I do agree that Hyundai needs to do something about getting their service techs and reps more information pertaining to new models so that consumers aren't left floundering with a problem.
I will say this...a brand spanking new car from the ground up and the only real complaint is a front end clunk! Can you name one manufacturer that built a totally new vehicle and didn't have issues with it in it's first year out?
Many posts talk about a higher service level for Azera buyers, with a Lexus-like approach to service, sales and support for owners. I agree that many of the sales/service people I've encountered do not have the proper approach to a luxury car customer base.
I think it is too huge a leap for Hyundai to make. Short of establishing a separate line of cars, with other dealerships, you won't find it happening. Look at the sales numbers, Hyundai sells a lot more Sonatas, Elantras, etc. than the Azera could hope to achieve. The Azera is a status builder for the line of cars, and a lot of Azera shoppers will likely end up in other Hyundai products if their budget dictate.
This is much like the old American car lines. You might go in to the Chrysler dealer, going to see the 300, but driving out in a Plymouth.
IMO, the best thing Hyundai could do is increase communication with owners from the corporate level and engage their dealers in ways to see the profitability and sales potential of the Azera. It is a huge value. If durability holds out, as early indications seem to show, you will have a loyal following in another category of car sales that didn't really exist in the old XG350 and 300
I've been back to the dealer 4 times, minor adjustments and an oil change. The first time I indicated I would need a loaner car. They said they didn't have loaner cars! While I was waiting in the customer lounge, my original salesman happened by. I told him that at the Jaguar service department(I traded in an S Type) they always offered a loaner car. Also, they always washed the car and had paper mats and a steering wheel cover in place when the car was ready. I also mentioned that the Jag service waiting area had tea bags available for those who don't drink coffee.
The next time I called to set up a time the service person greeted me with a "Hi, Mr. Cdmuile. Will you be needing s loaner car?". When I picked up my car after servicing, they also had a white paper floor mat in place! Believe it or not, they also had tea bags in the waiting area. The point of all this is that a dealer, who since day one, has been selling $15,000 cars might need to be reminded that those of us who plop down 30 grand are probably used to far better service. We, the buyer, shouldn't be the reminder.
That said, I couldn't be happier with the service now. I also saw an Azera add on cable's History channel the other day. First one I've seen since the summer olympics.
Cdmuile...your story just goes to prove that sometimes by opening your mouth, you can make things happen. All to often, I think Hyundai dealers are stuck with the Wal Mart syndrome and figure since they offer value, that customer service has to suffer. If they want more folks to spend $30K for a vehicle, then they need to offer service that goes along with that. I can say with the complaints I've seen about other dealerships, I'm blessed to have access to the one I go to. Those folks make you feel welcome to the point that you don't mind showing up with your vehicle when it's time for service. You're always greeted with a smile and after a couple of visits...you are called by name. I won't even begin to talk about how they always seem to get your car back to you before the promised time as well. Definitely makes the overall experience of owning a Hyundai that much better.
2nd problem I had when I bought this car was I wanted car to lock at 13 mph and unlock when you put it in park. It was locking ok but park unlock was not working.
S.W. Mich Dealer told me that 13mph option only lockes it. If you want to unlokc on park then you need to program it to lock when you take it out of park(only way to do it). They wanted to charge $45 to program it. I called Hyundai support since I wasn't told about this. They called dealership and told me It is not coverd under warrenty and I would have to pay.(I declied to pay) Dealer was nice enough to do it for free. (One point for dealer.)
Now I don't know what they did with programing but my fuel gage is out of wack. Showes little over half when filled full. I konw it was working fine before I took it to dealer since I had it filled twice before. They said they will fix it. Will post results.
Also found one of the brake light bulb (from many tiny lights) burned out, hope they will fix it for free. Will post result.
They don't give out loner since I bought it from different dealership but they do have shuttle service. (1/2 point for dealer)
If you buy a new one then read up on limp mode and lock/unlock option and get it done right before you walk out.
The auto lock/unlock feature...mine is set to lock at 15 mph and it unlocks when I turn the car off. I honestly didn't know there were options you could choose from as to when it unlocked, but I actually like it unlocking when I turn the ignition off.
The dealership I go to only offers loaner cars if they need to keep your vehicle for more than a day. However, the dealer I just bought my Azera from politely offers rentals (WTF!!!).
If a brake light burned out this quickly, they should be covering it as LED's aren't supposed to burn out for a long, long time.
Good luck with the fuel gauge!
The only reason that I did not have doors set to auto unlock when ignition is turned off is for wife's safety at night, in mall parking lots. Our area has been plagued with grab and run purse snatching and worse at these lots.
This way she can take a quick look around before unlocking door.
I wonder, can they set the auto lock function to lock when the car is taken out of Park and put into gear???
Honestly, I don't even know why they auto unlock when you can open the door from the inside even if it's locked (like American cars). Most foreign cars I've had, if the door is locked, you must unlock it before you can open it from the inside. I'd rather just have it auto lock.
Yes the program can be set to lock doors when taken out of park.
This can screw people up who take their cars to automatic car washes that pull cars thru the equipment.
Unless they have changed the system, I once had a Caddy. that would lock itself in the car wash. After the 1st. time I learned to carry an extra key.
Thanks.

NEVER DEPEND ON A HYDRAULIC JACK TO SUPPORT A CAR !!!
A 2.25 ton jack (4500lb) should safely hold up a 3629 lb load but they aren't infallible. Always put a jackstand or other rigid stand under the car after you lift the car. ALWAYS !!!
The jacks go in the places indicated by your owner's manual or under the tow rings. But do not forget to use them. Or taking them out before dropping the hydraulic jack. cheers.
Good advise!
I have heard horror stories about hydraulic jacks failing and crushing persons under the vehicle.
Or you could use her instead of a jack stand.
Part number is 96700-3L01 plus trim number, which is located on pillar inside drivers door.
Dealer may have to get part from LA parts distribution center.
I ordered my switch from Haddad Hyundai, Lenox, MA. 413-445-4535
Cost was about $60.00 delivered. It took about 1 week.
Local dealer wanted over $100.00 plus tax
I received my part about 2 weeks ago. My interior trim color is beige. As LA is a major distribution center, I'm sure that they get shipments very often.
Just remember, the switch does not give you too many extra functions presently. It only scans up and down. I wish I could get it to select presets, as I listen to several radio stations.
Hopefully, someone will figure out how we can get all of the 07's features. I haven't given up yet.
BTW, my order is for the grey, I'm not sure what the status is on other colors.
I have wma in the cd mixed with mp3 stuff. But, the player skips wma and goes to mp3. I am not able to play wma.
Can someone guide me how I can play wma files?
Thank you.
Good luck!
I would like to install a cigarette lighted receptacle in the center of that vertical, to plug in my Ipod connector.
It would look nicer to not have the ash tray door open.
My fear is that there is some computer or a/c controller mounted in that area. I have been unable to get this information from local dealer.
I am starting to convert all wma to mp3. :-(
When I rip my CD's into windows media, I rip them into MP3 format. I've downloaded a lot of stuff from online and most of it is MP3 format, but I know there is quite a bit that was WMA as well. I've never had a problem with any of it playing for me in my Azera.
Good luck!
Have any of you had to use touch up paint, and if so, can you tell me the code number or part number on the paint so that I can make sure I have the right kind?
I know that nicks are going to happen, but everytime I wash my car it bugs me.
Thanks!
Christy
If the color that you have is correct, here are some application tips.
Make sure that you clean and dewax area.
Shake tube vigorously to assure paint is well mixed.
Apply the paint in very small amounts, letting it dry between coats. Do not attempt to complete in one coat.
Allow paint to dry and apply top coat.
Pearl is a difficult color to touch up.
Main thing to remember is not to over apply each coat.
Christy7-
Unfortunately "Pearl" colored paints are often multi stage paint jobs, and it is the color of the base coat (underneath coat) that actually defines the pearl you see. As an example, I have a blue pearl bicycle and I'm not talking a K-Mart bike here. When I got a nick in the paint, and ordered touch up, I received 2 bottles. One was Black and the other Pearl White. By itself the pearl paint looked white like a pearl. But put it over black and it was a beautiful pearl blue.
Often times on a candy apple red show car the candy apple red is painted over a gold base coat.
I suspect the Azera Pearl White has a gold or someother color you wouldn't even imagine as the base coat. Unfortunately, without knowing & having that base coat, it will be very difficult to match. Even with the base coat it will still be a challenge.
You may want to look up a company called scratch doctor. A friend of mine used them through his Lexus dealership and the results were amazing. They claim it's a propritary process that does NOT involve paint. I think it's a franchise kind of thing, but if they'll guarantee results, it may be worth a look.
Best Of Luck!
In short, the paint stick sucks! It does not blend well and I never liked the results enough to even get to the clear coat tip.
I am just leaving it alone for now but as you stated, when I wash my car, it's just aggravating.
I like it. I traded a Jaguar S Type so i'm used to following a Leaper on the hood. The Azzie ornament is nicely proportioned, tamper proof, and really well made(as in heavily chromed). The access panel under the hood makes mounting it a cinch. If I were to do it again, I would drill a pilot hole from the underside first......come to think of it, if I had drilled the whole mounting hole from the underside, I wouldn't have the damn scratch!
I DUN IT!!! Drilled both holes after meticulous measuring and it came out looking like a factory job.
No cause for alarm - the ECM (computer) forces a fast idle speed on cold startup. Usually spikes at or near 1,700 RPM, then soon settles back to ~1,200 RPM for a bit before stabilizing around 750 RPM. How soon depends on how cold it is where the car is parked. At freezing temperatures, let the motor idle for a minute to get the oil circulating, then just drive off gently to aid warm-up. Once the temperature gauge needle comes off the "cold" peg, drive normally - subject to road conditions. The very worst way to bring a cold engine up to temperature is to let it idle until the temperature gauge needle stabilizes at normal running temperature. (Lotsa fuel dilution in the motor oil when that's done - which in turn leads to accelerated engine wear and sludge buildup. Bad, bad, bad!)
Living in SoCal, I have no idea why your brakes squeal initially at freezing temperatures. Maybe a fellow snowbird will weigh in on the question. I suspect it's nothing to worry about, though - perhaps a function of harder pad material chosen for longer pad life?
I believe that the cold moist air allows a small amount of oxidation to build on the rotors. After a couple of application of brakes it wears off.
