My nephew will be driving up that way in a few weeks, for his second year in his masters program.
My sister took the summer to attend to a few issues on the Jetta - two new tires, and a repair to the heater. I think it has 117k on it.
It might be more pleasant here then - supposed to be in the 90s for much of the holiday weekend, but fall comes up on us fast. By mid September average highs are in the 70s and that will decrease fast.

My first job out of college was in Richland. I interviewed in July when it was about 100 degrees. I casually mentioned to the interviewer that I guessed I could give away my heavy clothes. He fixed my with a gimlet stare and said "keep them". About November I understood why.

To be fair, the diesel particulate filter is neither inexpensive or cheap to replace (unless you do it yourself on the labor side), but, yes, I'd much rather have some assurance it is actually a runner before putting *any* money into it. Does look to be in generally nice condition. And, those tires have excellent grip judging by the slopes in the photos! /facepalm
Wow; it is way out there on LI! I have half a mind to go get it. LOL

I figured it wasn't cheap, but anything that disables the engine needs to be fixed if they want to get any money for this thing.
edit - here's a discussion about them, it sounds like it could be $3k-$4k to replace, IF it needs replacing. Sounds like a built in limit kick in at 150,000 miles but that the counter can be reset, and that it can last much longer.

Brightwaters isn't that far out, near Robert Moses bridge. Nice area and the sellers only listing of anything so might be worth investigating as long as it's very negotiable. The filter is a couple hundred bucks. I don't know about the effort to replace
It's only affecting two discussions on the whole platform
Weirder still.
Discussion size, I guess?
Seems that way.. but, there were a lot of other issues, starting about 8 weeks ago.. the problem has migrated, until this is about the only thing, now.

Only a couple of hundred? The BMW discussion I found had it in the thousands for the part. I see used ones in the hundred, but a new one was $2500. Maybe for this a used one would be the way to go, as long as it could somehow be proved good. First thing I'd try would be to reset the 'clock' on the existing filter's life.

Me, not a diesel fan anyway, but some BMW diesel enthusiast might want to gamble on it.
The 3.5 Diesel has more torque than the 4.8 gas 8 and can get good mileage, but it seems like it's a ticking timebomb past 100k. Same is said of the 4.8 so I stuck with the boring slow 3.0

Yes, exactly. The biggest issue with all modern diesels, in particular, is the EGR recirculation system combined with the turbo intake. The turbo system allows a small amount of oil into the intake, which, when combined with the carbon soot from the exhaust, turns into a greasy muck that cakes the walls of the intake very slowly over the miles, until everything is just so constricted and clogged up that major problems ensue. Remove the EGR and all is well, even with the post-combustion filter (DPF) and catalysts (carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide systems) in place.

I remember the commercial bragging about the swing open rear doors, kid asked the other minivan owner “Why does yours do that?” When the sliding door kept closing, with the van parked on a hill.
I have not seen a gen 1 MPV in ages. or one that nice since I looked at them new. I actually was looking at one of those when I got distracted by a B2300 PU, and somehow ended up with a Nissan PU instead, back in the early 90s.
They came as RWD but you could get AWD I am pretty sure. Oh, and with the 4 banger, could get them with a 5 speed stick for a while. Guess what I was looking at?

Had the old dear out today and I became a bit irked - it rained:
The forecast had a quite small chance of precip, but you how that goes. It really came down after I snapped this pic - first time I have driven the car in rain since 2020 I am pretty sure. And of course an hour later it was like nothing happened. The wipers still work fine anyway and the blades seem ok enough. The car ran perfectly and got some looks and a guy who only spoke Russian or Ukrainian tried to talk to me about it, but the phone translator only helped so much.
For whatever reason this car takes eons to detail once it gets dirty - the paint spots and dirt loves it, the chrome seems to show every spec of dirt, etc, I can give the wagon a quick detail in 15 mins where it seems to take an hour with the fintail. Either I am pickier with the old car or the complex shapes and old material has an impact. At least it's worth it when I am done.
I had a similar experience yesterday. I had just finished cleaning the nooks and crannies on my new to me, 21 VW Arteon that I bought Saturday. I was driving to my parent's house for my weekly Sunday visit and it started to rain. Rain was not in the forecast. Alas.

Those were pretty rare even when new. Can’t be many left. I assume from the shine that it is a repaint. But the interior looks really good so who knows.

Excuse me if I'm being trollish, but would anyone repaint something that color? I mean on purpose?

People lobe to say that these go 200k easy I wonder if it's blown or something simple. Unfortunate because it appears clean
This Buickc wagon could be worth saving I wonder if a wrap place would redo the wood
X5 in need of diesel filter Not worth 5 grand not running but headlights look great
A Team van Probably scary close up
X5 is craazzzy-just needs a filter? HA!
Then do it or cut the price in half
But still, I'd like to grab those headlights for mine

Probably would clean up well enough and is fair for the money - this is a special interest car now, the new generation is here
Nice color combo
Don't see them like this much anymore
Has a fun mean look but also a lot of needs
Neat car but very hopeful price
"NO I will not go down lower sorry" - this thing has been listed off and on for a couple years, read the room Sometimes I sense a certain arrogance among some in some parts of this area who have seen their property values triple in a decade out of pure luck and now think everything they touch is gold.
Interesting tires, I know these have a cult behind them but the needs should be addressed first
Also getting scarce but optimistic ask
Funny ad, probably can't do better for the money today
Really thin on the ground now especially in decent condition
Curbstoner at it again, at least his prices aren't insane
A lot of this kind of material seems to have been stashed away
Has needs but might be ok for the money, some life left in it
Grandma should have had her baby detailed more often, but it's not expensive anyway
I don't know if it's that good of a deal, but another nice color combo
I bet this is fun on the wide open interstate
