Funny thing about those Turbo Coupes was the power difference between the manual and auto. Manual versions were 190HP, autos had decreased boost dropping HP to 150.

No doubt the engineers figure the autos were less robust at handling sudden loads of torque. FWIW my A/T 2016 Mustang is rated @ 310HP.

Out on a jog last week I noticed a 87-88 Turbo Coupe sitting in an alley, not in bad shape. To have survived this long, someone is caring for it in some way, even if minmally.

I always kind of liked the 87-88, but it really needs to be the right spec, as they can look dowdy. I had this Matchbox version in my fleet back in the day:

60 Ford in Detroit is a Galaxie, great color. Would have been getting pretty old in that climate by 1974, someone must have been caring for it. Big Bird at left is a 73-74.

Audi 4000 is no older than 1985. A-body behind/above the Tempo, a Ciera or 6000. Looks like period Illinois plates.

Yup, it's a '59 Chevy Impala Sport Coupe. I have a promotional piece from a California Chevy dealer--it's a 54 inch rule that sez on it that the '59 Impala sport coupe is 54 inches tall. I guess that was pretty low in the days when cars were longer, lower and wider every year.

By contrast my 2016 Mustang is about 52 inhes tall.

The '60 El Camino was probably pretty uncommon even then.

I am intrigued by a 2-door hardtop with a fairly modern roofline that is mostly hidden behind the '59 Chevy that is being shown to a potential customer, on the left side of the pic. I think it may be a Mercury.

That's a good guess, we had a '59 Mercury Monterey w the same huge wraparound glass. I think the '59/60 Mercs had the biggest windshields ever.

just to the right of that Austin A55 is the nose cone of a 50 ish Studebaker and in the right foreground is a Rambler American

Also to the left of that ElCamino is a 60 Oldsmobile and above that is a 52 or so Packard convertible
