Yes it is a (1950) Morris Oxford;at least that's what the caption said. It matches pretty closely with the
    photo of one on Wikipedia>

The green on that Morris MO Oxford is more attractive than the mud colour on the other one - most old cars when I was a kid were ones from the late thirties through to the mid fifties and they were predominantly black grey maroon or that dingy brown mud

By the late fifties they did start to get brighter but there were a lot of those still knocking around

My local area - South Wales - wasn't the most prosperous part of the country
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Behind the brown MO there is a Vauxhall - probably 10 HP model - which was I think their first unitary construction model from 1938, but they stopped making it in 1948. They were actually quite tough cars - the later Vauxhalls that followed were known to rust - a lot - but there were still a few of those old 10s about even into the seventies

Not a whole lot of mystery here (although some of the cars outside will be a bit more work) but I liked this picture the first time I saw it.

I had a hornet hatch like that. Dark green. And I think the silver hood on far right is another hornet.

Aw, no Matador coupe. I was disappointed it recently made an 'ugliest cars' list. I liked them.

it had style at least. Too bad it didn't work out to get the wankle engine it was designed for.

AMC sure loved that beige paint in the ‘70s. That’s the color of Dad’s ‘75 Sportabout he bought new.

Furrin job on the left is a Fiat 1100 ~1960. One on the right is familiar but not coming to mind.

The brown one is indeed a Rambler Classic. Specifically a '64 Classic 770. My dad had one in dark green.

The Pacer holds a special place in my heart; my mother thought that every woman in the US would want one, so she bought 100 shares of AMC stock. I've inherited my investing prowess from her.

Pacer story - my uncle was in the military (I forget the branch), stationed in the Philippines, and married a Filipino woman. He was sent stateside in 1977-78, and my aunt was wildly enamored with the Pacer, she wanted one for her first car, and she got one. According to my uncle, it wasn't a bad car, I think they kept it until he was sent to Japan around 1984 or so. Come to think of it, I think he had a Hornet in the 70s, maybe he was a mild AMC fan, although I recall him talking about that car, he bought it super cheap as a surplus fleet vehicle. When I was a kid, I thought the Pacer was freaky and not in a good way - I recall a friend of my mom had one with the kind of southwest blanket pattern upholstery, and that made it even weirder to me. Of course, with the passage of time, nostalgia, and appreciation for designs, I don't mind them at all.

When Dad bought the Sportabout in '75, the Pacer had just been introduced and I remember taking a test drive in one at the dealership. Compared to the Sportabout, the interior was much better trimmed and designed, and had far better fit of the various components than the rather crude Sportabout (of course it was also more expensive). It drove quite nicely as I recall, quiet and smooth, had lots of room inside, and the looks were different but not off-putting - I guess I was one of those who liked it right at the start, as it sold like crazy for the first few months on the market.

Yep, I thought it might be a 1200 since those were more popular here that the Millecentos
but you are likely correct. I think the 1200s were more square and a bit larger.
Can'y place the gray car on right either. Anyone?

The grey car on the right is an early Simca Aronde IMHO

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,510
Ah, it is a Simca! I was thinking French, but only the finned Simcas came to mind.

    Ugly from all angles!

Oddly, in 61 Chrysler and Imperial still had big fins, which would be dated fast.
