Magnette's online ID derives from his ownership of an MG Magnette ZA. The car I posted is the ZA's immediate predecessor in the MG sedan lineup, an MG YA, a prewar design that soldiered on until the introduction of the Magnette ZA in the early 50s.

Like most MG saloons the YA was never officially exported to our side of the Atlantic not least because it was hopelessly outdated. Neat looking though.

    Here's a 1947 example.

Yes, you're looking at the very luscious Emma Peel and her Lotus Elan. I believe it was the S4 that has the fixed window franes.

    I'm pretty sure that's not a Valiant.

What is the car behind the 62 Olds Starfire convert? Is it a Mercury or Meteor?

In Toronto, maybe a Karmann Ghia just behind the bus. Sedan delivery looking rig behind that maybe a 55-56 Pontiac?

"Valiant" appears to be a Vauxhall Victor-based Envoy.

The Meteor does indeed appear to be a Meteor, 1961.

The Vauxhall and the Meteor are the two reasons I posted the pic as they would have been unlikely finds south of the Canadian border.

When I was 5 years old my father bought a '61 Meteor like the one pictured new.

I like how the chrome trim line on the fin of that Meteor kind of bisects the taillight, unique styling there.

Approaching the Chevy appears to be a 55/56 Ford wagon( or Canadian equivalent).

One of the best rear lights ever IMO, screams "1958".

That Meteor is quite distinctive with those rear lights

The Victor / Envoy is of course the FB series which was really big seller here although it was overshadowed almost from the start by the even more successful Ford Cortina

Between them, though, they saw the decline of the BMC Farina range (Oxford / Cambridge etc) and the Minx family

That is a Lloyd LT 500 or possibly a 600 - early to mid 50's

Lloyd was related to Goliath and part of the Borgward group in post war West Germany

Looks like an Austin Princess, early 50s. I swear I have seen them with Rolls-Royce or Bentley grilles.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
Yes - it's an Austin A135 Princess Saloon - this one was registered in 1951.

It is more familiar as a Limo. From 1958 the limo was to be renamed the Vanden Plas Princess 4 1/2 litre with the Austin name being dropped for this range.

The limo was "converted" by various people to fake a Rolls Royce - generally by just altering the bonnet edges and fitting an old RR grille - mainly for use as a wedding car

In fairness they are comfortable old things (sadly mostly at funerals) and from the inside aren't any different from a Daimler (but I've never been in a Rolls Limo)

65 Impala "sport sedan" beside the Minor, 61 Cadillac nearest the camera.

And not just a store selling corsets, maybe a store only selling corsets.
