I dont get the theory behind it. Why is rotation different on front wheel drive vehicles?

Louis, I just put a Sportsmaster on my 2000 longbed. It has the snaps. I also had the same mfg. on my '94 Ram. No problems with snaps detaching. They have redesigned the frame a little better for tighter fit. They're a little difficult to maneauver in the colder weather. No cracks or splits in covers even with 1 ft of snow on them. Bows hold up good. They give lifetime warranty on frame, 3 yr full warranty on cover, yr 4 & 5 are pro-rated on cover. I might be inclined however to purchase from someone local just in case you run into a problem down the road. It took 2 guys about 1hr 20 mins to install the underrail bedliner, bugshield & tonneau cover.

when the 4 door 2500 Silverados will be available.
Someone else here said not until 2001. They are going to sell the 1500's for a year first.

    What gives?
  • rshornsbyrshornsby Member Posts: 200
As of today, according to GM, the 2500 4dr models will be in production during the first quarter of 2000. Of course, you must realize, that the first quarter is 1 Jan 00 til 1 April 00. Knowing GM's past history, it may and again it may not be accurate.

    Have a nice day :)

Had a chance to try out the locking rear end on my two wheel drive 99 silverado. I parked on a icy driveway which was a 30 degree downword slope. The front end of the truck was ten feet from the garage door, so there was no chance at "getting a run at it".

Carefully, I put the truck in reverse and felt the right wheel start to break-loose as I eased on the gas.... Suddenly, (well sort-of) the rear end "LOCKED" and both wheels started to grab at the snow and ice! Man....She just WALKED outta there boys!

It was almost a religious experience.

I have a 99 Silverado, wife drives a 98 Tahoe. I noticed the 99 has 3 leaf springs VS 4 for the 98. But the 99's are much thicker than the 98's. I do not have a micrometer but just looking at it I would guess they are 25-30 % thicker. They look the same width.

I got a chance to see the Avalanche at the Detroit Auto Show. Front end has the bow-tie, but the hood swoops to give it the cat eye look of the GMC. The sheet metal is designed to bulge and give the appearance of fender flares. The lower 1/4 was clad with a plastic fascia. The show vehicle was actually pretty awesome looking, but as with everything, I checked the small print on the GM poster. "*Prototype vehicle shown. Early 2001 production vehicle will vary." Another words, no one will know what the vehicle will look like until it finally comes out in 2001. If it does come out with the options show at the DAS, it just might give Ford and Dodge a good run for their money, if not move in front of them altogether.

Any GM employees or retirees out there? If so,
you can get two coupons for $500 off if used before feb 29. You can also transfer these coupons to anybody. Sooo - I'd appreciate any generous gm employee who would like to send me one of their coupons. email: bwentz@prodigy.net

I noticed a couple of posts above on the locking differencial. Has anyone experienced a clunking as it engages. Used mine the other day on the ice and it clunked two or three times as it evidently engaged. My truck is 2wd 00 Silverado with 1000 mi on it.

Checked with a mechanic at my dealer who says its a common problem with no fix. He has the same thing with his 98 or 99 (can remember).

    Any info would be appreciated.

I have ordered a 2000 Silverado 2500 4 x 4 Short Bed Ext. Cab LT with the 4.10 rear axle (GT5), Trailering Package (Z82), Firm Ride Suspension package (Z85) and a mess of other options (all of them.).

To owners of 2500s with the 4.10 option:

Is your rear axle a Full-Floating Corp 14 Bolt axle (10.5 inch R & P)? All the 2500's I have looked at are carrying the Semi-floating Corp. 14. (9.50 inch R & P) and the 3.73 gears. Was wondering if I was getting the real McCoy, the BIG BOY 14 bolt rear axle.

What is the largest tire being run on an un-lifted 2500 with the trailering and firm ride suspensions? I want to run at least 285's can I do it, and then upgrade to 35 inchers later after a suspension lift has been added.

OKay 2000 Silverado 2500 HD owners with 4.10 lets get this one going!

    Thanks,
    Michael

Well, the American Eagle 146's are on !!!!! I'll have to take a couple of pictures and post'em. Ryanbab, just order it!!!!! You can make payments until this "mystery money" matures and then pay off the loan or refinance to your new amount. I think your just stalling/waining? Maybe the earlier post of you lowering your standards is true and you'll be leaving the Silverado gang to be a Tindra boy. You stall any longer and you'll be ordering the 2001 model...oh, wait, the Avalance will be out then and then you'll stall and want to drive it, see if it has black wheel mouldings and if the leather is supple enough for you behind and.....then by that time the 2002 models will be out and the process repeats itself, over and over. GO ORDER THE TRUCK !!!!! NOW!

Did you take your truck in for those fix's yet - was this for the rough idle? I have 11,700 now on my 99 - 2500 and it still idles that way(not too rough). Are you going to get use to it, ever? I guess I have.

    Steering Shaft Clunk:
    'F' Shaft replacement GM # 26083324
    Special Transfer Case Fluid TSB
    New Fluid GM# 12378508

    HEY::::::
Regarding tire rotation, at which point would you want to have the the tires balanced too, only when they are shaking? or at a certain mileage?

Save your money...long as you can. No need to take offense from hurtful bullies! There will always be a truck that's right for you.
  • bob259bob259 Member Posts: 280
drgrosz, it's common to hear a clunking with the latch lock design GM uses for their limited slip differentials. Nothing to worry about.
  • bob259bob259 Member Posts: 280
Has anyone experienced intermittent stalling for no apparent reason when cold. I've had 4 experiences of this within the last month, two of which got real exciting when I lost both the power steering and brakes.

In both instances it was cold (less than 10 degrees) and the truck had been driven approx. 8-10 miles. In all cases the only common things I can see are the fan switch was on 3 or 4 and the seat heater was on. I tried to duplicate it and can't, but when it happens it can become exciting. Yesterday was while turning and a car was coming down the hill in the opposite lane on ice.... I'm not sure who was more nervous him or me.

The worst part is you have no warning it is going to happen. The only this I did notice last night while trying to duplicate it was some times I saw the RPM drop down below 500 RPM which with the load on the engine may have caused it to stall.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
The lights and driving light on,heater fan on high..defroster and mirror heaters on,radio blaring, both seats on high...and no problem with a stall?

The only power thing that really brings the volts down is the rear defogger when at idle.

    I'd have it looked at

I too saw the Avalanche yesterday. Talkedto the guy doing the presentations on it about what it would look like upon production. He said he spoke with the Chevy brand manager about it and he claimed that the styling would be the same expect for 3 things:

    1) No light bar on top
    2) 17" wheels instead of 18"
    3) rear tow hooks would be recessed instead of sticking out

He also quoted a release in the 1st quarter of 2001.

As usual, we will have to see what actually happens though. But, if it looks at all like the show truck, I'll be the 1st in line to trade my Silverado in!! I also think that the "Mid-Gate" is an option that puts it way ahead of all the other crossovers out there!! Just my opinion though.

Hey man dont rush me. I planned this past summer to order this spring. If it turns out to be a 2001 model oh well i already have my mind set its gonna be a long haul. First week of March is when i am ordering OK? I am getting the final details worked out (tire brand, bedliner, and accessories, and most important the supplier deal papers. Got em yesterday now i need to call friday and wait a few wks for them to send them to me.) Ok its not all about my money sitting in the bank the dealership will hold the truck as long as i want its the little things i want worked out before hand so i dont get screwed later. I like to have things planned and on paper.

I have a '00 Silverado 2500 4x4, ext. cab with factory aluminum wheels and firestone 245x16 10 ply tires. I have now had to replace two tire valve stems. The first had a slow leak and the other blew out while I was pulling my 5th wheel. I was running 80 psi, going 65 mph at 10pm and the outside temp was 45 degrees. I had been running for about 2 hours when the right rear valve stem literally blew out with a 1/4 inch cut on the rubber. I replaced all four valve stems with metal ones so they will hopefully never blow out again. I can live with a slow leak but not a blow out. No one I have talked to has ever heard of a valve stem blowing out. The valve stems that blew were both high pressure rubber stems from the factory. My truck has 4,000 miles. Anyone else heard of this before?

good. but it also sucks. till it's all said and done, i'll have waited almost a year from initial research to actual delivery. it was about this time last year i started doing research and looking for "the right deal". well, i ordered last november and i take delivery the day after tomorrow. and right now is the WORST part of the wait. it's at the dealer right NOW. but it won't be here till friday. oh well...good job on the patience... keep it up.

i have a 2000 2500 ext cab with 4.10 and i believe it is the big boy axle. Also, I put 265s on it and when you turn the wheel, they almost rub some plastic piece inside the fenderwell. I was going to put 285s but the tire place said they would rub, which they would.

We know that you ordered 11/99 got it 1/00 , you have posted it on every site concerning Silverado. I have a question, how many more have gotten their pickups thru your dealer???? Enough is enough. Go have another Jack Daniels.

I had the same problem this mourning.I have 00 Silverado LT 1500 4x4 (Z71)short box, I went out to warm the truck up -11 degrees this mourning,Let it run for 20 min then left for work had driver side seat on high, Floor/vent on 4 went 1/2 mile had to stop at red light and the truck stalled for no reason. It started right back up and has not done it again,(Yet)But it gave no indication it was going to stall like running rough,I stopped at the gas station and put some dry gas in the tank, I still had 3/4 tank of gas. I would be also interested to know if anybody else is having this problem.
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
The "live where the coldest it ever gets is 58 degrees" option takes care of the stalling problem.

Seriously, have it checked out. It will probably be tough to trace, but perhaps there is a bulletin out on it.

I have cancelled my order for a 2000 2500 LS 4x4. Reason: 1) my wife if having an angioplasty done this coming Monday, heart artery problems. 2) I couldn't get one anyway, it could be March, April, or May. Depending on GM's decision to build 2500's not 1500's as they are at the moment. All 1500's to try to keep up with the F150 from FORD. Bad move I think. They don't seem to care if we want a 2500, same thing happened last year. Now they have a lot of 1500's hanging around that nobody will buy. But not a single 2500 is available. Just how dumb can a company be? "nuff said...Wishing you all the luck in the world with your orders........
I will probably get back into the market when GM decides to correct their mistakes, and put out a pickup like they used to...the best on the planet.
Provided my better half gets through everything O.K. I'll surf every now and then just to keep in touch.......Have a nice day everyone :)!

    Well Patrick,

You can try the accessories topic #96 for a history, but here is one that I like.
www.calconcepts.com - Their website isn't that great, but their prices are the best I've found, anywhere. If it's not on the site, give them a call. They say they can get anything you want at wholesale prices.

Here are some others that I've seen in the past but havn't purchased from.

Been reading your post since mid nov.Saw Kyles bragging on dealer in KY,was in market for truck so living with in 10 miles of this Dealor I went over there to test drive a new truck with Greg Stancill.Gave Greg a deposit of $1000.00 on 12/1/99 ordered a 2000 4WD/ EXT CAB /4DR /LT was told to expect delivery in 8 to 12 weeks. Now after 7 weeks of waiting with no end in site they still can`t even get an order number. He has failed to return many phone calls and is full of excusses when you get lucky enough to catch him.Yesterdays excuse was the last one.Got my deposit back today so I could place order with another dealor.I actually saved $250.00 with the new deal, although this was not about money it was about their inability to deliver.has anyone else experienced simular problems with this dealor?Greg you probally won`t like my post but most customers would at least appreciate a call back with status on their orders. Have a wonderful day.

Sameo sameo, but you had better watch it, Kyle won't like this post. And he will probably tell you how he got ONE (1) in a couple of months. Just one though, and it was a 1500. I had to cancel because of wife's medical problems, but with no luck since 11/99, I was on the verge of doing it anyway. I could have waited 3 or 4 months with a local dealer. Getting so you can't trust any car dealers anymore isn't it?

Well long time no read! So you have had some of the '99 problems I see from your post. I hope they are all fixed. I did go to the dealer finally and guess what: the idle is normal. Big surprise. I have the latest revision firmware and it's not "broken" so they say that is just the way it is. I'm not happy but I can live with it. It really torques me when I get in my 18 yr old Honda with 200k and it is way way smoother than the truck. I'm going back to the dealer tomorrow to have my radio replaced with a refurb. I hope it works right.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
There is a GM web site for accessories that Ryan posted awhile back but I didn't bookmark it. He said the print catalog has more items than the web site. What is that link Ryan?

Also try www.performanceproducts.com. They also have a bigger print catalog.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
That's crazy, I've never heard of valve stems failing. I guess that's why the better shops use metal ones. I have the same truck with the same mileage but have only had the tires at 80 psi for 1000 miles. No problems and I had a 2500 lb camper on as well. Maybe yours were from a problem batch.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
OK guys, I'll move into the modern world and switch sides. This will be the first time I've ever done that since I've always had radials. The front X, rear forward sounds like a good idea.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
I've run 80 in the rear...and no problems

I've been running 50 front all the time....40 rear when empty...80 when hauling a load

    works and rides good.

...That Honda won't do what this puppy will though Vince!...hell it could go in the back...and still be under the weight limit!

hey, not everyone can be lucky can they? you're getting sick of hearing that i ordered in november and take delivery TOMORROW? well now, that's too damn bad. maybe you should call a shrink and discuss your issues regarding why you can't have a truck that hasn't even entered production yet. what ever happened to free speech, rog? i can only speak for my experiences. greg stancill's done right by me.

    kyle,
Since there is published leadtimes of 8-10 weeks for Silverado Ext. Cabs, and other individuals are also seeing delivery times similiar to yours on vehicles that are similiar to yours, just maybe luck has nothing to do with the results. Except based on response #95, maybe you did get lucky given the dealer you went through.

We have hopes that it will all be cleared up with the angioplasty. She has it done next Tuesday, we have had a change in time already. But at least it isn't very much different. Hope to be home from Spokane by Wednesday afternoon.

    Again thank you very much,
