Sometimes...you have to be willing to travel for good service. It's really sad when you think about it, but that's the nature of the beast!

Two items that the participants in this discussion have not apparently been truthful about!!! First, adapting 07 audio controls to an '06 (from our friend in Florida). Second, installing Xenon headlite bulbs without rewiring.. Both items are not available according to the Hyundai dealership..
I have asked repeatably for specific Brand names, suppliers, model numbers and the blogger making the claim disappears into the sunset... Hope you people enjoy creating non-existing situations.. VJK

    RE: 3696
I can't believe your posting. Either you are ignorant, crude or both. To insinuate that participants in this or other forums lie or deliberately post misinformation is preposterous.
Dealerships NEVER condone the alteration of the original product for liability reasons.
However many aftermarket products are supplied by a vast number of manufacturers to enhance the looks and performance of most vehicles produced today.
While many of us may disagree with the views of other forum members, we attempt to express our disagreement in a much more civilized and friendly manner.

If you "mouse-over" a poster's handle, you can open a window which displays the poster's 10 most recent posts. I've done so for "vjk6666" and (having nothing better to do this afternoon ;) ) I believe I've found answers to at least the "audio controls" questions in the thread(s) concerned, more notably in threads named: "Hyundai Azera Audio System," and "Hyundai Azera Accessories," most specifically from about post #304, which lists a supplier for the audio control, if your dealer doesn't have a clue.

If I looked further, I think I'd find at least the beginnings of a progression of information for any other questions which have already been asked, as well...emphasis: look further...
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
VJK, you obviously don't look back. I responded to your post about xenon bulbs without rewiring. It was my mistake in saying they were xenon bulbs to begin with. They are halogens, but they have some xenon gas in them. At any rate, I only did a swap out of my bulbs. I also posted the bulb type for both low & high beams.

As far as the audio controls...you must be ignorant. There are just too many postings in the correct forums (either Azera Accessories or Azera Stereo).

The dealership can provide you with an '07 steering wheel control, however...it would prove more pocket friendly to visit one of the online sites that have been posted where you can get it for almost half the price a dealer would sell it to you.

Anyone happen to know where I might pick up one or two damaged or salvaged Azera trunk lid tail lights? I want to do some experimenting with the LEDs.

Don't have a spare but I do have a couple LEDs and would like to replace the trunk light. Haven't the slightest idea how to go about it. You've obviously been thinking about it. Keep us posted and tell us about the procedure if you manage to actually replace that light. Thanks. CDM

vjk: Here are some cool web sites that of us use to upgrade our Azzies: seoulfulracing.com dreamka4u.com koreanautoimports.com Check them out...some neat stuff.

(TG or Grandeur is the same car as the Azera)
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
CDM, the LEDs are the easy part. I want to experiment with the reflectors that we have in our stock tail lights. There are 28 in each light unit and I'd need two of the trunk units to salvage enough for the "Azera" strip (if I can make it work). Korean Imports has such a strip but I think it would not look the same as the rest of the rear lighting which is my intention.
  • chilliwackchilliwack Member Posts: 189
You can get the audio switch for 42. dollars shipped from Dream4u outfit (ez install). As allmet said, upgrade to Sylvania H7 and H1 Silverstars are plug and play. Would I lie? ;)
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I think I know what you have in mind...

You want to see if you can add LED's to the AZERA strip across the back between the two tail lights???

You would probably be better served by taking a trip to your local Pep Boys, Auto Zone or looking online for some LED's. Next step...drill holes equidistance apart (big enough for the light to fit into. Insert bulb and seal with a good clear silicone.

You might want to see if you can tap into the brake light wires so that it will work in conjunction with the tail lights as one complete unit.

Not sure if you'll have to get any sort of relays since the tail lights are LED's.
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Allmet33, I did think of your suggestion but it would look just like the Grandeur strip sold by Korean Auto Imports in Arizona. The picture looks too much different than the stock tail lights. That doesn't appeal to me. I am not sure if I would use an illuminated Azera strip as a brake light or running lights. Probably the latter, since we already have a high mount brake light. In any event, any new lights have to match the existing ones or I will forget the project.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I agree with you on not allowing the stip to light up with the brakes. However...by installing the LED's it's not going to look exactly like the tail lights unless you can find a way to make the inside of the back piece reflective. At best...it'll merely light up.

As far as the LED's matching...they'll pretty much match as long as you find some nice bright LED's, try this website and maybe your project will be little easier.

    Super Bright LED's

At any rate...good luck with the project.
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Thanks for the URL of the LED lamps. I didn't know about that one.
As far as the Azera lights are concerned, I don't want the rear end to look like it was hit by an Auto Zone or Pep Boys store. I realize many LEDs could be made to work but if it isn't going to look like a factory lamp, I won't try. Thus the reason for my looking to salvage some trunk lamp units; the reflectors molded into the factory plastic are the distinctive feature. Without that, you have a Rube Goldberg looking arrangement.

    RE:3710
In my opinion, don't overdo it.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
No problem, always glad to help.

I understand your concern, that's why I'm not sure if it'll work completely as the Azera strip doesn't have the same refective qualities that the tail lights do.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Thanks Allmet and Florida Bob. I'll just sit and wait for someone's bad luck to provide some donor parts. Nothing will be done until I have the junked parts. Then maybe it would look overdone anyway at which time I will forget the whole idea.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
Checked on eBay, but they currently have only headlight assemblies available. Naturally, while looking, I had to go and buy some embroidered Azera floor mats for about $30 and a currently-unprogrammed key fob for $7...

According to Consumer Reports the Azera is:
    *** Recommended
*** One of the 4 most satisfying Large cars (2nd place)
*** One of the 4 most comfortable Family & Large Sedans
*** One of the 5 most Reliable Upscale/large cars (3rd place beating Acura TSX 4th and the TL 5th position) Ahhhhh and beating the Avalon too............
*** 2nd place in the "overall road test score" for Large Sedans

I test drove many cars and stereo quality was up there on my list, and folks, this one kicks a**! BTW..clubs fit easily into trunk for you duffers on the fence. Well made car hard to beat for the money. I can't wait to see the 2008. I am hoping for more goodies. :D

When I first took mine in for the limp home code in Dec 07 (3 days after purchase) my service department more or less had the same story. They said the immobilizer was not actually installed on my new 07. After laughing and calling them idiots, I spoke to the service manager and he got on line with Hyundai service and basically said "whoops, my bad" They asked me to give them a day to learn the process to get me the code and come back in. I also called Hyundai Customer support to report the incident, they were apologetic and said they would also contact the dealership.

I did go back in two days later and they programmed my requested code into it, in seconds. Apologies accepted, I got a free car wash. Apparently, only one other owner (rememeber mine is an 07) had even ever asked about this. I also talked to the sales manager and my salesman, so others might be better informed.

All that said, unless it is close to home, I will probably have it towed under the free roadside protection plan, rather than use the limp home, but at least I now have what I paid for even if I don't use it.

    RE: 3717
After 1 1/2 years of the model being on the market, one would believe that the Service Manager would know the features of the car. How many other Azera's did the dealership deliver in the past?
  • jaymagicjaymagic Member Posts: 309
Don't know about 06's, but I THINK about six or less 07's before mine. This was the same dealer I got my 02 XG 350L from, which was the first XG 350, they sold. Got it just after delievery on a Thurs nite, I had to take in back in the following Saturday, so the sales people could actually see the car and figure out how some of the more technical lux options worked. Despite the lack of great knowledge of the dealership, they have always been easy to deal with, and if I do have a problem or questions, they are willing to check it out and not fight about it (like with the immobilizer). I know from other Hyundai owners that their service department work (when they do know what's wrong lol), has been excellent.

I, like some of you, have a color Azera (Venitian Blue) that is not an available color for the no "H" grill, from Hyundai Korea (mobius). There is an easy workaround. Just got my black grill today, the 4,"chrome" pieces are easily removable, by simple prying from the back, (I used a 1" carpenters chisle, prying each clip a little at a time) and any color paint you need is available from www.paintworld.com. I spray can approx $25. shipped.
    Good Luck

I have spotted some Performance Chips on ebay offering more HP and MPG!

Has anyone tried any of these from 'Horsepower Performance Chips', 'Black Storm', or 'Dynamic Tuning'???

They promise 30-35 more HP, and 2-5 more MPG for a total cost of $11 to $15!!
  • dborthdborth Member Posts: 474
I have not tried them but they do sound intriguing. I would be concerned about after market additions such as these as it relates to future warranty issues. For the most part, Hyundai dealer service departments know little at best about the Azera mechanically so I would suggest you proceed with caution.

    Good luck.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
You are correct dborth, replacing the chip will void your warranty as it affects all engine and drivetrain components once replaced. This information is first-hand from a service manager at the dealership I go to. He said if you want to improve your performance and not void your warranty, stick with things like cold air intake (which is a moot issue with the Azera), switching to a performance exhaust, using performance spark plugs or even using a drop in K&N filter. All of those items will give you a gain of anywhere from 3-6 hp. Combined, you might end up with about a 10 hp increase, without messing up your warranty.
  • hjc1hjc1 Member Posts: 183
WOW do I have a deal for people that think these chip work. I have read several article about these wonder chips...they don't work. If these chips worked as well as they claim don't you think the auto mfg. would put these things in their cars because of cheap improvements. Now for my deal..A pill that converts water to gas :=)
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
I bought those pills, but they gave me gas.

I posted this in the 07 forum"

GLS trim with 3.3L V6 engine (same as in the Sonata), SE trim upgrades and new Limited options.

    More info to follow...

Just went to the dealer here in Denver and they are selling leftover limited 2006 Azera's for $7500 OFF MSRP. That brings the price down quite a bit. The thing I like about the 2006 is the full-size spare.

    Brad
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 3727
I would not make a decision based soley on a full size spare tire.
I don't remember the last time that I actually had to use my spare tire.
The price would be a better decision maker, if you are willing to give up the new features such as lighted side view mirrors and improved audio controls and a one year newer model, which will affect resale value.
  • bsparks294bsparks294 Member Posts: 23
Thanks for the response, Florida. Your points are well taken.
As for the spare tire thing, I just do not like those donuts.
As for the resale thing, I will not be selling until the warranty runs out.
As for the improved audio controls, my wife will not let me listen to the radio while she is in the car--it interrupts her train of speech.
Seems like a lot of car for $22,000. I can barely buy a nice camry or accord for that.
I have never owned a car with more than 165 hp. Would not know how to act in one.

    Have a great evening,

    Brad ;)

    Hey Gamleged,

FYI - Prior to my Azera, I owned a Taurus SHO. In the SHO Forums, our wives were referred to as the AWA (Audible Warning Assistant). We found it covered common issues regarding driving too fast, stereo too loud, are we there yet, can you close the sunroof....

To be fair, there were a few women SHO owners who used the AWA terminology to describe their husbands for much the same reasons.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
Does the wife have a shut-off switch?
As you can tell from these forums, some owners go for upgrades or aftermarket products.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
The sunshade on the rear window of my Azera has developed a loose diagonal crease. This sunshadew has been replaced once before due to malfunction of the lift mechanism.
The dealer has agreed to replace the shade again, under warranty.
Has anyone else experienced any prob;ems with the sunshade?

    RE 3737

No problems with mine so far (knocking on my head). I always put mine up when parked, to reduce the sun glare on the interior. :shades: :shades: I am still trying to get my "limp home" programmed. My 2nd dealer says to call him back this week!
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
"I always put mine up when parked, to reduce the sun glare on the interior."

HMMM?! Hadn't thought of that! I seldom use it, only when I've got the setting Sun in my back window. I do like to wait until there's an expensive car behind me before I put it up, though... ;)
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Are both arms that rise up still tracking correctly??? It would seem that either the screen has become detached or one of the arms is crooked...maybe???

I use mine from time to time and even after a year...it's still fine.

Personally, I love how seemless it operates with reverse on the transmission.
  • tonycdtonycd Member Posts: 223
Do used buyers get the benefit of that 100k warranty? Or to put it another way (I guess), is the warranty transferable? (That is the same thing, right?)
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
I believe that the warranty is transferable once.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 3737
The mechanism is working fine, and apparently there are no adjustments available for either the mechanism, including the folding frame nor the fabric shade, which has appeared to have stretched, causing the floppy crease.
The tech leader at the dealership checked to see if a replacement fabric screen is available. It is not.
Unfortunately changing the unit is a real pain.
The entire rear seat must be removed as well as the rear air bags.
The top trunk interior must be dropped.
The rear shelf and center stop light must be disassembled.
The actual part change only requires a few minutes.
I hope that this is the final repair for this system.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Well...the fact that replacing the unit is a pain shouldn't be your problem at all. I certainly hope the service folks aren't trying to make it seem like it's such a hassle for them. I mean, heaven forbid they have to do a little work! LOL

The end result should simply be a replaced unit that looks and works as it should and a satisfied customer.

    Good luck!!!
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
If I recall correctly, the warranty is not transferrable, but I could be wrong. Best thing to do is contact the finance folks where you bought your car...they can tell you for sure.

However, I do recall that if you sell or trade the car in before the extended warranty kicks in (if you bought that), you can get a refund...I think.

Again, best folks to talk to is the finance folks at your dealership, they should be able to tell you all that for sure.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
"Second and/or subsequent owners have powertrain components coverage under the 5 year / 60,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Excludes coverage for vehicles in commercial use (i.e. taxi, route delivery, delivery service, rental, etc.)."

    http://www.hyundaiusa.com/global/warranty/warranty.aspx

And the Extended Plan (if you bought it)...

"7. TRANSFERABLE - To enhance the resale value of your Hyundai, you (the original purchaser) can transfer the Hyundai Protection Plan to one subsequent purchaser."
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Well...that about sums it up then.

What's confusing is that if you don't have the extended plan, then the 2nd buyer would get 5yrs/60K miles for the powertrain only.

So if you buy the extended warranty and sell the car with it, what would the 2nd buyer end up with???
