For whatever it's worth, I sold my WRX to Vroom and the process went very smooth. So hopefully the payoff can get cleared up tomorrow and everything will proceed as expected.

Went right past me that you sold that already.

    You aren’t the only one.

Didn’t figure it was anything particularly interesting to anyone…knowing the Integra is due hopefully sometime this summer, I checked the usual buy options and vroom came in with a nice offer a bit more than I paid (but before taxes).

Even with the tax savings on a trade, I figured it was worth taking the high offer to get ahead of it and not be subject to any lowball trade offers when they know I’m buying the Integra either way.

So you paid tax, tags, and fees to drive it for a couple of weeks? How many miles did you even put on it?

that was why I pre-sold my 1st Maverick. Plus I already asked the dealer and knew they were about $8k back of Carvana, and I doubted they were coming up when I was sitting there having to trade 2 months later!

My original plan was to flip my R1S reservation once delivered, mostly because of the lack of charging when travelling. Now, I'll have to reconsider.

I'd rather take my chances with the Tesla charging network vs. the unreliable hodgepodge of DC fast chargers we currently have--often with only 1-2 of them at a single location.

I'm still holding onto my reservation, but doubt that I will pull the trigger. But since I can change my mind on a daily/weekly basis, figured no harm in keeping the reservation.

You're on the early adopter pricing, right? That could work out well...at current pricing like I'll be at since I pulled the trigger on the R1T, don't think there will be any opportunity to flip.

I do still have the original pricing, yes. My original intent when I ordered it was to keep and drive it. When it became clear how much of a screw up CCS was, I figured I'd just flip, especially with that earlier pricing. The rumor is that Rivian is mostly caught up on R1T reservations, and will now focus production on the S. Last communication from them had me at a December-ish delivery. I think today's announcement will help sell more trucks, and retain more reservations.

Tesla network would make it more of a possibility for me certainly.

I actually saw 2 different Rivian PUs driving around this weekend. Odd but interesting looking beasts. That front end is something, but the rest is attractive.

Something tells me Tesla drivers will not be thrilled at all with the network opening up.

To be fair, I wouldn't be.

They're adding something like 4 stations a day YoY, so the pace to keep up is there. Most of my SC usage is on trips to rural eastern WA, eastern OR, ID, MT etc where the concentration is a little lower. Otherwise I charge almost always at home. If you are relying on the SC network to be your main charging source because you live in an apartment in the city, then yes, I'd guess those chargers will be very busy.

I have all of my EZPass units registered through M-DOT. Works everywhere, just like all the other states, but they don't charge me a monthly fee just to have the transponders in my cars. My argument when looking is that if I have to give them the money up front, why should they be charging me a monthly fee on top of that? Only Massachusetts agreed with me on that argument. :D

@akangl That's a heck of a change! Maybe not a *polar* opposite (as that would require a move to, say, southern Argentina or New Zealand), but half-way there, anyway!

If you're thinking you won't move until next summer, something tells me that you will be looking for wheels to satisfy your driving needs until the RV trip!

Seriously, though, once you get back to AK, let me know if you do need something short term. I may be able to let you use my Q7 for that spell to save you the time, money, and effort of a buy.

This talk about chargers got me to thinking that maybe I should consider setting up some sort of charger at the Ohio house. I don't recall seeing much in the way of public infrastructure in my area. I imagine there's probably a "charge share" app or something out there that would allow folks to use that sort of thing, and we just have that place sitting there most of the year with an empty driveway.

I am going to look into upgrading our electric service drop (currently only 100A, which is hilariously insufficient for modern times) when we're down there this year, and something like this could maybe help folks out and net a tiny return, too.

Now on to what we've been up to. Well I'm typing this while sitting in our room at a resort in Costa Rica. We close on our new home in 8 days. We won't be moving in right away because we want to wait until our daughter can move in to our place in Alaska so it doesn't sit vacant, so the house here will be an airbnb until we move next summer. We will do our RV trip before moving. We planned that for this summer but with all the things needed for the house closing it was easier to be in Costa Rica.

Wow, that's really interesting. A few years ago I was visiting an old-car acquaintance and he was on a jag about Costa Rica being the place to move to and at the time seemed to be seriously considering it for himself and family. He had done a lot of research and thought he had it all figured out. He's still here last I heard so maybe that wasn't quite so, but he was certainly fired up about it. He was saying the health care is no worse and maybe better than here, that many things were cheaper, that it was safe as long as you picked the right community, etc etc. It still seemed like a mighty big and scary change, although living in Alaska would be that for me too. Best of luck!

I have a NY EZPass. No monthly charge either. I've had it for a while.
There are a only a little more than a dozen Tesla chargers in the Cleveland area, say 20 mile radius.

PA doesn’t charge a monthly fee for the transponder either. At least I haven’t seen anything like that on my CC which is used to load the cost for using EZ Pass.

Just last month I got hit with a $70 charge for use of EZ Pass. Since I’m now retired (Feb. 2015), and not using the PA Turnpike every day, I can’t remember the last time my CC got hit for EZ Pass use. I have a transponder in each car but I didn’t bother to check which one got hit.

I should ask them if they have a “Senior Citizen Low Use Discount” but I suspect not.

I would not, but I don't think that brands the title so dealers are buying them at auction and throwing them on the lot without most buyers knowing.

Hmm. That's not how they have the wording set up on the site. All of the states in the area note that there are monthly fees if the transponder isn't used over a period of time. Cheapest was $1/mo; PA was the most expensive one at $3/mo. At that price, I would spend more just having the unit than paying the tolls for the two months I'm using them.

good job. sounds like my last experience with Carvana. they lost track on their end and never got back to me about the title, since my situation was out of the ordinary for their SOPs and by the time I tracked them down offer had expired, but after some discussion they agreed it was their goof so they reinstated it. after that it all moved quick. Plus I dropped it off to get it done quicker, and avoid having to pay a pick up fee.

That’s if you want an abused horribly neglected car. I’ve watch a few of those auction videos and those are some rough units. Even the ones that the owner didn’t take a baseball bat to before the bank hauled it away.

What I think will make a big difference is when the rental companies start selling off their old inventory. Our company is just starting to move out the old stuff that they bought during the pandemic. 60k miles was the cutoff point. Those are being sold to make room for a flood of new stuff.

We still have a long way to go though. Currently our location has about 75 cars going to dealers. Per-Covid we had 750.
