I love the III, the IV is my least favorite of the three.

I like the V and over time the VI, but the latter has kind of a malaise kitsch component that helps.

I can't even conceive of getting one of those. and it's not like I am not the age that is supposed to be wanting one!

I'd rather have a Mustang II

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

I'd never get one either, too big for me. I'd rather have a pristine 77-78 hard loaded Versailles or a 1980-81 Seville Elegante if those were my period domestic lux choices.

I dig it, but $15k is nuts.

I thought it was pretty fair for the condition and if it checks out. The 23k miles could be accurate. Steering wheel (woodgrain at the edges) is usually beat on these with high miles. This one looks good.

It’s not the condition I scoff at but the desirability. You can still get a halfway decent and far more desirable muscle car for $15k. I can’t fathom how even the best mk could be so much.

Collector’s Series and Diamond Jubilee editions can get well in the 30s for very low mileage examples. I get your point, but there is a fair amount of love for these old yachts.

When I feel it’s the right time, one of these or something similar will find its way to my garage. I’ve always loved the big cushy cars and nothing new today will ever come close.

A two door VI in the right trim and colors I can get behind… but the four door ones no. Just get a Town Car at that point.

Me too and I lean toward the Mark III. A 1970 with a big block would be nice.
Since the '69-'71 models only came with a 460 that is nicely covered off. The IV was nice enough but the III had a much higher-quality interior and to my eye looks better on the exterior.

Now that's malaise, on nice wheels. 302 putting out a cool 115 hp and a stalk mounted horn? I can deal with the sedans and the Town Coupe too, as funny period pieces.

Yep! With an 8-track and a premium sound knob too! His didn’t have digital dash though. I believe that was actually a delete option on the Givenchy trim.

Nice, a cassette type that was effectively obsolete when the car was new. CB as well?

Digital dash is something I would like if I had a period car that offered it. MB never had more than a trip computer during the era, I think the Germans weren't so into it, other than I know the Audi UR-Quattro had the option.

    No CB

Yeah if digital was available it’s a must have. Unfortunately it was one of the only options my 89 Town Car didn’t have.

The 04 Marquis had it and it looked just like the 80s.

I think the one on FB Marketplace is nicer. I'm inclined to believe the miles on that one. The one on BAT has some steering wheel wear, was repainted and the sunroof trim and glass is a mess. I think that one has flipped. Center console armrest and the driver's switches look worn too.. not indicative of 36K miles.

IMO that one was repainted, highly detailed and someone spent a few bucks on repro double stripe whitewalls. I can never remember which is which... Caddy and Lincoln had the same tires but the pinstripe whitewall was on the outer edge on one and the inner on the other. Have to assume they put the correct ones on the V

Edit - I looked it up. The Lincoln version on the Mark V on BAT is correct. The Caddy version has the thinner WW near the wheel.

A video on the Mark VI just popped up on my social media and it made me realize.... Pop's Mark VI was not an 81 as I said. It's a 1980. The 81 Givenchy was charcoal grey. HMM.. I always thought it was an 81.

A 2011 BMM 535i for $10k. Original msrp c. $55k. What could go wrong? 100k miles. Seems to be in good condition in and out. No accidents on the carfax, but also not much maintenance history. Surely they at least got oil changes? But apparently not at a place that reports to carfax?

Nice example. I am not a fan of those cast wheels, these cars look best with turbines (at least to me)

I think those cast wheels are the same that were on a Versailles owned by a young relative around 1988. I know I have mentioned that car before, it was hard loaded, and at age 12 I thought it was seriously nice, I am certain that car is why those are a guilty pleasure for me now, specifically the 77-78s. The car I remember had rich interior materials and seemed special - it had leather, moonroof, stereo, etc.
  • tjc78tjc78 Member Posts: 17,103
Yep most of the Versailles had those wheels or wire wheel hubcaps

I could go for something like that if it weren't white. Seems like a decent way to enjoy one of the last decent-looking BMWs without suffering too much risk to the wallet.
