Yup, that is the rarely seen Checker Marathon wagon mostly seen as an airport shuttle but once eligible for private carship. My guess is hardly anybody could put up with the sheer ugliness of the thing.

I used to see one of those out front of a local auto shop, except that it had four sets of doors, and was about as long as a tennis court!

Yup, 1964 Dodge Polara convertible it is. IMO it's pretty close between '63 and '64 for best looking Dodges ever. The Old Westbury NY police used to run Dodges back then and according to local legend they ran Hemis in'em. Probably not true but LI towns and counties tended to spend lavishly on police, still do.

My cousins grandmother had a '65 Fury convertible; my oldest male cousin was lucky enough to ferry it from NY to CA when she moved west back in the 80's.
I actually recognised the Honda Element in the distance on that Polara shot as there is one around here occaisionally which drove past last week - it wasn't sold in the UK as far as I know but somebody local has a Grey Import one, and I have seen a couple of others from time to time
@stickguy Humber super snipe? No clue if it really is, but I love the name!
I knew someone who had a Humber Super Snipe. His was LHD and had been bought from a US serviceman somewhere in East Anglia - probably one of the big air bases like Mildenhall or Lakenheath I think.
Humber made a car called the Snipe before the war - they named it after the game bird. They also had Hawks at that time
It was a car for the "County" set in the Manor Houses that turn bodies in every Agatha Christie...
When they improved the Snipe they made it the Super Snipe - it is strange name .
Riley did the same sort of thing - they had Kestrels and Plovers in the thirties but the best was a Gamecock....
I can essentially do nothing to add to this thread. However, I sure enjoy reading about all of these relatively obscure details of automotive trivia! You folks have my respect for your dedication to the craft.

Everybody here brings something to this thread - sometimes we are off on side issues but it's great to be able to connect to like minded people Fifteen years ago I didn't know anyone who would discuss the obscurities of the automotive world like this, and long may it continue.
I like the way this forum brings us together although I am (I think) one of the few regular contributors not in North America. The time difference does make me sign off just as your side of the planet is on, but never mind.
I find new things about cars every day through the posts I think as much of what is routine in the US is totally different from what we have in the streets....
that is a really early looking Jeep. CJ or military? Looks like just a half top so the back must be an open bed. Would not want to take that one out on the highway!
and up front an Impala Super Sport ('67?) back left an Econoline work van.
The Impala Super Sport the lady is driving is a '66. 1960 Dodge 4-door (I believe a Phoenix, since it has the longer of the 2 fin styles that year) in behind it.
I live the gas station designed to look like a tug boat.
I think the yellow truck is an early GMC step van. When I was little my dad had a round design one like that before they went square and boxy in the 70s.
I wouldn't mind finding one of those, in the right (blue on blue) color combo. 60 Galaxie "Town Victoria" 4 door HT, on full wheelcovers no less. Not sure about that whitewall width, maybe replacement tires.
White wall width strikes me as about right for 1960. I keep expecting wws to make a comeback but it's not happening. I'd love to put a set of red stripe tires on my BMW
Not sure exactly where this was taken, but Super Duper was a chain operating in NY, PA and OH back then. Pic is unusual in that at first glance I see neither Chevys nor Fords.
