I called my dealer and was told they were receiving bad feedback about the 710--they recommended the e815 Motorola (verizon service)

I have posted a question asking for comments about use of the e815---so far no replies;hopefully I will hear about this phone soon because I need to replace my old cell

I suggest you contact your dealer for some feedback, I'm glad I did.

Verizon website lists the Treo 650 as being compatible with Acura.

I've been using Motorola V710 with my Acura TL 2005 and it works quite well.. Recently I changed my phone to another VerizonWireless phone, a XV6600 PDA phone.

I could pair it with the TL OK, however, when a connection is made, the sound does not come through the car speakers. I kept repeating the process of clearing the TL's settings and re-pairing from scratch. After about 50 tries, I only managed to have the sound coming out of the car's speakers.

Does anyone know why? with Motorola 710, it is fine. With this PDA, I couldn't get the sound to come through. What I ended up doing is to use the PDA with my bluetooth headset. This allows me to dial while driving using voice dialing.. However, once the call is connected, I have to wear my bluetooth headset to talk and listen.

Any thoughts? Does any know if Acura has a software upgrade? -Tom

I kept repeating the process of clearing the TL's settings and re-pairing from scratch. After about 50 tries, I only managed to have the sound coming out of the car's speakers ONLY 2 times. Each time, only a single call was good through the TL speakers.. Afterward it would stop working and I have to revert to use my bluetooth headset. (Note, when I was testing, I had my bluetooth headset turned off).

The PDA just doesn't seem to work with the TL audio system. The PDA does work with other cars that have Bluetooth phone support (like the Toyota Prius)..

    Any thoughts?

According to the acura.com owner link there are only 3 compatible Verizon phones: Blackberry 7250 and Motorola v710 and E815.

Samsung i730 and Audiovox XV6600 are "currently testing".

Samsung a970 and PalmOne Treo 650 are "non-compatible".

True, but the 650 from another carrier is listed as working, and people have reported the Verizon 650 works.

I tried it in A Prius and it would not connect completly,so I returned the phone. The system I was told by toyota that works for my vehicle has to be GSM and cingular or T mobile phones are the best choices
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
I would verify the GSM requirement. That makes no intuitive sense as the BT is a standard protocol unrelated to what type of cellular network a particular phone is connected to.

you can make the 6600 work if you get the ROM patch from Audiovox and a bluetooth upgrade. Go to http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=353028#post353028
There's a thread there on all the upgrades and patches available and a lot of other interesting reading

I got my 6600 to work, but its not great. Typically have to do a soft reset when getting back into the car which is a pain. Also, volume of voice through speakers is way out of line with volume of voice command feedback. The feedback (confirming number, etc.) is much louder.

I have just purchased an '05 TL and love the bluetooth (I have a v551). I am wanting to add a phone number with an extension number in the phone book. If you say "pause" between the numbers when adding to the phone book, it will program a pause, but when it dials, the pause is VERY brief and doesn't accomplish anything. Is there a way to dial the number then send the extension without having to verbally add it on after connecting? Thanks. William

Everything paired up fine, works well.
Signal strength does not show correctly.
Took me a while to figure out how to load phone numbers into nav unit without getting veverticalars for the numbers, but one corrected, loaded all contacts at one time.

    Good phone, good experience.

ps. vertical bar issue is that LS nav can't handle () in a phone number. Change region setting to estonia instead of US and contact manager will no longer auto format phone numbers. Will only load one number per contact, so I created a new contact category and put in just name and number for the ones I wanted to upload.

With bluetooth in the TL, does it make a difference what my receiving phone is, and what my calling in phone is?

I have a Treo 650 and was able to pair it fine and the sound comes through the speakers fine as well. Once in a blue I'llget some static, but not always.

I picked up my 2005 Acura TL last week. Here's my experience with the Verizon Treo 650.
Pairing between the Treo and Acura HFL was a breeze, and each time I enter the car the Treo is recognized.
The first call initiated from the Treo does not transfer to the Acura HFL, but subsequent calls are. I have formed the habit of making a 'priming' call to my office each time I get into the car. It takes me less than 10 seconds to make the call, and subsequent calls transfer to HFL.
If the first call was an inbound call, it has always transferred to the HFL.
The volume is adequate, but occasionaly I have to crank up on the volume dial. No one has yet complained of not hearing me well.
Neither the inbound or outbound numbers display on the NAV screen, unless the outgoing call is made from the HFL phonebook or the inbound number is in the phonebook..
Using the TL's phonebook is the best way to initiate frequently called numbers. Up to 50 numbers can be programmed with your own voice, and all relevant information is displayed on the screen when calling any number storeded in the phonebook.

I tried pairing the Treo 650 from Verizon with the RL...and it failed miserably. You need to goto the Acura Owners site online and there is a tool which allows you to specify the Acura vehicle you are driving, the service provider and it will tell you which phones are tested to work using Bluetooth.

Yes, the Treo 650 is approved, but not from Verizon for the RL. The only PDA is for this combination is the Blackberry 7250---which I ultimately changed to and it is a breeze.

Short of it---if you goto the website and get one of the phones listed, it will be a breeze and you will probably get all the functions listed properly (antenna and battery life on the dash) and it will pair without problem.

    Good luck.
  • scalpel1scalpel1 Member Posts: 6
jsmaz thank you. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with the Treo for now. Although the bluetooth functionality is currently limited, I'm kinda getting used to my routine of 'priming' it each time I enter the car. Plus I'm not really bothered about the lack of info display.

I have an Acura RL. I’m not overwhelmed, but more frustrated with some of it. One of the problems is that there is often no way to validate whether something is working correctly or not. Also, there are some situations when you know there is a problem, but you don’t know whether it is in your car or in some upstream system external to the car, i.e., the traffic flow display on the nav system. If the display is wrong, is it a software problem in the car, a transmission problem, a sensor problem, a server problem, etc.

Has anyone tried an LG VX8100 with an Acura? I'm shopping for a Verizon phone for my new TL and the LG is not listed as compatible on acura.com, only the Blackberry and 2 Motorolas.
  • dumontdumont Member Posts: 48
I have the VX8100 and it works fine in the TL. If you get it upgraded at Verizon to firmware V04 you will get the battery and signal strength in the MID (in addition to activating the front buttons on the phone to play MP3's - I bought stereo headphones from Verizon with a built in mic and a button that allows you to answer calls without taking the phone from your pocket. Since the phone takes mini SD cards can have tons of MP3's who needs an ipod - one less thing to carry around).

Thanks, Dumont. I actually went and bought the VX8100 Tuesday night. It was actually free with "new every 2" and a mail-in rebate! Now I have 2 weeks to make sure everything works while I can still return it. I'll post if I have any problems.

bought a 06 Range Rover and was told any bluetooth would work. Got 815 from Verizon as it is their only Bluetooth. Works sometimes. Very frustrating. I am researching other phones (cradled or bluetooth) in order to get a better match. So far, despite the number of phones on Land Rovers published list, I have been unable to locate any phone currently offered by T-Mobile, Verizon or Cingular that is on the list. Let me know if you have had any better success.

Works fine and no problem setting up the phone or car. Only downside is the sound from the car speaker isn't very good.

As the owner's manual says, one cannot dial out easily when the car is in motion. The last number called feature does work while in motion, but to call a number not already loaded into the car one key system one must use the key pad on the phone.

There is an after market kit to allow full phone function through the car Bluetooth screen while the car is in motion.

Can't seem to fix this one:
I got my new TL 05 non navi a few months back and synced by Sony Ericcson T610 without issue. Fido in Canada is my provider by the way.

Within the past few weeks the 'RM' indicator lights up on the console which indicates my phone is roaming yet it doesn't show so on the actual phone and it surely isn't roaming given I'm in the heart of my home town. Very odd. The consequence is that incoming phone numbers aren't displayed on the dash.

How can I get rid of this roaming??? Do you guys think it is my phone or a TL issue.

    thx.

The Bluetooth technology is a global standard but the service providers have modified the phones capabilities in some instances. For example, Verizon is currently involved in a class action lawsuit since they prevent the Bluetooth equipped cell phone from transferring data to other Bluetooth devices. Verizon wants it's subscribers to send the data over their network to generate additional revenue. This is not an across the board issue with all service providers but does affect Verizon users of the V710 and E815.

Another challenge is the software the device utilizes. As we have seen patches have been developed to increase the compatibility of the cell/smartphones with other devices besides Bluetooth headsets... the Treo for example. It is my humble opinion that most companies did not anticipate the widespread integration of Bluetooth into passenger vehicles. They primarily created the software for Bluetooth headsets... not Bluetooth equipped vehicles. What is even funnier is that technology pundits were declaring Bluetooth dead since it's bandwidth is so small in comparison to other wireless technologies!

Lastly, the entire industry is in its infancy. The issues with compatibility will largely be gone in two years but new issues will emerge. I predict the proliferation of portable music devices (iPod, iRiver, etc) will be the next device that consumers will want to connect to their cars. A few years later consumers, after the service providers have removed their restrictions to the Object Push Profile (OPP), will want to link the in-car displays to the internet to surf the web with their all inclusive digital plans. The potential for Bluetooth is only limited to it's bandwidth and range. ;)

I have had great results pairing my Sprint PCS Treo 650 with my Acura RL. The signal strength meter displays on the car screen, but not the battery level. The calls work great, although I too have to sometimes crank the volume in the car also.

I have an 05 RL and want to insert a wait command prior to a password for my voice mail number. The wait command on my phone allows me to hit a key to send the password information once the call is answered by the voicemail system. Is there any way to do this with the phone book on the RL?

I have set up pauses but they don't always work if the number of rings before the system picks up is not the same. I have also set up a separate phone book entry with the password and use the send command to input it, but the system will not let me do this quick enough as it wants to confirm what I have done before it lets me send the password.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, is there any way to use the RL's system to dial a speed dial number on my phone. I have another bluetooth car kit that will let me dial my phone by speed dial locations vs. the actual number. (i.e. I just say, "speed dial 1-2" to dial the number stored in speed dial location number 12 on my phone.)

    Thanks,

    Kris

I just got my T-mobile phone and it works good with the car. People say I sound clear, even better than talking on the phone. But the info screen on the TL only shows the signal of the phone not the battery life. Does anybody else have this issue.

I thought the V710 was purely Verizon. If another carrier offers it, it may not be quite as crippled in terms of transferring phone books, photos, and other files.

Personally, I only use it as a hands-free phone in the M35x. It works very well.

I now have Verizon and the Motorola E815. Nice phone and works with my 05 TL fine. I do hear a POP once each time I dial out and connect. Never heard this with my V600 but other than that minor issue its been great.

My new 06 TL arrived today, and my Vorizon Motorola E815 paired easily. No problems making or receiving calls.
  • fastfredfastfred Member Posts: 31
Were you able to see signal strength, battery level? Were inital incoming call received without a problem?
  • cacdrccacdrc Member Posts: 5
Yes, the display shows the signal strength and battery level, as well as the phone number. I've had no problems receiving calls or calling out - works flawlessly everytime - I've made about a dozen calls, and received about the same. (Just got my new 06 TL Tuesday). I leave my bluetooth on on my phone, so when I get in the car it automatically and immediately is available. Then when I leave the car, calls automatically come through my phone. Voice command works great with no problems understanding me, and the steering wheel controls are easy to use - even backlighted at night.

just got the "latest and greatest" Samsung phone from Verizon only to find out it doesn't work with the RL
Is this a Verizon issue or Acura?
  • tljotljo Member Posts: 5
    I too have the E815.
Have you gotten the phone book to work thru the car?
I didn't get the phone book transferred until after I had paired the phone
and wonder if this is why I am having a problem with it.
    Thanks
  • cacdrccacdrc Member Posts: 5
From everything I have read, Vorizon disabled most of the Bluetooth capabilities, including transferring files. You either have to enter your contacts into Personal Addresses (limited to 50 contacts), or do what I do - speed dial from the phone, press the phone talk button on the steering wheel and say "transfer". The call immediately transfers to the TL handsfree system.

Anyone else find a way to transfer phone books to their TL from the Motorola E815?
  • mbrlmbrl Member Posts: 1
I just picked up a 2005 RL 2 weeks ago and switched my US Cellular service to a Moto v710 at the same. The setup was easy and the phone functions well with the system, but I get complaints regarding my voice quality to a caller while at highway speeds....they say I have "background noise" while I'm speaking...callers sound good on my end.

Works great while parked and sometimes during drive time...but I'm a little disappointed that the Bluetooth/Acura combo isn't a little tighter on the audio out side....I'm trying to figure out if it is a phone thing or a US Cellular problem right now...in the meantime, don't throw away your analog ear bud!
  • mooselookmooselook Member Posts: 68
There's not one Verizon phone on Audi's official list of supported bluetooth phones for the 2006 A4. I believe that the Motorola E815 works, however. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I've been using the V710 with Verizon in my 05 TL for about 5 months and no one has ever complained about my voice quality. I suspect the Bluetooth in the TL and RL are the same, and the RL gives a quieter ride than the TL, so I suspect your voice quality issue may be with US Cellular. Also, it may be more a function of the car's location relative to a tower than a function of the speed of the car, which would explain why it is fine some of the time.
