    It is the SX 3700. Wonderfully built, great tactile feel, solid performance. Bought it at Sight and Sound in Knoxville during my sophomore year. Paid for it on lay away as I managed to put scarce money aside as I worked through college.

    I think the black taxi(2 behind the 2 tone Chevy taxi) is a Packard.

    Indeed it is. Late '40s.

    Way back in the day, I had a Heathkit AR-15, which I built.

    I built an AR-29 when I first started working. I'd like to find some way to sell it.
    How do I find someone that would want to try to see if it works...
    I recall I took my finished product to Heathkit's store and they tested
    the output and it gave 55 watts per channel.

    When I googled it I found a shop that sells a restoration part kit for the AR-29. You could ship it to him to test it, but not worth the money I'd guess. Me, I'd find an old pair of speakers, hook them up, and see what happens. Or google 'electronics repair yourcity', see what pops up.

    I don't think so Renaults like most cars of that era were rust prone, that one probably had a nice dry garage.

    Seattle is damp, but not very cold, and there's no issue with sun damage. Cars generally age well, rust is not unknown, but takes a long time to take hold. I suspect if that Dauphine was anywhere with heavy sun or salt, it may not have existed by then.

    Here’s a pic of my SX-3900 I took today. It needs some service because the tuner is now flaky and is very touchy, but since I seldom use it it isn’t a priority. Handsome beast.

    Pioneer definitely made some good looking receivers.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136

    The others I remember as distinctive are the Marantz with the thumb wheel tuning.

    Those receivers should all be from 77-79. I think in 1980 or 81 they went full digital.

    Has anyone looked at the value of those Pioneer, Marantz and Sandui receivers? Big bucks especially for the higher end ones.

    Back to cars. Saw a really nice 74 Fleetwood last night. Triple black. Loved it.

    The Pioneers like mine with the digital display were transitional models, still with a lot of of same guts as the x50 and x80 receivers that preceded them in the late '70s, selling in '81. They were followed by a generation of fully digital display receivers which are not beloved, such as this SX5. I remember seeing these on the shelves and thought they were very futuristic at the time, and almost bought one until the guy running my favorite stereo shop told me to stay away from them.

    IIRC that early Range Rover was simply "Range Rover", as it was a sub-brand of Land Rover. Debuted in 1970, a remarkably modern design.

    Seattle, claims to be 1974, but the cars seem older. Might be correct, as cars age well there.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,551
    that is a pretty old taxi for 1974. that Plymouth in the center looks like the newest car and it is maybe a 1967?

    The car nearest the Plymouth looks like a Studebaker. They stopped making those in '63 IIRC.

    Andy that Range Rover looks very early but is registered in Spain.

    I think the Spanish plant - Land Rover Santana - didn't assemble the early Range Rovers but may be wrong on that

    They did assemble a wide range of standard L-R models often with more basic suspension etc for a cheaper product and aimed that at Latin America too for CKD units.

    @andys120

    I thought a DeSoto as it is a distinctive grille and a 49because I think the chrome badge is for a 48/49 one too

    I have a model of a 4-door one (a Modern Matchbox Classic from the eighties) - like this one

    @ab348

    Actually mixed news regarding our NHS.

    I had a replacement knee in 2019 and it went wrong - post operation infection which can happen _ 1 % chance - so I was laid low for a long while then, and was just ready for it to be replaced and had signed the consent form for the operation when the infection was cleared in time for the pandemic to stop all operations for what in my case was two years.

    It isn't something one litigates for as in fairness these things happen and we are looked after generally cradle to grave so I just had to wait - still, this time it looks like its worked properly and I am hopeful it will behave itself.

    Can't drive for two months as left leg - so can't use clutch ... (both my MG and our Fiesta are manual / stick )

    I do have free use of our public transport now due to old age so its not all bad....
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,353
    @magnette - glad you seem to be doing better on replacement knee #2. I have needed a knee replacement for some time and was supposed to get one in 2017 when the wave of heart-related issues returned and put an end to those plans. Just this month during my most recent visit to Cardiology I asked them about that and was told that I should see what the orthopedist says. The knee is virtually non-functional now and quite painful so I am in some need, but the heart situation is not good either, so who knows.

    Sorry guys, I think you're right but to reiterate it is an Alfa-Romeo 2000 Spider ca. 1960. The 2000 was a top=of-the-line model, more Gran Turismo than Sports car unlike most Alfa Spiders. coachwork was by
    Touring Superleggera. Most topless Alfas were done by Pinifarina.
