I hate when people refer to their rides as "she." Almost as bad as naming their cars.
When I was married, my wife thought it would be cute to name all of the cars. Most of the names were kinda simple/dumb. Lessee...
She called the '68 Dart "Ro-Ro". Her name's Rochelle, and that was one of her nicknames, and she attached it to the Dart. The '67 Catalina became "Cattie" The '57 DeSoto became "Dee-Dee" I had a '69 Bonneville back then, which she named "Bonnie" When we were married, my uncle sold us an '88 LeBaron, which she named "Baron" After we split up, I got a '79 Newport, which she named "Newie"
I never really bothered to name any of my cars, although sometimes I'd call the DeSoto "Big Red". For awhile I briefly dated a red-head, and at the same time, used to help out with the youth group at my church. The kids really didn't like her (she was really clingy and wanted to spend every possible moment with me) and took to calling her "Big Red!" :surprise:
If you can get a mental image of that guy Vince from the ShamWow commercials reading that ad copy, it's quite amusing. Almost sounds like one of those commercials with the "Wait, there's more!" line.
72 chevy truck -- perfect truck to buy to lower your neighbors' real estate values.
86 Ford Diesel -- big, nasty, noisy, smelly and how can you complain about the price? Good deal if you need to haul or tow. I'd love to drive it to a Prius owners' club tour. (perverse I know...sorry).
Badass Ranger Truck -- Danny Devito in a motorcycle jacket?
1988 300ZX--- they have "national shows" for Nissan 300ZXs?
67 E-Type --- junkyard dog I'm afraid. Value? Weigh it.
At least the E-Type engine might be worth something - it's not sitting there with the head off and a rat's nest in one of the cylinders! Actual tape over the carbs!
I suppose if you wanted a "numbers in period" engine block then yeah, it might be worth something but it's only a Jaguar, it's not a Ferrari or Lambo engine. You can source old E-Type engines from a lot of places, and a rebuild is NOT cheap.
My idea of a used engine is one that is out, clean, on a stand, bagged up, with compression readings and oil pressure on tags dangling from the block.
The engine in that car is really just a boat anchor, probably only good for perhaps the oil pan, bits and pieces, or, as I said, if you holed an original block from 1967 and want to build up another.
I can't tell if the E Type is a 2+2 or not. If it is, then it really is quite worthless. If it's an S1 coupe, then it has more value for parts and or some sheet metal (if the metal is any good).
I'm guessing the 350 engine is a Chevy 350, but does anybody know what a "250 transmission" is? My first thought is that it's just a misprint, and it's really a THM350 transmission. Or did GM make a tranny called the THM250?
I like this car, except for those awful fender skirts.

I looked at this at first because I was surprised to see it offered for $4800. I like to think that my 98 328i (with about 1/3 the miles) is worth a LOT more than $4800. (Please don't tell me that it's not and shatter my illusions - I'm not planning on selling it anyhow, so just let me dream.) Jaguars seem to plummet in value more than I think that they (post-Ford) should.
Here's a very clean looking 8-year-old (OK, 9 year old) XK8 with only 60 K miles for about 15 percent of what it cost new.
Miled up modern Jaguars are just parts cars, really. Nobody wants them except for 'throw-away" money. You could run that car into a shop and come out with a bill that's more than what you paid for the car----EASY.
Yes, your 328i is worth more than that, probably about double if it's really nice and miles are low. But if it were a 165K car with some dings and needed repair, well, it would be worth no more than the poor Jaguar I'm afraid. Nobody wants old luxury cars with lots of miles and needing repairs. It's just not a seller's market for this kind of thing.
54 Mercury Sun Valley --- he's asking way too much for it. $10,000 should be plenty.
55 Special Convertible -- neat car and worth saving but he's wrong. Century and Roadmaster are the top money-getters in the '55 convertibles. His price is not unreasonable but there's almost 50% more value in a Roadmaster. No pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, maybe $50,000 for a real restored beauty. Can you get to that from here for $38,500? Don't think so but you have to start somewhere. Worth a look.
37 Nash -- maybe use the body for a rod project? Not worth restoring.
46 Buick 4D sedan -- what are you crazy? Punch out before you go down in flames on this one. Sell the engine, sell the parts, and donate the body to the Turkish teapot company. Seller is already invested at full market value!!
I like the XK8 Jags, at least the way they look. I think for the money, it's one of the nicest looking used convertibles you can buy. I guess reliability is a whole other story.
That's what I imagined too. But then if I'd want a used luxury sporty convertible I'd opt for a SL or a Maserati TC by Chrysler :P (kidding about the TC).
A few years back Lexus invited me to an event where I got to drive several of their vehicles and Lexus was brave enough to have their competition there to drive as well.
I got to drive an XK8, an SL, and an XLR and a Lexus SC all back to back.
The Mercedes by far, was the best of any of them.... The SC still reminds me of Minnie Mouse's car The XLR seemed like a customized Camaro with the roof sawed off. The XK8 wasn't bad, but was indeed dull. Still, it had the longest line waiting to drive it. When the puzzled event rep commented on the fact, I explained that a Jag is the exciting pretty girl that everyone wants to date but no one wants to have to live with.
I've wondered how Lexus got the SC so wrong, coming off the great SC400. The SL is just about the only drop top hardtop to look good, IMHO. The others (VW, Volvo, and escpecially the SC) are lumpy/mis-shapen. California, too!
I know they had a Martini edition 924, but why would anyone want to emulate that? I wonder if the graphics are vinyl or if the guy was goofy enough to paint them on.
I have seen things done to Porsches which so defy rational thought and judgment that on occasion my brain actually was unable to process what my eyes were actually seeing. I have to go lie down and put a cold compress over my forehead.
And in the background, both an Excalibur and a Tempo, paragons of automotive awesomeness.
Speaking of the VW conversions, there was also a 37 Ford kit. When I was a kid someone in my town had a 40 Ford VW conversion, it had an entirely different rear section, and was made up like a woody.
That's hilarious. I should do that with mine! Haha.
I was going to try to make an AWD Pinto out of my '96 Outback, but my wife absolutely refused to let me keep the Outback, so I had to abandon that plan. It would have been pretty fun, though, at least to try it....
