Two months is nonsense. Speak to the Parts Department guy, or his counterpart at another Honda shop, about the availability of struts.

How is a new Civic sedan's ride over California freeways? Does it handle expansion joints well or is it a bumpy highway ride unless the road is glass smooth?
Is it better or worse than the current Accord sedan?
  • targettuningtargettuning Member Posts: 1,371
Yeah, round and round it goes...first it is diagnosed as a motor mount and that gets replaced then when the noise either returns soon thereafter or never goes away it gets diagnosed as a right front strut...THAT gets replaced and either the noise does not go away or soon returns THEN we are told that a redesigned motor mount (some are told a 3rd generation redesigned motor mount is coming)will do the trick and all the while my local Honda service department swears to me that there is NO Honda service bulletin that addresses ANY motor mount problem on 2006 Civics or front strut problem for that matter...when, oh when will someone admit that some type of problem exists and give us a fix that everyone who hears this noise can access...something specific...something that isn't hidden or restricted to service personnel. If the damn car is faulty fix it, I am tired of A.)hearing the noise on a new car, B.)no one admitting to a problem in the first place and C.)every dealer trying a different approach to fix it with as far as I can tell poor/no results. If Honda has any idea of what is wrong dealers should be informed that "yes, Honda is aware of the noise and yes, they are working on a fix and yes, we WILL inform you/me when a revised part comes in.. This piecemeal type of repair where each and every dealer tries to make a fix based on a logical guess stinks

Is there a number to call Honda regarding this issue? I really want to find out if they have known this problem or not. I am tired of bringing my car back and forth to the dealer without any results. The more they pop the hood, and eventually it will cause some other problems if they keep poking at things that are not supposed to.

If the needle moves just slightly is just the air conditioning(compressor on and off) and that's perfectly normal.

    fweng,

Write a letter to the address in your Owners Manual or Maintenance Manual.

My wife and and I too have this rattle problem in the front passenger side of the car. Brought it in yesterday and they replaced the engine mount. By the dealer's tone seems like a lot of them have been in for that. It got replaced but drove off with same rattle. It was our first car purchase (newly married, graduated from college). Luckily we got the 7/100,000 service plan in addition to the base warranty. I'm going to bring it in again and mention the discussion boards.

I wonder if anything will get done? :(

I've driven a number of new cars with the "newer-generation" huge dash assemblies, and all to some degree or another, seem to have noises or rattles emanating from the dash area. Really, this isn't too surpirising given the extreme amount of area and plastic used in these large dash assemblies. The true test will be in cold weather since temperature seems to exacerbate the problem.

I just brought my 06 Civic LX AT to dealer for 15,000 miles maintenance yesterday. (It has about 15,500 miles on it now). I had one oil change around 6,900 miles (15% oil life) and another oil change plus tire rotation around 12,300 miles (30% oil life). Usually I thought the car will need 15,000 miles tune up (such as air filter etc) even though my oil life is still 70% since last oil change. But when I picked up the car, the dealer told me to come back for maintenance when the oil life goes down around 15% and it is not necessary to do 15,000 mile maintenance. I am just wondering if other people agree with this.

Once again...this noise does NOT come from the interior of the car. I strongly believe it is not in the dash proper and the only reason the glovebox is referenced at all is because the noise emanates from an area on an imaginary line that passes through the glovebox to what I believe is the right front suspension or as some think a right rear motor mount. It isn't a plastic on plastic creak...groan...click...squeak..etc!! It IS a metal on metal type noise and I try to explain it as if an empty aluminum beer (or soft drink if you are a tea totaler)can is placed upright and then crushed as if you were compressing it for recycling. A "crump"!!!

Mine just started Friday and it sounds like something is rolling whenever I make a really sharp turn or hit a speed bump.

    Read your Owner's Manual.

Do what it says for maintenance.

Hey! That's how we're recruiting new members these days, infiltrating all the vehicles manuals! ;)
  • mrfree00mrfree00 Member Posts: 8
On the link you gave me plus other maintenance schedule online I searched, it all seems that it is necessary to do 15,000 miles maintenance. On 06 civic manual, it didn't mention much about 15,000 miles maintenance except that if you are driving in the dusty urban city then air filter needs to be changed. Other than that, maintenance for this newly designed civic should follow the new computer maintenance minder system. Since my oil life is still 70% left and no symbol has been displayed, so dealer didn't think it was necessary to do 15,000 miles maintenance. It just seems that maintenance interval for these newer cars is much longer than older version.

I agree. I just bought mine a month ago. It started from day ONE. It comes from glove box direction but it sounds as is something is loose in that direction. I brought car to dealer and they say that it is known problem and Honda is working on that one. I, however, was not advised on what kind of problem I am looking at. Other than that I enjoy vehicle so far. Any other similar experiences?

I purchased my 06 Civic Sedan new in March. At 3,500 miles it had developed a metal/metal rattle when traveling over certain road conditions. It was intermittent and very difficult to replicate for the dealer. Regardless, I took the car in and a tech took a test drive with me. Though he did not hear the noise he stated that Honda has issued a service advisory for this problem (this was in June). He took me into the shop and showed me the screen that stated "cust may diagnose symptoms as... RH shock rattle, etc." It stated the problem was widespread and due to a faulty motor mount.

They replaced the motor mount. They kept the car for a week but Honda paid for me a rental care during the repair. When I got the car back the noise was gone.

About a month later, very slowly, the noise began to come back. I waited until a couple of weeks ago before I took the car back in again. The same tech rode with me again, but still could not clearly make out the noise. They called Honda's techline on the issue and Honda advised them that a redesigned mount was being produced and should be available Oct. 24. I am supposed to bring the car back in after that to have it replaced with the redesign.

I have also found that the problem is very situational. Early in the morning when the air is dense the noise is minimal. It increases as the outside temperature begins to warm up. Also, the more people in the car the less evident the noise is. It appears that weight is a big factor in the noise, which is why it has been difficult for me to reproduce the problem at the dealer... 7:30 AM with 2 people in the car.

Regardless, there is information available to Honda dealers regarding this problem (though I don't think it is an actual TSB). I have seen the info on their computers describing this exact problem and what the cause/remedy is for it. According the Honda's techline, when the dealer called, the new motor mount should be available 10/24.
  • fwengfweng Member Posts: 7
Thanks for this very nice explanation. That's exacatly what I am expericing now. They already replaced the motor mount but the noise is still there but less obvious if someone is seating along with me. Or early in the morning when the weather is cold. But they advised me it is a right front struct problem and schedule me to replace it Monday. What a shame that Honda is not advising the owner of the car for this problem.

Just picked up a 2007 EX AT Sedan about 2 hours ago. Didn't test drive it and only drove it home. Some questions:

    1) When you lock or unlock the doors, is there suppose to be an audible beep?

    2) Unleaded regular is okay right?

    3) How do you reset the trip odometer? Also, does it have a trip computer to calculate the gas mileage?

    4) Can you lower the seats or just up-down and recline?

    5) They tried to sell me Lojack but with engine immobilizer, Lojack unnecessary right?

    6) Is there a holder for sunglasses?

    7) Anyone else find that their iPod via the Aux jack is very low and you have to boost the volume up?

    8) I'm suppose to get free XM for 3 months. Dealer didn't do anything special as far as activating the trial account. I figured they'd give me a subscription which I would have to pay after the third month unless I canceled.

Is there anything worth listening to on XM? I will probably listen to a lot of Howard Stern via the iPod.
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
Wow. Is this a real post? Buying a car without test driving and not knowing very basic info on the car. The sales person should have demoed most of those things at delivery.
Howard Stern is not on XM.
This is probably a fake post.
  • wco81wco81 Member Posts: 594
    No it's a 2007 Civic EX AT.

I just wanted good reliable transportation. Had been considering a luxury sports sedan like the BMW 3 series or Lexus IS but decided it wasn't worth it. Cared more about gas mileage and saving some cash.

Been pricing for awhile so I went in mostly to get a price or rather make an offer and they accepted. So I bought it.

Howard Stern is on Sirius. And my iPod Nano.

The post is very real so how about some answers? I don't want to RTFM. ;)
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I agree, the salesperson should have went over the car with you.

    But here's your answers:
1: When you press the lock button once the doors will lock, press it again and there will be a beep to confirm that.

2: Yes unleaded is good, premium won't add any perfomance or benfits.

3: No trip computer. to reset the odometer, press the button that says SEL under the vent left of the steering wheel. Once you're on the trip odo that you want press and hold the same button again until reset.

4: There is a big lever on the left of the seat that you pump up or down to raise or lower the seat.

5: We don't have Lojack in Canada so don't know what it is. Immobilizer prevents your car from being hotwired and stolen.

    6: No sunglasses holder

7/8: Not sure about the Ipod, havent tried one. Not sure about XM radio either. Ask your dealer for details or to sign you up. Or better yet go there and ask them to go over the car with you so you know all the functions and controls.

    OK thanks.

I rushed out so it's not the salesman's fault. Had to get to somewhere.

Now, is anyone doing anything with seat covers?

I know that there's a problem with side air bags in some cars. I notice in the wide A-pillars, there are suppose to be air bags. Are those the side head curtain airbags?

So there may be side airbags to cover your lower torso so it doesn't go into the doors?
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
The curtain air bags drop out of the pillars, and cover the side windows. The side airbags are built into the seats, and protect your torso in case of a side impact.

  • wco81wco81 Member Posts: 594
    Thanks, that's what I figured.

Do the airbags in the seats deploy out of the sides of the bucket seats?

I'm wondering if something like this would work:

    http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Sheepskin-Wraps-Bucket-Seatcover/dp/B000E3EXU6/sr=- 1-22/qid=1160971385/ref=sr_1_22/102-3874647-2452903?ie=UTF8&s=automotive

(Sorry about the long URL, may have to cut and paste rather than just click.)

They do have a disclaimer about not using on seats with airbags but I'm wondering if that's just a general disclaimer for all car seat covers or even this one would interfere with the deployment.

Um, pardon me for butting in, but not reading the manual is one of the dumbest things you can do. There's really important information in it that you are not going to get otherwise.
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
LOL comparing a Civc sedan to a Bimmer or Lexus about $40K comparied to $15K Get real. Answers is 1y,2y,3 push in the knob ondash,4n,5 if high crime area,6n,7install amp.8usuallally automatic, My question to you, how can anyone stand Howard Stern?

    MidCow
  • wco81wco81 Member Posts: 594
Who said anything about comparing? I was considering a lux sports sedan for a long time. I could afford it but my commute is a bit over a mile so even on a 10k mile/year lease, I wouldn't put enough miles to make it worthwhile.

My question to you is, who are you to question other people's tastes in talk radio? Stern has millions of listeners so if you figure it out, bottle it and try to repeat his success.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
The side airbags deploy out of the side. That's the only way they can deploy. I'd be careful with any kind of seat covers that completely go over the seats. Call Honda cust service and ask them or check the owner's manual.

My Honda Civic LX 2006, was running fine till last month.
    I have done 10000 Miles.
Last month my MPG dropped to 24 MPG from 36 MPG in city, I am very worried and do not know what to do .. Need help from you seniors. Please suggest
  • cmunizcmuniz Member Posts: 604
I would guess that the problem is not with the car but with the way mpg was measured or a change in driving conditions. My LX gets about 28 mpg in a mix of city/hwy daily driving. Sometimes that jumps to about 30 mpg, but it has never been 36 mpg. On long trips I have gotten 38-40 mpg.

I would recommend that you take several more measurements to verify your numbers and then be satisfied with a reading in the high 20's since I feel it is unreasonable to expect 36 mpg by my definition of city driving.
  • sidbsidb Member Posts: 26
Thanks Sir, for replying... I would check once again..

This is probably a really stupid question but whats the difference between the intermittent wipers on the LX and the variable intermittent wipers on the EX?
  • bamacarbamacar Member Posts: 749
It has a short and long delay choice of two settings on the LX. The EX is variable with many settings from a long delay to near continuous.

I passed a new Civic on the way home this evening and it looked darker than the Atomic Blue, but not navy blue. It sure looked sharp! Did Honda come out with a new blue for '07?

I thinking about buying a new 07 LX Civic. What would be a reasonable price?

    Edmunds says: $18,272
    Invoice says: $16,856

In some parts of the country the gas formulation is changed
when the seasons change and the winter gas gets worse MPG.
Is this possible, are you from So Cal?We are being controlled
by big oil companies and they can do what they want with
formulations and prices. Here on the left coast diesel costs
50 cents more than gas and that makes no sense at all.
It takes a fraction of the effort to make diesel than gasoline.

What cable would I use to connect my MP3 player to the audio input jack (under power outlet) & where would I find one? MP3 did not come with a 3.5 mm mini-jack cable[both ends], just the USB compatible cable & ear-phone jack with/3.5 mm mini-jack on one end. THANK YOU !!!
  • dmarcus48dmarcus48 Member Posts: 139
Radio Shack should have the cable, basically you want a male to male 1/8" stereo cable. Maybe even an electronics store like best buy, but I'd go with Radio Shack.

Just reread your post, are you saying that your mp3 player doesn't have a standard headphone jack?

    Dave
  • thierrythierry Member Posts: 16
Yes, Dave, it does have a standard ear/headphone jack. The problem is finding 'male to male' cable that will connect the MP3 output to my Civic LX's input (which was just added as a new option for my '06 LX). I did try Radio Shack first & then Best Buy and finally Circuit City [all on line...to no avail]
    Thanks Again
  • dewaltdakotadewaltdakota Member Posts: 364
Search for 3.5mm male to male stereo audio cables. I know cablestogo.com sells them, in varying lengths and quality levels.

Radio Shack also has them. Search for Recoton ACW-343 and/or Philips 62125 on their website.

Circuit City has a Belkin cable, under part #F8V203-06-APL.

Personally, I have a Belkin retractable stereo cable (part #F3X1773-4.5-BLK), that I originally found on Apple's website, and found elsewhere at a lower price. I can't remember where I bought it from, though.

The Civic is supposed to have a 100,000 mile tuneup interval. Why does a "recommended scheduled maintenance service" card from my dealer list "replace non-platinum spark plugs" at 30, 45, and 60 thousand miles? :confuse:
  • kwk1kwk1 Member Posts: 39
More than likely cause it's from your dealer.
That's how they make money, getting you to do
more maintenance than required, or more often
    than required.
If you want to be sure, check your owner's manual,
it should have a schedule for maintenance.
