It's kinda hard to compare the sales numbers directly as the Avalon has been around for years and the Azera is a brand new model. Based on that alone, Toyota will have the advantage of name recognition to help keep sales up. The Azera however, hasn't benefitted in any way from advertising. I mean...at the beginning of the year, you saw a couple of commercials, then they seemed to disappear and Hyundai started making a huge push on the Sonata. Just recently, the Azera commercials have started popping back up.

I do agree that Hyundai needs to do something about getting their service techs and reps more information pertaining to new models so that consumers aren't left floundering with a problem.

I will say this...a brand spanking new car from the ground up and the only real complaint is a front end clunk! Can you name one manufacturer that built a totally new vehicle and didn't have issues with it in it's first year out?

Here's 1 4 U. After not running the Azera for only 2 weeks, I wake up to a dead battery!!! It seems O.K. now though, after a hotshot and some driving. An issue 2 B brought up at my next service visit!!!

allmet, From my perspective we 2006 Azera owners took something of a chance...if the car turned out to be poorly made, we would suffer when selling; if the Azera catches on, then we bought at the lowest cost portion of the car's life cycle. From my perspective, I think we had great timing, new Azeras will only increase in cost. Time will tell if heavy rebating is needed to move the Azera like other Hyundais.

Many posts talk about a higher service level for Azera buyers, with a Lexus-like approach to service, sales and support for owners. I agree that many of the sales/service people I've encountered do not have the proper approach to a luxury car customer base.

I think it is too huge a leap for Hyundai to make. Short of establishing a separate line of cars, with other dealerships, you won't find it happening. Look at the sales numbers, Hyundai sells a lot more Sonatas, Elantras, etc. than the Azera could hope to achieve. The Azera is a status builder for the line of cars, and a lot of Azera shoppers will likely end up in other Hyundai products if their budget dictate.

This is much like the old American car lines. You might go in to the Chrysler dealer, going to see the 300, but driving out in a Plymouth.

IMO, the best thing Hyundai could do is increase communication with owners from the corporate level and engage their dealers in ways to see the profitability and sales potential of the Azera. It is a huge value. If durability holds out, as early indications seem to show, you will have a loyal following in another category of car sales that didn't really exist in the old XG350 and 300

The best thing Hyundai can do regarding the Azera is to take owner complaints about front suspension clunking seriously - and that shouldn't be relegated to isolated dealership service managers experimenting with Sonata struts as a solution, either.

At the risk of sounding demanding and snobbish, I too was taken aback by the Hyundai service department's lack of "pampering" if you will.

I've been back to the dealer 4 times, minor adjustments and an oil change. The first time I indicated I would need a loaner car. They said they didn't have loaner cars! While I was waiting in the customer lounge, my original salesman happened by. I told him that at the Jaguar service department(I traded in an S Type) they always offered a loaner car. Also, they always washed the car and had paper mats and a steering wheel cover in place when the car was ready. I also mentioned that the Jag service waiting area had tea bags available for those who don't drink coffee.

The next time I called to set up a time the service person greeted me with a "Hi, Mr. Cdmuile. Will you be needing s loaner car?". When I picked up my car after servicing, they also had a white paper floor mat in place! Believe it or not, they also had tea bags in the waiting area. The point of all this is that a dealer, who since day one, has been selling $15,000 cars might need to be reminded that those of us who plop down 30 grand are probably used to far better service. We, the buyer, shouldn't be the reminder.

That said, I couldn't be happier with the service now. I also saw an Azera add on cable's History channel the other day. First one I've seen since the summer olympics.

Wamba2000, I would have to agree with you on all of what you are saying. For some reason, Hyundai is choosing not to shove the Azera down the throat of the American consumer as they are doing with the Sonata & Elantras. Maybe some of that has to do with the issue of fuel economy where the Sonata and Elantra offer decent figures. The Azera on the other hand...well, it's not exactly a gas miser.

Cdmuile...your story just goes to prove that sometimes by opening your mouth, you can make things happen. All to often, I think Hyundai dealers are stuck with the Wal Mart syndrome and figure since they offer value, that customer service has to suffer. If they want more folks to spend $30K for a vehicle, then they need to offer service that goes along with that. I can say with the complaints I've seen about other dealerships, I'm blessed to have access to the one I go to. Those folks make you feel welcome to the point that you don't mind showing up with your vehicle when it's time for service. You're always greeted with a smile and after a couple of visits...you are called by name. I won't even begin to talk about how they always seem to get your car back to you before the promised time as well. Definitely makes the overall experience of owning a Hyundai that much better.

    I have 2006 Azera with ultimate package bought out of state, limp mode was not programed. Went to dealer in S.W. michigan to get limp mode programed. Took TSB paperwork with me and gave them 4 degit code to program and they still didn't know what to do. Have to take it back again. Hyundai needs to teach dealership on programing and options they can present to buyers;

2nd problem I had when I bought this car was I wanted car to lock at 13 mph and unlock when you put it in park. It was locking ok but park unlock was not working.
S.W. Mich Dealer told me that 13mph option only lockes it. If you want to unlokc on park then you need to program it to lock when you take it out of park(only way to do it). They wanted to charge $45 to program it. I called Hyundai support since I wasn't told about this. They called dealership and told me It is not coverd under warrenty and I would have to pay.(I declied to pay) Dealer was nice enough to do it for free. (One point for dealer.)

Now I don't know what they did with programing but my fuel gage is out of wack. Showes little over half when filled full. I konw it was working fine before I took it to dealer since I had it filled twice before. They said they will fix it. Will post results.

Also found one of the brake light bulb (from many tiny lights) burned out, hope they will fix it for free. Will post result.

They don't give out loner since I bought it from different dealership but they do have shuttle service. (1/2 point for dealer)

If you buy a new one then read up on limp mode and lock/unlock option and get it done right before you walk out.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
To be honest, limp mode isn't something that anyone knows about until after you've left the dealer. Not to mention, getting it programmed. You're right, the dealerships do need to be more aware of these things. I mean, a good sales person would see to it that all those things are taken care of as part of the sale (at least that's how I would do it).

The auto lock/unlock feature...mine is set to lock at 15 mph and it unlocks when I turn the car off. I honestly didn't know there were options you could choose from as to when it unlocked, but I actually like it unlocking when I turn the ignition off.

The dealership I go to only offers loaner cars if they need to keep your vehicle for more than a day. However, the dealer I just bought my Azera from politely offers rentals (WTF!!!).

If a brake light burned out this quickly, they should be covering it as LED's aren't supposed to burn out for a long, long time.

Good luck with the fuel gauge!

The only reason that I did not have doors set to auto unlock when ignition is turned off is for wife's safety at night, in mall parking lots. Our area has been plagued with grab and run purse snatching and worse at these lots.
This way she can take a quick look around before unlocking door.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Well...actually, waiting for the ignition to be turned off would be even safer. You have to put the car in park before you can even think about getting the key out of the ignition. So actually, I get to park, gather my things and then I turn the car off and grab the keys as I make my exit with everything in hand.

I wonder, can they set the auto lock function to lock when the car is taken out of Park and put into gear???

Honestly, I don't even know why they auto unlock when you can open the door from the inside even if it's locked (like American cars). Most foreign cars I've had, if the door is locked, you must unlock it before you can open it from the inside. I'd rather just have it auto lock.

    RE 3498
Yes the program can be set to lock doors when taken out of park.
This can screw people up who take their cars to automatic car washes that pull cars thru the equipment.
Unless they have changed the system, I once had a Caddy. that would lock itself in the car wash. After the 1st. time I learned to carry an extra key.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...never thought about that, however...I don't take my car to those type of washes. I either do the quick no touch laser washes when I'm in a hurry or hand wash in my drive way. So...that may still be an option for me.

    Thanks.

I had my car programmed to unlcok as the key leaves the ignition. I like that better than unlocking when the car is put in park, because, I may not get out of the car immediately.

Exactly my sentiment, because there are times you may cut the car off a few minutes before you actually exit the car.

I considered buying an Azera but couldn't wait so I bought an Avalon. After 9 months I tried to get a slow leaking tire fixed which was caused by the Toyota dealership not properly sealing a repaired tire. They tried to fix it but it continued to leak. My wife was "very" sick in the hospital and so I was driving on a flat tire most of the time. After having to cancel one appointment I showed up 15 minutes early for an 8:00 AM appointment. I explained my problem (second time) and told them I had to leave at 9:00 AM. I got a less than enthusiastic response from the service manager so I calmly explained again that I was driving on a flat and I had to be at the hospital. They offered no help so I was "very" upset and let them know it! I went to a tire dealer and got the tire sealed properly in 15 minutes! As soon as my wife was home from the hospital (4 months later) I got rid of the Avalon. The last time I got treated this badly by a car dealer was over 30 years ago. The Avalon was my first and last Toyota.

Quick question: Will a 2-1/4 ton floor jack and 2-1/4 ton jack stands able to lift an Azera with no problem or risks? Should I go for 3 ton instead? Sorry for the noob question.
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
eclaixp - 2 1/4 ton should be more than enough for an Azera as the car has a curb weight of 3629 pounds. With 2 1/4 ton jack and stands, you will still have a very comfortable margin of safety so save the additional dollars and send me a Christmas present :shades:
  • eclaixpeclaixp Member Posts: 46
LOL! Thx cableguy06 for your reply. I got the craftsman 2-1/4 ton floor jack and stands from sears for $24.xx.
  • mahoutmahout Member Posts: 1
    Please note:
NEVER DEPEND ON A HYDRAULIC JACK TO SUPPORT A CAR !!!
A 2.25 ton jack (4500lb) should safely hold up a 3629 lb load but they aren't infallible. Always put a jackstand or other rigid stand under the car after you lift the car. ALWAYS !!!
The jacks go in the places indicated by your owner's manual or under the tow rings. But do not forget to use them. Or taking them out before dropping the hydraulic jack. cheers.

    RE 3507
    Good advise!
I have heard horror stories about hydraulic jacks failing and crushing persons under the vehicle.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
One thing I've always done when jacking a car up is to put either the spare tire underneath close to where the jack is lifting the vehicle so if the jack should fail, at least it won't go all the way to the ground. However, jack stands are definitely the way to go.
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
I would strongly suggest a jack stand as well...especially if you aren't getting along well with your spouse ;)

    RE: 3510
Or you could use her instead of a jack stand.

I would like to receive the 10 digit product code for the 07 Azera Audio control which I want to install in my '06. The parts person at my dealership needs this code in order to secure the controls for me!!!??? Can anyone help Thanks
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE 3513
Part number is 96700-3L01 plus trim number, which is located on pillar inside drivers door.
Dealer may have to get part from LA parts distribution center.
I ordered my switch from Haddad Hyundai, Lenox, MA. 413-445-4535
Cost was about $60.00 delivered. It took about 1 week.
Local dealer wanted over $100.00 plus tax
  • plwilliamsplwilliams Member Posts: 96
$60 is a great price. I have one on order from my dealer for $68 plus tax. But, he called this morning and told me that they are out of stock in LA
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE 3515
I received my part about 2 weeks ago. My interior trim color is beige. As LA is a major distribution center, I'm sure that they get shipments very often.
Just remember, the switch does not give you too many extra functions presently. It only scans up and down. I wish I could get it to select presets, as I listen to several radio stations.
Hopefully, someone will figure out how we can get all of the 07's features. I haven't given up yet.
  • plwilliamsplwilliams Member Posts: 96
Thanks for the heads up on the functions. It would be very nice if it scanned the presets, but in the past I've found that I was more likely to use the feature if I was traveling and looking for local stations (seek?).

BTW, my order is for the grey, I'm not sure what the status is on other colors.

I have 2006 Azera Limited with $2500 package. (as of 12/04/2006)

I have wma in the cd mixed with mp3 stuff. But, the player skips wma and goes to mp3. I am not able to play wma.

Can someone guide me how I can play wma files?

    Thank you.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
If you have Windows Media Player 9 or above, you can convert your WMA files to MP3 format and then they'll play. Other than that, you'll have to replace the radio with a unit that will play both. I'm getting ready to put one in that plays MP3, WMA as well as AAC files.

    Good luck!

Does anyone know if there are any components located behind the small vertical panel located directly behind the front ash tray in the small area under the dash overhang?
I would like to install a cigarette lighted receptacle in the center of that vertical, to plug in my Ipod connector.
It would look nicer to not have the ash tray door open.
My fear is that there is some computer or a/c controller mounted in that area. I have been unable to get this information from local dealer.
  • rk2469rk2469 Member Posts: 30
In the manual, it states that it will play MP3/WMA/ACC files.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Really? What software are you using to burn your discs?
  • rk2469rk2469 Member Posts: 30
I am using Nero 7 and Windows Media Player.

I am starting to convert all wma to mp3. :-(
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I've used both as well and never had any problems. As a matter of fact, I have an aftermarket Kenwood radio in my Xterra that won't play WMA files, but they play in the Azera.

When I rip my CD's into windows media, I rip them into MP3 format. I've downloaded a lot of stuff from online and most of it is MP3 format, but I know there is quite a bit that was WMA as well. I've never had a problem with any of it playing for me in my Azera.

    Good luck!

I have unfortunately acquired a few noticeable nicks in the paint on my powder white pearl (did I say that right?) 2006 Azera. I bought some touch up paint at the dealer's, but when I apply it, it looks like plain flat white paint to me. When I asked the dealer about it, they said that is as good as it gets, or something like that. I tried applying the clear coat after the paint (one on each end of the tube) and it didn't change the appearance at all.
Have any of you had to use touch up paint, and if so, can you tell me the code number or part number on the paint so that I can make sure I have the right kind?
I know that nicks are going to happen, but everytime I wash my car it bugs me.
    Thanks!

    RE: 3525
If the color that you have is correct, here are some application tips.
Make sure that you clean and dewax area.
Shake tube vigorously to assure paint is well mixed.
Apply the paint in very small amounts, letting it dry between coats. Do not attempt to complete in one coat.
Allow paint to dry and apply top coat.
Pearl is a difficult color to touch up.
Main thing to remember is not to over apply each coat.

    RE: 3525
    Christy7-
Unfortunately "Pearl" colored paints are often multi stage paint jobs, and it is the color of the base coat (underneath coat) that actually defines the pearl you see. As an example, I have a blue pearl bicycle and I'm not talking a K-Mart bike here. When I got a nick in the paint, and ordered touch up, I received 2 bottles. One was Black and the other Pearl White. By itself the pearl paint looked white like a pearl. But put it over black and it was a beautiful pearl blue.
Often times on a candy apple red show car the candy apple red is painted over a gold base coat.
I suspect the Azera Pearl White has a gold or someother color you wouldn't even imagine as the base coat. Unfortunately, without knowing & having that base coat, it will be very difficult to match. Even with the base coat it will still be a challenge.

You may want to look up a company called scratch doctor. A friend of mine used them through his Lexus dealership and the results were amazing. They claim it's a propritary process that does NOT involve paint. I think it's a franchise kind of thing, but if they'll guarantee results, it may be worth a look.

    Best Of Luck!
  • cableguy06cableguy06 Member Posts: 299
Christy, I have the same color and bought the paint stick after a rock landed on my hood and put a 1/2" scratch on it. There are two color codes for our paint. A 2006 code and a 2007 code. I think the 06 code is N2...can't recall the 07 code but the paint sticks are identical.

In short, the paint stick sucks! It does not blend well and I never liked the results enough to even get to the clear coat tip.

I am just leaving it alone for now but as you stated, when I wash my car, it's just aggravating.
  • cdmuilecdmuile Member Posts: 152
I agree completely. No one should waste their money on the paint stick. I put a scratch on the hood when mounting the hood ornament on my beige Azzie. I've tried (from scratch) no pun intended! three times to repair the 1 inch blem. It still looks terrible. Maybe I can find a "Scratch Doctor". I'll look. After looking at the beige color very, very carefully, I can see that it much more than tan. Seems to be somewhat metallic. By the way, the paint stick was about $15. Outrageous!
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
A little off the subject but to cdmuile, how do you like the hood ornament? I have seen only frontal pictures of it from the Korean Auto Show. I have the ornament but not sure yet if I want to mount it. I see that there is a removable cover underneath the hood that will allow access to the mounting bolt and nut.
  • cdmuilecdmuile Member Posts: 152
    Grayfox,
I like it. I traded a Jaguar S Type so i'm used to following a Leaper on the hood. The Azzie ornament is nicely proportioned, tamper proof, and really well made(as in heavily chromed). The access panel under the hood makes mounting it a cinch. If I were to do it again, I would drill a pilot hole from the underside first......come to think of it, if I had drilled the whole mounting hole from the underside, I wouldn't have the damn scratch!

anyone experience a bit of squealing in the early morning when it is cold (30F)? Also, when i start the car, the engine revs pretty fast when cold.

cdmuile, check posts 270 thru 274 under Hyundai Accessories.
I DUN IT!!! Drilled both holes after meticulous measuring and it came out looking like a factory job.

)) "anyone experience a bit of squealing in the early morning when it is cold (30F)? Also, when i start the car, the engine revs pretty fast when cold." ((

No cause for alarm - the ECM (computer) forces a fast idle speed on cold startup. Usually spikes at or near 1,700 RPM, then soon settles back to ~1,200 RPM for a bit before stabilizing around 750 RPM. How soon depends on how cold it is where the car is parked. At freezing temperatures, let the motor idle for a minute to get the oil circulating, then just drive off gently to aid warm-up. Once the temperature gauge needle comes off the "cold" peg, drive normally - subject to road conditions. The very worst way to bring a cold engine up to temperature is to let it idle until the temperature gauge needle stabilizes at normal running temperature. (Lotsa fuel dilution in the motor oil when that's done - which in turn leads to accelerated engine wear and sludge buildup. Bad, bad, bad!)

Living in SoCal, I have no idea why your brakes squeal initially at freezing temperatures. Maybe a fellow snowbird will weigh in on the question. I suspect it's nothing to worry about, though - perhaps a function of harder pad material chosen for longer pad life?

I believe that the cold moist air allows a small amount of oxidation to build on the rotors. After a couple of application of brakes it wears off.

I just had my black 2006 Azrua stolen, and after looking once again at other cars in this class and price range, I have decided to get another Azera. The choice is between two fully loaded unlimited cars, both have every option available. I can get the '06 for 25,100 and the '07 for $26,495. Do you think the additional money is worth it for the '07?

    Don
  • plwilliamsplwilliams Member Posts: 96
I would say, if for no other reason, the depreciation difference would be reason enough to go with the `07 for $1400 more. Besides, you would get the new bells and whistles like the improved steering wheel controls and new side mirrors.
  • nj_azeranj_azera Member Posts: 11
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, I would go for the 07 Azera, better instrument gauges, better steering wheel audio controls, better resale value when decide to sell it. I just bought the 2007 azera limited with premium package and I love it...........Good luck
