Drat, I've been having great fun dropping the occasional Canadian Mickey into this topic but along comes a Maple Leaf waver and blows the whole deal .
Yep it's a '60 Monarch Lucerne, known to us South of the Border types as the Mercury Monterey. Hideous isn't it ?
Did that open-end hood actually get used on US versions?
If you're referring to the slot above the grille of the Monarch, no, I don't recall those on US Mercuries but then again '60 Mercuries were so bad looking I could have repressed that memory. :surprise:
I don't know of any automotive "Bluebirds" other than those made by Nissan/Datsun.
If you are referring to the blue Firebird in #5310, that is the "Formula 400" hood... That isn't a Trans Am..
They did have a special edition one year that had some sort of logo on the C-pillar... I don't remember if it was a "bluebird", but it was something goofy like that..
Although this looks like a DKW, I think its the East German IFA F9, which used the same body as the DKW Sonderklasse. This would be 1952-6, and they made them until they developed the Wartburg.
I din't think it'd be that hard :confuse: but since no one has so much as ventured a guess in over 12 hours I'll tell ya what it is--a 1950 Olds Holiday Club Coupe. For those of you who don't know the emblem of Olds during the 40s and 50s was a ringed planet Earth>>
That's a Brazilian model, in fact it does *not* share even a platform with the Polo.
VW do Brasil felt the smaller euro VWs were too "dorky" for its buyers, so they begged and pleaded for VW to let them build their own chassis, and won. Probably the last time they'll be allowed to build a non-world car, though.
There are other body styles, basically:
Gol = 3 door hatch Voyage = 2/4 door sedan Parati = 3/5 door wagon
The VW Fox, sold here about a decade ago, was actually made in Brazil, so basically the Fox coupe was a VW Voyage, and the Fox wagon was a VW Parati.
More useless trivia: these cars come with flex/fuel engines now, so they can run on Ethanol or Gas. Even more interesting, the best selling engine is under 1000cc!
Ford Taunus 12M 1952 - about 1960 (I'm unsure on dates), and I can't recall ever seeing a convertible, so I don't know how long they made that version for. The early 15M had the same body for the saloon, from about 1955 - perhaps the convertible was only with the larger engine?

It had a bird (dove-like), and some swirly curlicues around it... Really feminine.. (not that there is anything wrong with that..)

The Gol is the basis for the VW Pointer sold by VW de Mexico, occasionally seen in the states.
Was the Voyage/Fox sedan a version of the Polo or totally unique to Brazilian production?
