The 60 Comet had something similar, but it was singular on each side and laid at an angle. The 60 Edsel tailights were set up to reflect the rudder controls on an airplane - just kidding.

The 60 Ford itself was always a bit controversial, but so was the 59 Chevy and the 60 Dodge. It was the times and they were fun to grow up in. During that period of time I could also watch propliners going into and out of Midway to the south and new B707 and DC8 jetliners from O'Hare to the north of our yard (and at night I could still see stars and fireflies at night). Things were always changing for good or bad, just like these days in some respects.

Say Andys - an Edsel and a 60 Valiant might have been more apropos for styling effect ;)
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,471
Oh yeah I know the layout is different. I mean the same actual part, like the same lens. They look pretty similar:

Now that I look at it, they are shaped slightly different.

The wagon probably wore it best, as the lights had the 60 Ford style fin included in the design:

Fin, I think the tail end of the 60 Edsel actually looks better on the wagon.

92-94 Tempo, may or may not have an engine with that ride height.

I always had trouble telling a Tempo from a Topaz unless I was right on top of it

They each had a different greenhouse so that was how I could tell them apart.

Oh that's right, the Topaz 4dr was a 4 window while the Tempo was a 6 window. Thanks

That's correct for the first gen sedans, but the 2nd gen sedans were 6 window too:

Yep, and still a 6 window. Easiest giveaway is the light bar front end, from when Mercury was running with that theme.

Most Jensen Interceptors of the mid 70s were coupes but a small number were convertibles.
They featured all-wheel drive and Chrysler V8 powertrains.

That is a Morris Minor Traveller, I'd guess 1963.

You're exactly right about make/model but a little off on MY. Don't feel bad, I had no idea they were still making Minors more than a decade into the Mini era. That particular Traveller is a 1970 model!

"Traveller" was the handle used by Austin/Morris for wagons, including Minis. I don't know why new Minis dropped it in favor of Clubman and Countryman. Travellers in the British Isles are vagabonds with no fixed home, possibly related to the Romany/Gypsies of Europe.

Yeah, the Jensen Interceptor Series III Drophead Coupe was made from 1974-1976 and a very nice one could be yours for about $55K (if you wanted it).

Weren't like 75% of them sold in that teal color? Kinda like almost every 90s Chrysler product was hunter green or that black cherry color

    Plymouth Sundance or Dodge Shadow?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,471
Both of those cars appear to be fancier trim Shadows.

My brother had a V6 Sundance Duster in maybe the same color as that top car, or a little lighter - it also had the gold accents. Can't recall the last time I saw one of those on the road.

yeah they are both 93 Shadow ES.

Funny thing... on the Passenger side the decal says "ES Shadow" on the Driver's side "Shadow ES". Always struck me as odd

The red sportsters are either Reliant Sabres or the Israeli-built Sabras ( under license). Most used a 6 cylinder British Ford motor.

'53 Studebaker Starliner, designed by Bob Bourke. Very pretty car, but a production & quality control disaster, built on an old existing chassis design that really didn't work for this car.

Some say it was the first "luxury coupe".
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,465
Well, that red convertible I posted seems to have died on the vine. It is a 1958 Berkeley racer (as described where I found it). Not positive which street model it was modified from.

Didn't Bourke also do some work for Ford after Studebaker?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I think he helped some of his designer buddies with a Ford design--not sure of the particulars. Bourke opened up his own studio in NYC after he and Loewy parted ways.

"An old black and white photo shows a field of Berekeleys on track, though none appear to be wearing this car’s number seven livery—there’s no mention of it in the ad’s text and we’d guess it’s just for illustrative purposes." From BaT copy.

Close but no cigar. The 81's have a narrow rear window on the 2-door. This is an 82.
The taillights are different as well.

    It's been kept garaged.

Took me a long time to figure out what it was because I didn't realize Cougar was still a viable name on a mundane vehicle like that that looked like a Fairmont relative.

It's a 1977 Mercury Cougar Villager wagon. According to the station wagon forum they only made this model based on the LTD II platform for 1 year in 1977 and then another version on the fox body in 1982.

Even more evidence of the devastation caused to Simulated Wood Grain National Park in the 70s and 80s! (It's in Wyoming I think).
