I neglected to mention, I don’t think there’s a way to disable the Ariya’s CC from slowing down when it deems a curve to be too tight—I’ve checked the settings that might be relevant, and the forums seem to confirm.

For some reason, I thought it was supposed to be faster than the Maverick, but it appears instrumented testing of the powertrain I have puts it on par with the Maverick, which seems correct according to my butt dyno. Of course, the instant torque in the EV makes it feel quicker off the line.

Almost 2,000 miles on it so far!

Sounds like it is just a matter of unplugging or covering a few sensors. Let's see what it makes of THAT! LOL

Yesterday had a chance to drive an Equinox EV with Super Cruise. Super Cruise is a very slick piece of automotive technology. I literally drove several miles on I75, in heavy traffic, without touchinng the steering wheel, the accelerator or the brakes. Super Cruise did it. Even just changed lanes with a touch of the turn signal. The car did it.

A little unnerving at first. But once you get a little confidence in it, it’s a game c;hanger.

Still feel the omission of CarPlay is affecting the sales of the GM EVs. Probabaly would have sat down to work number on the Equinox if it weren’t for the lack of Car Play.

Sales person said there were big inentives on it, but we didn’t get into the weeds on it. Pretty sharp vehicle. White Pearl with a black top. Dual motor set up…AWD. LIked the looks of it more than the Blazer EV.

Test drove a Kia EV6. Just a well executed EV. Drove a GT and a GT-Line. GT was really fast. GT-Line was just fast. I liked both. Probably wouldn’t need the power of the GT, but the GT Line is compelling. Handled well. Rode well. Steered well. Braked well. Really nice Meridian Stereo.

Chevy dealer (Sweeney) was upfront, laid back. No pressure. Said to come back if I wanted to have a long test drive for a day or so.

Kia and Hyundai dealerships were owned by the same guy I had issues with on my long departed but not missed, Cadillac…..Wyler. Not much has changed. Both dealerships were high pressure. The Kia sales person didn’t know the product very well and actually said he was looking for another job during hte test drive. That made me cringe a bit, but it wasn’t surprising.

Asked for numbers. “you buying today?” “If we, will you?” “What do you want your payment to be?”. “To give you numbers we need you to fill out a credit app”!

I declined all of their requests. As I got up to leave, sales guy said he had to let his manager know what happened. I told him that didn’t matter to me. He practically begged me to wait just a few more minutes to confer with his manager. He seemed a bit frantic, so I told him I’d wait 3 more minutes. He ended up bringing me lease numbers (from memory, they were something like $570/mo lease for 36 mos). Have no idea if they were good or bad, but I asked if I could take his lease sheet with me. HE said I wasn’t allowed. So, I just took a picure of it instead with my phone and left.

I did like the EV6. But, every time I go to ANY Wyler dealership, I feel like I have to come home and take a shower.

IS everyone still having issues with this forum? I’ve tried Safari, DuckDuckGo, Firefox, and my posts sometimes post, but it takes a while and I still get the “Gateway timed out” warning from Vanilla. Sometimes they don’t post at all.

Yes, at least I do. Again, doesn't matter what browser or platform, they all behave the same. I think, as with C&C, this one will need a refresh to a new continuation thread, but at least we know what the limits of the platform are!

I never thought I'd enjoy using Level 2 autonomy in a car, but I love the Distronic Plus in the C43. It's extremely helpful on long interstate slogs and it makes stop-and-go traffic much less annoying.

Yeah...and not in a good way! My older sister is friends with his (current) wife. They went to high school together. Thought about enlisting her. But, I don't want to impose on my sister.

pointed out a C7 Vette to my wife today while we were out and suggested that to replace her car. Her only reservation was being too low to get in and out comfortably. Which makes sense. Told her we needed to stop at a dealer and try a few things out for practicality.

At this point, if I do something, I probably need to make sure she is OK actually driving it for real. She certainly should be fine with the truck but she does not seem to be a big fan. So if needs change and she is driving more, needs to have a viable option other than a 3rd car!

I did see another smaller Lexus (IS still?) sedan. Something like that (or an A3 sized alternative) with an AT that she is comfortable driving but will still be fun and reasonably sporty, probably makes a ton more sense. Or a "hot hatch" quasi CUV like a Q3, BMW X1, or some other baby box. Though a coupe could work if it isn't too low.

Actually a GTI tip would fit the bill. Should go look at one of those! even though she hates VWs.

    What else is out there?

Oh, maybe not on the coupe. We apparently are finally due to become grandparents of a human instead of just a canine next spring. So rear doors to accommodate a baby seat would be nice. Also a potential reason the wife might start driving more on her own so needs something she likes driving (which logically would be the current car, but that spoils my fun!)

My wife also wouldn't mind a C7 convertible; she finds the C8 too "transformer-ish" in styling.
How about an Audi S3 or S4, if she wouldn't go for a GTI. Try and fool her...

I'm still in awe of the A7 interior, the beautiful graphics, functionality and response time of the IP/infotainment. The overall style and fit/finish. Well done.
Of course, the center stack does distract from driving, but mostly I use the steering wheel controls.

I have a truck. that should handle all the junk!

Dada, the key is having a 3rd car but we decided not to do that now. So that complicates things.

I actually want to try out an EV. She might be OK with driving one of those! Or a Mini. Pretty much I need to make a list of things that interest me and would be different enough to make it worthwhile to swap out. Then take her around to see them.

Is there anything wrong with your Acura RDX with super-handling awd? When I was given one of those as a loner for a few days when my TLX was in service it seemed like a great ride. Are you just getting the chronic car buyer desire? It does seem amazing to me that our Subaru is newer newer than your cars at this point—but your RDX seems still almost new to me.

You've probably seen this, but the lease deals on the Honda Prologue EV look good. About the same to lease one of those $50k EVs as to lease a $35k Accord.

I mostly want to treat myself to a fun/sporty/sorta a toy car. And without having to add a 3rd car to the fleet. which means it has to replace one of the current cars, and I am fond of having the truck. So the logical move was replace the Acura. No, there is nothing wrong with it and it just turned 25K miles at 4.5 years old. It drives nice for what it is, but certainly isn't a sporty car.

If I wanted to replace my truck, that I could do anything I wanted to. But would want to find a beater truck that I would be OK parking outside. Which used to be easy enough but now, especially up here, they are either absurdly expensive, totally rotted out, or both! I would do a cheapo lease on one but I think they went the way of the Dodo too. Maybe next year once I finish the projects on the new house it won't matter as much and flipping the Maverick for a hard core sports car would make sense (could always add a trailer hitch to the Acura and rent a Uhaul utility trailer if really needed).

EDIT: scrap the tow with the Acura idea. that only has a 1,500 capacity.

The car sales people are calling fast and furious now. Just realized Sept is the end of the quarter. Probably get more intense as the month goes on.

Haven't bought anything. But, sure have test driven quite a few. When I test drove the Equinox EV I was thinking maybe the 2nd "birth" of the Infinium Platform for GM would fare better than the Blazer EV and Lyric has produced. Or, maybe I'm kidding myself because I like the way they look.

GM put some nice paint on these...

ran some plans past the boss. not getting much traction, so might need a few more bottles of wine, and if life ever slows down in the fall a few test sits/drives!

going to be a real tough sell to get her to give up "her" car. Might have to get a baby BMW or a Macan to get that to work, though one of the EV hot rods might have a chance. But if getting another CUV if would have to be something special to cover sports car duty.

And she seems attached to my truck even though she has no interest in driving it since it is practical.

a 3rd car is fine with her (though maybe not quite as fine when I pick hers to park outside!) MIght need a combo platter. Leave the RDX alone, flip the Maverick for a sports car, and lease a Ram when the dealer runs out of space to store them and prices come down! Or a lightning, since they have to be parked outside anyway.

An older work truck would actually make a ton of sense, since it can sit out under the pine trees. Just won't have it for the annual trip to the beach but we can make the Acura work for that. Just very hard to find.

first step, try out the sporty car alternatives to see if any would even work to have as a 3rd car. Maybe I should buy an old Prelude. I hear those are popular!

The GM reliability issue is probably the singular issue that’s kept me from pulling the trigger. No one wants to go through the nightmare of lemon law vehicles. That, and the lack of Apple CarPlay.

    63,000 miles
    5-Speed Manual
    Silver/Black Cloth
    $12K

That’s crackhead pricing. I could justify $7500 if it was in the wrapper and couldn’t live without it.

I agree - too much. I think they are trying to throw it to the wall and see what sticks. It is in PA somewhere close, so if you search marketplace it will pop up.

The mark ups continue. $35k for a Civic. Nuts.

    Ridiculous and sad!

The add-on’s are just plain stupid and grossly over-priced. I would tell them unless they are erased, deal breaker. They use the excuse that they “are already installed on the car”. Hard pass.

When I bought my truck they tried to charge $200 for vin etching because “all our cars have it”. I said I didn’t care what they installed as long as they met my out the door price. Guess what? My truck doesn’t have it.

That add-on sticker looks just like the factory one next to it. That took some work to create.

At least that second sticker is just mop 'n glow and not a "market adjustment".

No, that’s not what I said. I said I refused to pay for it. They claimed it was on all their vehicles but I proved they were lying. Then again, maybe you’re right and they were so afraid of me that they ran out and changed out all the glass.

That makes me think, that sticker said lifetime Nitrogen. How would you confirm that they put Nitrogen in to begin with or that they topped it off every time you visited a dealer? And what if you got a flat out on the road? Would they come out and replace the regular air with Nitrogen for you?

Farmer, that one looks pretty clean for Vermont! I’m sure the frame is nice and rotted though.

I don’t need a whale like that. Would actually prefer a frontier or canyon if going bigger. For a half ton, smaller cab and shorter bed would be the biggest I would go. The 2 door a little storage behind the seats and 6.5’ bed is still a whale but not as big a whale.

Ye 'ole "vin etching". Love the charges for nitrogen in tires.

I'd do a reverse charge to remove the nitrogen as OEM tire makers don't require it. And, would charge the dealer for "marring" the car with etching.

Are people still falling for this?

I think they are but then it could be a selling point if someone objects. I can easily see where a salesman would say, if pushed about it, “Mr. @graphicguy, that stuff is already on the car, therefore we can’t take it off but if you buy today I think I can get my boss to sell that $3,500 package for around $500.” That way you might think you’re getting a hellava deal.

The dealer add-ons strike me as just a springboard for the dealer to start negotiations at a higher asking price.

BTW, I have over 2,000 miles on the Ariya now. Most of my charging has been done at home, where the cost is low to begin with and ultimately hidden in my electric bill, using a level 1 charger. I've taken it on a few day trips which necessitated using DC fast chargers--I don't deliberately swap it out for the Maverick to avoid fast charging. I've paid a total of $134.05 in DC fast charging costs, which compares favorably with what gasoline would have cost in the Maverick or any other similarly sized ICE vehicle.

I’ve been only charging the Blazer at DC Fast chargers as we don’t have Level 2 yet installed at home. With EV America, charges run around $30-35 for a charge to 85%, much less than gas around here, and about 3 times more than home charging will cost. We have a bit over 1200 miles on it.

that sounds like more than gas? maybe my math is off.

if that give you 200 miles of range (spitballing all numbers here of course!) and the gas MPG comparable would be 25, that requires 8 gallon. at $4/gallon, $32, so right in the middle of your range? Of course, different range, MPG and gas prices change the analysis, but I figure that is generous on the range, and conservative on MPG and price for RUG!
