I was looking at a couple quotes that I had acquired last fall on the Sonata, and some of my other notes, and here is the pattern that I've noticed.

The higher MSRP (and resulting higher Invoice and Internet prices) on the Fitzmall inventory reflect a later build and slight price increase. For example, some of my figures from last August show a LX Pkg3 with MSRP of 24,895 (includes $600 freight) with an invoice of 23,339. A recent quote shows MSRP of 24,945, a $50 increase, and an invoice of 23,385, a $46 increase. I found where the difference occurred. The Option Pkg 3 had a invoice price of $1,400 last fall. Now that same Option Pkg 3 is listed at $1,450.

The higher MSRP I would assume is a later 'build'.

Also, I have noticed a slight price difference between Fitzmall's White Flint dealership and their Gaithersburg dealership.

Also, I think there's the low cost options, like floor mats which aren't always shown in the listing of equipment and "factory installed options."
  • zen2zen2 Member Posts: 226
??? There are no options for an LX, except the packages.
All the "low cost options" are standard.
  • zen2zen2 Member Posts: 226
Yes, I found it really strange too. While I was waiting
for my oil change, I sat in every type of car Hyundai
sells, and the worst seat, at least for me, was the
manual Sonata GLS seat. If they do put the power seat in
the next Sonata, I might even trade for it. I'd definitely
go to Fitgeralds, or Cochrans, though.
  • billwardbillward Member Posts: 154
I guess, then, that puts the lie to anyone who says the Sonata's aren't selling well... after all, Hyundai wouldn't be raising the price if the car was a :lemon: I'm not buying for a few months yet (I hoped to get an '06 last fall, but I may end up getting one of the first '07s). I'm starting to price them again, and noticed the difference.

BTW, I've gone from 0-all over the place in spotting these puppies; I went on a short trip last week, and saw >5< '06 Sonatas in the 9 total hours I was on the road (no repeats).

Last week I bought a GLS 4-cylinder with option package 4, which comes with the electrochromic rear-view mirror.

So far, so good. The car is amazingly Camry-like -- very refined. The only warranty issue I've discovered is that the top of the dash on the passenger's side squeaks and creaks when the car hits a bump.

The rear-view mirror hardly seems to dim anything at night when switched on. Some of the headlights do have a faint greenish tinge, but others seem to come through white and completely undimmed. Even the lights that are greenish are too bright.

I'll confess I've been too busy to read the owner's manual. Is there an adjustment for this? Is this the way it's supposed to work? If so, I just may have the thing yanked off and replaced by a standard day-night mirror. The homelink and compass are nice, but not worth the pain.

Yesterday, I was looking at two 4-Cylinder Sonanta GSL which were manufactured on Nov 23rd and Dec 1st 2005, respectively. So it has been 3 months. Have they been out on the lot for too long? When were the first redesigned 2006 Sonnatas introduced to the martket? It looks like the dealer can offer a good price for the month end if I can take the car today.
  • johnjjjohnjj Member Posts: 81
What do you mean by "redesigned 2006 Sonatas"? What was changed?
    john
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
2-3 months is not very long. Consider it took awhile for the car to be shipped to the dealer. Be sure to check the paint to make sure there are no flaws which could be caused from birds etc.
  • mjchsfmjchsf Member Posts: 16
Virtually everything. A completely new design for 2006 Sonatas.
  • mjchsfmjchsf Member Posts: 16
Any idea when the 2007 models will be out? I am still a little hesitant to buy a '06 without knowing when '07s will be available considering potential improvements of quality and better resale values.
  • billwardbillward Member Posts: 154
I asked the salesmanager at the local Hyundai, and he said that they should start hearing about the new car in late July-early August, with the new car available end of August-early September. Subject to change, of course. I might be willing to wait a few weeks if there's good reason to for an '07 vice an '06, if it comes to that, but the '06s look to be an awful good buy right now. :)

Both me and my wife don't feel uncomfortable at all. And we are both not tall guys (5'8''). I don't know if you guys have adjusted the back support, that helps me a lot. The only pity thing for me is, I'm not tall enough to have the sunroof right on top of my head

    mjchsf,
The 2006 Sonata was on sale around 6-7/05. I bought mine in 8/05. I thought you were implying it has been redesigned since it's introduction.

Well I finally bought my new Sonata Lx yesterday..it has the sunroof package...and I got it for 22000.00 with the 2 rebates.Don't know if that was a good deal or not, but the salesman said his boss had to pay 23000.00 for the car...and showed me "offical" invoices to back that up...I told him that those numbers meant nothing to me.But everyone who has seen this car,so far, thinks that I got alot of car for that price. It is the Cinnamon Red,which looks sharp with the chrome accents.I love the door handles in chrome accents...the car is peppier than I was exspecting. So far I love this car...but the radio should have more bass with that sub woofer.Of course I had to buy it on the coldest day Connecticut has seen this winter.Hope it warms up,so I can go out side and stare at the beauty of this new car...it is much sharper looking than the Accords..which I was also considering buying. :)

Trust me, spend the extra money and buy the LX version, I promise you won't be dissapointed! Not only does the V6 get up and boogie, you get all the extras and the 17 inch rims and tires make 100% difference in looks!

Trust me, I own an 06 LX Dark Cinnamon, loaded and it's very impressive to say the least!
  • wdlp65wdlp65 Member Posts: 13
I take it you bought the LX then if you got the subwoofer and sunroof. You can adjust the bass level and trust me, put in some good bass music and you will feel it!

Nice color, I have the same exact one, most people think it's black or brown or purple in the shade, but wait til they see it in the sun!

Congrats on the purchase, you will love it!

Here's this weeks Autoweek article on 06 Sonata LX, I think they need to run their 0-60 tests using the shiftronic, the Sonata blows the Mazda6 & Fusion away and in their tests it comes up short~go figure :)
    link title
  • rgyiprgyip Member Posts: 43
Yeah I noticed that too. Although the Mazda 6s probably got tested with manual; there are very few test times for the 6s with automatic. Not sure about the Fusion though. They did say that the Hybrid Accord V6 was a bit slower than the Sonata, which obstensibly, is a faster car than the normal V6 Accord. With that fact in mind, I can see how they got their 0-60 number but the Mazda and Ford must have been tested going downhill. :) Shiftronic shouldn't affect 0-60 times though.

    Hello all,

I seek advice regarding my new 2006 Hyundai Sonata problems.

I bought brand new 2006 Hyundai Sonata LX with sunroof option and paid $22,500 on Dec 2005.
I put on about 3500 miles on the car till today. Till today, I had many problems on the car and had
to visit dealershop and service center. Without counting visit, I had drop the car over 10 days for repair and
now it is still at service center.

    1. After few days of purchasing, I found front bumper is slightly shifted right and mismatched. Of course it is not noticeable 10 meters. But with attention you can notice that front bumper is shifted and doesn't look good. I brought this car to dealershop to fix, but they suggest me to take the car to service center. Since they don't have body shop, I took it to another Hyundai service center and got fixed. So now? It gets being shifted again. A guy at service center recommend me not to touch it that he said they fixed it once and there is no way to fix it.

    2. On second week of purchasing, I found 1 inch crack in passenger rear door sill (body). I took the car to body shop and made it repainted.
It took full three days and I wasn't provided any vehicle. Now it looks okay but has little tough surface.

    3. On my first car wash (touch-free), I found water-leak. Water comes through bottom of speaker near passenger side mirror. I took the car to service center. I was told the issue wasn't duplicable. So I took a mechanic and had car wash to prove it. They resealed right front mirror. But I had water leak again after resealing it. They again resealed. Since the car is still in service center for another reason. I didn't have a chance to test this.

    4. Steering wheel off center to the left 3 times and I don't think it is fixed. When it was examined first time, as soon as I drive it, the wheel gets out of spec.

    5. Last Friday, I found left rear brake lamp went off. To fix this, my car is in service center and I have no idea how long it will take.

    6. After first wheel alignment, I have annoying break sequaling sound when I push a break pedal and often without touching it. They cleaned front brake pads two times. But it isn't fixed yet. Mechanic told me that the sound is normal under high moisture. Even regarding his comment, the sound is huge and obvious. I never heard this kind of noise for 2 years with my first car (Civic).

Dealershop suggest me to contact Hyundai and Hyundai told me contact dealershop. I'm so disappointed. I'm really researching lemon law to replace or refund for that car. How should I do? I don't want to visit service center anymore. This is not I expected for the new car over $20k.

Spoke to the sales manager at Hyundai about the discontinuing of the polar white on the Sonata, and was told that the pearl white color is back into production. I guess initially they had a problem with matching the bumper color with the rest of the body. Has anyone else heard this too? Also am looking at the 4 cyl. automatic GLS, does anybody know if you can get the 17 inch alloys (5 spoke) that the 6 cyl. has? Wondering if you could negotiate them into a deal or something.
  • blnewtoblnewto Member Posts: 146
I believe the 17" alloys are an available option for any GLS package regardless of engine.

After read many reviews about new Camry, i got the feeling of Accord's worst year. People used take Accord for handling and speed. Now, sounds like 2007 Camry will have that Accord's driving dynamics too. For the same price, many people might take Camrys instead of Accords. On the other hand, many people also consider Sonata for $4,000 to $6,000 less than Accord by sacrificing little of refinement. Hyundai's 10 year 100,000 miles warranty is plus too. Hyundai might gives more rebates when Camry starts sell too many. It might be too early too tell, but there is a good chance that Sonata will be a second best seller in the USA by this summer.

Boy...what problems you have,,,where do you live...maybe the transportation to your neck of the woods caused some damage? My is car does not have these problems...course I haven't even owned it for 3 days now...hopefully yours is the exsception to the norm.Good luck getting it all corrected..again...do you live in the United States??? :confuse:

Yes. I live in Austin, TX.

I got my 4-cylinder GLS yesterday. The saleperson told me the speed won't matter for the break in as long as I don't race. However, the owner's manual says for the 1st 1,200 miles, the speed'd better be kept under 55mph, although it also says the engine should be kept between 2000 to 2500 rpm. Of course, it's a pain to drive below 55mph on an interstate with a speed limit of 70mph. Also, I found it's hard to change the engine speed between 2000 to 2500 rpm while keeping the speed below 50mph. What are you guying doing for the break in?
  • snakeweaselsnakeweasel Member Posts: 19,592
Just don't race the engine or do any fast acceleration, keep the speed under 55 MPH or so and vary the engine speed. I would also try to stay off the interstates or any expressways during the break in period. Being on the interstate it is to tempting to go to fast and/or keep the same speed. If your taking a trip thats a couple hundred miles make some extra time and take the rural roads. It will help keep your speed low and vary the speeds, plus the drive alone offers its own rewards.

We broke ours in the following way and are now getting 30MPGhwy and 25city in our 06 GLS V6.
Do this for the first1200-1500 miles~
Don't use cruise control, don't rev past 2500 RPM and if you're going a long distance drop and raise your RPM by 200-300rpms every few minutes. We didn't go over 75MPH but we sure didn't drive 55, We would've gotten killed by an irate trucker on our way to Vegas, lol.

anything new on the deal (supposedly) signed by Hyundai and XM Radio? As many here know a major deal was signed by Hyundai and XM last fall. All Hyundai cars/SUV's were supposed to get XM radio standard starting with the newest redesigned cars which would have been the Sonata at that time followed by Azera, Accent, Santa Fe etc. I am still waiting. No, I do not want to add an aftermarket "add-on" XM receiver/tuner hanging awkwardly from some bracket on the dash, I want it incorporated into the factory radio...so, where are you???
  • delta4delta4 Member Posts: 138
Hyundai signed with Visteon who will supply their XM Satellite Radios.

With the exception of the Sonata (XM radio by Visteon), majority of Hyundai vehicles will have Delphi XM radio. It is probably 07 Model Year.

Thanks Binewto, I am going to purchase a LX on March 7. My wife doesn't like the sun roof so I will forgo the option package. I am moving from Costa Rica to Ringgold, Georgia which is on I75. Thus the merging question about the 4 vs the 6. My wife had a 2002 Sonata with a smaller v6 and she complained about the accelleration as compared to her 96 Altima with a 2.5 four cylinder. So I am going with the 6. I have been eyeballing the VW TDI Jettas but saw some bad reports about them. Still thinking about a Kia Sportage loaded but it comes with a 2.7 V6. I like the 4WD but actually a AWD. My Nissan X-Trail down here is 2WD, AWD, or 4WD done by a selctor on the dash. Can't import it though.
From reading all the post about the Sonata I am sure we will love it. Some people have complained about seat comfort. Worries me a little. I have lower back pain.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
See if you can take a looong test drive, or better yet rent a Sonata this weekend (Hertz et. al. have them) to see if the seat is comfortable.
  • blnewtoblnewto Member Posts: 146
I too, have lower back issues and have put about 4000 miles on our Sonata now, and our last long trip (1600 miles round trip) to Las Vegas was pain free. The lumbar adjuster seems to provide good lower back support (at least in my case). Have fun car-shopping Russell :)
  • johnjjjohnjj Member Posts: 81
The main complaint is with the front passenger seat comfort, or lack of. Try riding in that seat for 1600 miles.

Are you from or near Chicago, IL?? After you see this price, you might consider making the trip even if you're not! It's from Howard Pontiac GMC Hyundai:

    SONATA LX V6
    MSRP: $23,495
    Sale: $19,229
    HMFC Rebate: -$1,000
    V6 Rebate: -$1,000
    Hyundai Loyalty Rebate: -$1,000
    Your Sale Price: $16,229

That is an AMAZING PRICE!!! I don't think they had the V6 rebate when I got mine. I got it by getting a dealer closer to me to match Howard's price at the time. I got mine in August '05 for $22,499 and I thought I got a good deal, but shooooooot...

If anyone is interested in getting a LX V6, jump on this!!
  • kman54kman54 Member Posts: 12
I too live in the Atlanta area and suggest you get the V-6. The extra horses are really needed here moving with traffic. I own the LX V-6 and love the car!! Very responsive engine!
  • billwardbillward Member Posts: 154
Reading the Visteon announcement from a Tuesday, is it me or does it sound like the MP3 capability of the radios in the Sonata will go away when the XM receiver is added? I'm not getting an XM just to lose the MP3 (I know I'll use the MP3 capability; I don't know that I'll subscribe to XM).
  • snakeweaselsnakeweasel Member Posts: 19,592
WOW $19,299??? thats like $1,732 under invoice, thats a great deal. Oh wait thats Howard Pontiac. My experience with them would say "good luck with that price".

I read somewhere that the subwoofer on the Tiburon came with the polarity set backwards. When owners fixed it, they said the got 100000X better bass. Is it possible that the polarity might be backwards on the Sonata's subwoofer?

Well, when I originally called them for a price quote, they gave me a few bucks under MSRP. After I told them I had received an email from them, they transferred me to some internet pricing department or something, confirmed I was really on their email list, and said I could pick the car up at the price without any questions. I was asking about different colors and stuff and it didn't seem like it was one of those prices that are on one specific car in the lot. It seemed legit.
  • cumptrnrdcumptrnrd Member Posts: 53
Why do you say that? What was your experience?
I guess I can't really say much since I didn't actually go in and sit down with them, but on the phone they seemed pretty eager and helpful.
  • acurattleacurattle Member Posts: 35
The satellite radios at Visteon.com do not specify MP3, they have a separate one for that. The units shown are rather plain looking, and don't seem to have an external input jack, either. Might be they will supply a different unit to Hyundai, one that has a jack and 6-CD MP3 disc capabilites. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

If you're in the Chicago area, another dealer to consider is Pugi Hyundai in Downers Grove - a SW suburb. Great prices and great people . . . I bought an Elantra there in December, and will buy a Sonata later this year.
  • snakeweaselsnakeweasel Member Posts: 19,592
When I bought the Elantra I also looked at that dealership. Didn't have the car I was looking for even though they said they did when I called them. Then they tried to sell me something that I didn't want with plenty of add on's.

Also several years earlier another dealership owned by the same company tried to do a bait and switch on me.

I do try to stay away from them now, one of three Hyundai dealers near me I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole.

Just remember that invoice on that car is almost $21K so they are selling it at over $1,700 under invoice before applying the rebates. Do you really expect to get a car for that much under invoice?

All of this put together makes me think that you will never get that car at that price unless there is something wrong with it. But if you want to try go for it, just be very careful about it.

It would be a real shame if adding XM caused MP3 capability to be dropped. I use MP3 CD's every day in my Sonata and would not want to do without. As it is, this is a moot point for me since I already have my Sonata. Because XM was not available when I purchased, I just moved my Roady 2 XM receiver from my old car to the Sonata.

BTW, I purchased my Sonata LX on May 31, 2005 and now have over 26,000 miles on it. I am very happy with my purchase. My only real complaint is the lack of aftermarket oil filters.
  • snakeweaselsnakeweasel Member Posts: 19,592
Thats where I got my Elantra and Accent from, my daughter also bought her Elantra from. I would strongly recommend them.
