both those cars are on age related plates - YUP on the Vauxhall is a series from 2013 and that one was from Manchester - local to Tatton Park - and YUL on the Ashley is from 2016 I think - presumably the latter was to replace a lost registration when the car was rebuilt

I'm having trouble w the dark red Cadillac in front row, possibly pre-war 1940-42? Next to it a '58ish Edsel h/t. Black/yellow '57 Ford convertible.

    @andys120
I found a picture of the Cadillac

Also @fintail the DKW Auto Union

And just to show anything can show up there is an Armoured division apparently as well...
This is an AV101 Scorpion with its original British military plate and it's age-related civilian one

Seems to be a shortage of '60 Fords all of a sudden. ;)

Here's one from the early '60s, somewhere in Virginia:

Brave man driving an Isetta among the mastodons.

Many falcons. And some other foreign car on the near shoulder. Can’t really make it out, but almost a 60s Ferrari vibe.

For a minute I thought we had two 1960 Fords with the Falcon, but both Falcons are 1961 models.

The grill on the black Falcon does look like a 1960.

Also in there, a 1953 Chrysler New Yorker. (4 verticals on the front bumper).
As to the red Cadillac, based on that hood ornament, a 1941.

Although based on an Isetta that little car is a BMW 600
is the wagon to the left of it a 59 Dodge Sierra?

Behind the 53 Chrysler (New Yorker?) is I think a 55 Oldsmobile

Isn't the mystery foreign car a Karmann Ghia?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,431
Yep, there was an early Matchbox of the Commer pick up.

Cadillac is a 41 Fleetwood 60 special, a highline model.

Reminds me of a Los Angeles River floodway.

I see a couple 62 models in the pic (Chevy wagon at left, Galaxie kind of in the middle. I'll go with a Karmann Ghia for the mystery foreign car, gives a Borgward Isabella vibe too, but some details aren't quite right.

I don't think it is a '59 Sierra since the '59 did not have an emblem/model script on the front fender near the door as this one does. Most likely a '57 Sierra or maybe a Suburban given the low-end look that one is exhibiting.

I think the "M" plate would be from around 1963, but the car could be re-registered.

A couple to ID at background left:

I know the year of the movie, and MB used wide whites until MY 1965 - car either has replaced tires, or the movie was released again later.

The Tempest is a 1963 LeMans with the "326" V8, last MY before the redesign that included the GTO/389
option. Some over @ TOM.com beleive the engine badged as 326CID was actial 336 cubes in 1963.

That makes no sense to me.

I'll grab the more visible one in the back. I believe that it is a '59 Mercury.

How about these two? These are the earliest cars I can remember of my childhood. The tan one is the vehicle in which I learned the value of seatbelts....

Photo was most likely 1980, in Pendleton, Oregon.

Are those both 73s, and have bigger tires on the rear, smaller upfront?

Large car at lower left maybe a 64 Mercury 4 door HT.

I see at least a few "new" 79-80 models in the mix, maybe a few rental cars being airport parking and all.

That's the weirdest faux Mansard roof I've seen.

Car is a 70 Impala 4 door HT, similar to the car in the "Marathon Man" road rage scene:

I'm not sure on the years. I'll see if I can find any photos that have either of them at a different angle.

Bwaahahahhahahahaha. This is a Polariod photo that did not withstand the test of time.... plus, apparently *someone* was holding a grudge against a former lover here (I believe the person cut out of the photo was my stepfather-at-the-time. My brother and I are the "survivors" in the image.

And, that's it. I cannot find any other photos with either of these cars in them. Both of the vehicles are in the image above.

From memory, I think that the tan car, at least, did have smaller tires in the front.

Maidstone Kent - probably mid sixties - The youngest car there may be the Mk II Cortina beyond the rear of the DS
    Should expand

A couple of easy ones: Dark color Mini on left. Citroen ID/DS near center. Morris Minor in second row w divided windshield. Citroen pointing at a Standard Ten (I think).

@fintail - that is pretty impressive with the modern view... Those older single storey buildings to the left on that shot look like some sort of Almshouses - for poor folk from the Victorian era before the welfare state.

You are all right but for the little car in front of the DS - It's an Austin A30 rather than a Standard 10.

The car next to it, though, with the big round tail lights, is a Standard - a Mk III Vanguard. Fin spotted the Mk I Vanguard.

It's amazing how the addition of some landscaping can transform an urban environment.

I used Streetview to look at the homes on the side streets to the left of the photo. They all look like fairly low-end housing but who knows for sure. Would the 2 modern apartment blocks be Council housing?

The apartment blocks would probably have been Council housing when built but may by now have probably been sold off - sadly a lot of tower blocks were not built particularly well and frequently suffer from higher than budgeted repair issues
