of EVs but don’t want to go back to gas powered vehicles.

Didn’t you have a Maverick on order, too? Are you planning to take it and flip it?

I’m jealous of a garage with that much space.

May 18th, didn't realize you tracked the day of month.

We take great pride in admiring the punch list that @corvette updates so diligently!

Yes he has done a very good job right from the getgo. However, I think @corvette now has his eyes set on getting a company car. :o

    Ahem.

I'll remind you that I started and maintained the punch list for a few years before I was promoted to moderator, at which point @corvette stepped up to take over the responsibilities.

Having met him in person (at a wonderful dinner hosted by @breld, and also included @tifighter and @jpp75), I can tell you he's diligent about accuracy.

Ten punches in June. That's a solid performance, folks! Of course, @breld had to show us all up again by having 20% of them. :p

I think that indicates the recovery of the auto market and the return to price sanity more than an statistic I can think of.😎

Thanks. I do have a Maverick on order but I will just let it go. Not confident there is enough money left to risk trying to flip.

After not driving the BMW for a over a week due to baseball tournaments and a weekend getaway I finally tended to it after bringing it home with the coolant light on. This is what I find upon closer inspection.

That stick is supposed to be floating.

    @pensfan83 Yikes!

You know, I replaced the whole cooling system, at one point? :/

Yep, and I don't want to do that anytime soon. Took almost a half bottle of coolant to get it squared away and then I took it on a drive to the store. No drips, leaks, or coolant light so here's hoping it's been addressed. I did get a call back from the dealer but they thought I wanted to schedule an appointment for service so they put me through to the SA's mailbox again. That was Friday.

I think I see the problem. Your rad cap is missing. It's understandable since the filler neck only has a single notch to allow the cap to stay in place. Poor design there. :D

I think you’re right. In 2020 my daughter’s car died and they had to get a new one. Talk about at the dealers’s mercy then! Their local Toyota dealer required $1000 deposit just to test drive a RAV4 PHEV! I remember thinking, no one who doesn’t have to get a car is out there now.
Of course the Toyota folks are still hiking their prices as though there was no competition. That’s why my neighbor bought a Hyundai Tucson PHEV a year ago and we got the Kia.
