I bet a lot of folks wish their 2006 Azera would get stolen just to be able to replace it with an 07 ;)

An 07 is truly the way to go!

    RE 3536
If it were me, I would go for the 07. The mirrors with lights set it off from the 06 and the steering wheel audio controls are superior. As far as resale value, your car would be one year newer. I assume the price you mention is for Ultimate.

Samazera, can you tell me where you bought the chrome pillars for your AZera? It looks like you have 5 pieces per side. Looks great!
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
You keep putting chrome all over your car and it will begin to look like an Escalade ;)
  • samazerasamazera Member Posts: 6
You can order them off of Ebay to get 5 pieces per side the other websites only give you 3 or 4 i thought five was better because it does all the windows

    thanks for the comment

I can't tell where 10 pieces would go. Where are the extra 2 pieces used?
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Thanks for your reply Sam. I really like the appearance of your car.
Bob, from the picture of Sam's car, it looks like there is one piece on the front door, two on the rear door plus a small triangle on the rear door as well and one thin piece parrallel to the rear door opening on the small window behind the door.
    Am I correct Sam?
  • samazerasamazera Member Posts: 6
Yes you are correct i have also replace the front grill i will post when i get a chance
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Sam, I have been watching ebay for the 10 piece chrome pillar set but all I have found is the 6 piece from Korean Auto Imports. That wont hack it. If you happen to see the 10 pieces for sale, please give me a heads up.
I have the grille in my car now and it took me about 1:15 to swap. I also added the Azera hood emblem. I ordered the LED mirrors last week so they will be the next addition.

Where is the photo posted showing the 10 piece pillar set?
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Bob, Sam's car is shown on Car Space photos. I remember finding it but cant tell you how to get there. I guess thats how some of us can post pictures. I dont have the formula yet
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Bob, I found it at www.carspace.com/samazera

One way to easily get to someone's CarSpace page is to click on the person's username to get to their profile. We all have links in the upper left of our profiles to our CarSpace page. :)

As an owner of an 06 Azera, I truly don't wish for mine to get stolen as the changes on the '07 aren't significant enough for me. Besides...I've got a full sized, matching spare tire...not a donut! LOL The steering wheel controls...not an issue for me since I replaced the factory radio anyway. I also like my trip computer's location and color...easy to spot and read since it is a different color than the rest of the gauges. I am sincerely happy with my '06. :P

I was at the grocery store Friday night getting food for Christmas dinner. I was in the parking lot loading the groceries in the trunk when a gentleman came up and said, "That's a nice 760 man!"

    I laughed and said, "It's not a 760, it's a Hyundai!"

His reply..."Get the f@#$ outta here, you're kidding me, right?"

I shook my head laughing as I lowered the trunk lid to point out the "H" in the circle and his eyes got wide. All he said at that point was, "Are you serious? They've really come a long way since my old 87 Excel!"

I shared my 87 Excel experience along with my 02 Sonata experience and he started laughing at himself for thinking that it was a 760 he was looking at. His parting words were, "I'm gonna get me one of those there...that is too sweet!"

    Happy Holidays to all!!!

Look a little closer. So are they... I picked up several screw-off oil filters for the old Sonata at my dealership yesterday. There were 27 brand new Azeras on the lot. I didn't notice any BMWs in the used car section. Must've just been a regional anomaly, huh? ;)
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Maybe you would be one to believe that. Trust me, I know folks are having hard time believing that a Hyundai can look this darn good. For what is being paid for the 5-Series, you can get two Azeras!!! ;)

The only negative comment I heard was an idiot in a Ford Expedition who had cut me off and I tooted my horn and his best come back was, "Get a real car!" I bust out laughing at him which only mad him mad! LOL

Come to the DC/MD/VA area and you'll see so many "prestigious" used (excuse me), previously owned sales shops with lots full of BMW's, Benz's, Jags and Land Rovers that it isn't even funny. You see, here...folks like to buy them, but they don't like to maintain them. First time it has to go in the shop for something they have to pay for...they get rid of it to avoid paying that kind of money out on a repair.

However, you won't see any BMW's on used lots as of model from the past few years since they cover all maintenance on the cars for 4 years. Now folks can actually afford them since they only have to pay the car note. However, let the 4 years or 40K miles end...they'll start filtering onto the previously owned lots again!

I had some bad experiences the trim kits. The aforementioned company took the kit back because I didnt think the parts matched my factory trim. I had to pay the freight both ways. The second outfit was NYC Dashes. That was even worse. They didnt want me to return the kit AND they didnt want to refund my money. I finally forced them into a refund through my credit card company.
I finally bought a matching kit from Woodview Products in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Fine folks to do business with. If you buy a kit, be sure to get a color sample FIRST!

    RE: 3567
Consider that many of the "high end" buyers don't keep their cars for more than a couple of years. A very high percentage of these cars are on 2 to 3 year leases.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I think that's why BWM went to the 4 year maintenance free program, to get more people to hold on to the cars longer. Figure if they only have to pay the car note and not worry about the other stuff, they won't have a reason not to buy!
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Took my Azera in to have the steering wheel replaced as the wood trim on both the top and the bottom of it was chipping and peeling. They took one look and said, "We'll order it and call you when it's in." Two days later, they called me and told me it was in and I set up an appointment to get it installed. Rolled in and about 1.5 hours later, I was back on the road...no muss, no fuss.
  • joe131joe131 Member Posts: 998
What do you think caused the chipping? Anything you did? Or just a crummy wheel?
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
At first I thought it might have been because of my ring, but when I paid attention to how I hold the wheel, the ring wasn't even touching the wheel. On top of that, my wedding ring is on my left hand and the chips were happening on the right hand side of the wheel. I would have to say it was just a defect in the laminate process. I do recall seeing some faint white blemishes initially that didn't wipe away. I didn't worry about it too much considering I have the great warranty backing me up! ;)

However, I just posted this for others to keep an eye out for stuff like that, that's all.
  • joe131joe131 Member Posts: 998
yes, thanks for posting. I blame our chips on wifes diamond ring. Sharp little bugger.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Take it back to the dealer, but don't tell 'em about the ring. I'm sure you can get it replaced!
  • joe131joe131 Member Posts: 998
I'm just guessing about the ring.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Unless she drives with the backs of her hands, it would almost be impossible for the diamonds to be chipping or scratching the laminate. You too may just have a faulty laminate issue.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
My wheel has a few chips also. Thought it might be wife's ring, but now begining to think it may be another cause. I have noticed small chips on both sides of wheel.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Now I truly believe that it's a defect in the laminating process that is used. By all means, press your dealer to replace it, I would also advise sending a complaint to the Hyundai USA website so it can be noted and maybe a TSB will be created on it. I have a feeling that there will be a few steering wheel replacements over the life of my Azera! ;)

    Hmmmmm.....
    Interesting. Very interesting.

"Wood" is starting to chip or delaminate big time. A 1/2" piece is now missing. I will drop by at local dealer to hear what they have to say. It sure seems that wheel will need replacement. I hope that there is no warranty issue with this problem.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
    Bob,

I had the same problem with mine. Took it to the service department and showed them, they said no problem and ordered a new steering wheel. They called me when it was in to set up and appointment to get it replaced. Took them about an hour to do so. It is definitely a warranty covered issue.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 3581
Thanks! Will take to dealer. I'll report results.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
Stopped at local dealer to show them problem with steering wheel chips and delamination on "wood" portion. Service manager contacted local Hyundai rep. who gave him authorization to change wheel under warranty.
They ordered part. I'll report after job is completed.

I drive a car made in 2001 (the car cost twice the amount of the Azera though) and the wood steering wheel doesn't have any chips on it. Sounds like a defect to me.

I just recently bought a Sage Green 2006 Azera Limited with the Ultimate package. I used this forum as a reference as to what others had paid for their Azeras, and got the dealer down to $25,500 plus TTT. Not quite the deal I was hoping for, but it was as low as they would go without me being a previous Hyundai owner. I am really enjoying it so far (only had it about 2 weeks) -- the dreaded suspension clunk has not surfaced yet. The first tankful of gas netted 22.6 MPG in mostly rural driving -- not great but about what I was expecting based on other's experiences here. I've yet to see another one on the road here, and I've gotten many compliments on it from co-workers. I've ordered some Berber floor mats in a darker color to keep the beige Hyundai ones from getting filthy, and I've ordered the '07 audio control based on postings in the Audio section of the forum.

Although this is my first post, I've gotten a lot of good information from the forum already, and hope to contribute in the future. I'm one of those who generally keeps a vehicle for a while, and since this vehicle won't be my daily commuter I'm hoping it will last me into retirement.

If it's not politically incorrect to ask, I've seen a couple of posts refering to the "other" Azera forum. Which one is that?

    Thanks,
    Vern in Georgia

Vern Hope you enjoy your new Azera.. I have not found anyone who knows the appropriate part # for the '07 audio controls. If you have it I would appreciate receiving it,,, Thanks in advance... Your price without owner loyalty and no finance reduction looks in order VJK

Vern, check the driver's side lower "B" pillar tag for your new car's build date. If your car was built on or before July 4, 2006, it may qualify for a revised timing chain autotensioner that solves a noise issue following a prolonged shutdown. (If your car is subject to the described noise, the noise is HARMLESS. It's merely the result of a short 10 second delay until full oil pressure reaches the autotensioner.) The TSB (technical service bulletin) which covers this issue is "06-20-002: 3.3L & 3.8L TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER - PART UPDATE". Check with your dealer if you have any questions. They'll be able to verify whether your car's engine has been built with the revised autotensioner (new part #: 24410-3C300) or whether it's already had the revision installed. If not, they can schedule an appointment to install the revised autotensioner. In the meantime, it is perfectly safe to operate your engine as is.
