Sorry - I've been missing from this site for ages.

This one is somewhere Italy but I have no idea where or when it was taken - I just thought the two cars depicted would be of interest...

ps - neither of them is a Fiat

I think the SR code on both plates is Syracuse in Sicily

Car at right Simca 1000? At left (foreground) Innocenti Austin A40 ?

    @fintail

Yes the white car is a Simca 1000 but you were half way there with the blue one

Instead of an English Austin assembled by Innocenti, this was an English Ford assembled in Italy...

    It's a Ford Anglia Torino

Ford assembled Anglia 105's in Italy from about 1960 but the model was redesigned locally to get rid of the fins and the rear slanting window from about 1964 to 67

They sold about 10,000 in Italy, and also sold them Benelux countries for a couple more years, and eventually assembled the Torino in the Belgian Ford plant in 1965 -7

These two Dutch examples were presumably from the latter...

Incidentally in Britain the Anglia design also got a bit dated quite quickly, but they found that one in ten customers by about the mid sixties were choosing the Estate version which was of course effectively a hatchback in all but name

Amusingly, beside the Ford and Chrysler are two Beetles in a row, and further up the line are two VW buses side by side.

Y'up, it was essentially what we now call a CUV nowadays with it's high ground clearance ( tho it was FWD only-based on the Simca 1100). The Rancho was sold as a Simca, a Talbot-Matra, and a Matra-Simca as well as a Ranch in Italy. between 1977 and 1984.

We learned a lot about Euro cars from Dinky and Matchbox Toys.

Was initially thinking AC 428, but I can see just a sliver of the badge at front. Maserati Mistral, ~1968.

I was wondering. That's a '63 Impala Sport Coupe in a very odd place, possibly owned by a US serviceman.

Nice Fintail Benz 220 in foreground but what's that little weirdo across the street? Note its door has hinges in rear.

The 1958 Lincoln Continentals had rear windows which lowered, as shown.
    The 1958 Premieres' could not.

A few years later (1963?) Mercury picked up the retractable rear window and called the feature “Breezeway”.

Fomoco back then seemed to think the reverse-slant rear window concept would take off. It never really did, though they still sold a remarkable number of vehicles over the few years they offered it.

You are correct. I looked too quickly at the picture. So in fact this is a 58 Continental which was the top line model.

MGA FHC representing the imports. Don’t think that’s a hardtop, but no clue if it came with a fixed roof. Next to an Edsel.

Couple of 55 Fords, 56 Ford, 57 Ford, 57 Thunderbird, couple of 59 Fords, couple of Square Birds, at least two 60 Fords, two Edsels, 59 Chevy. Believe there’s an older than 60 Ford left of the first Square Bird.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
Center of the pic, 3/4 up near a few people is a 60 Starliner. Edsel at lower R looks like a wagon.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,601
On the right, a bit more than half-way up, is a white Rambler wagon next to a 59 Ford. There appears to be another Rambler on its left; this one dark-colored.

To play my favorite game, I see nothing newer that 1960 here. Anyone else?

A 60 Mercury on the right near the top, 60 Chevy 2nd row from the bottom, another 60 ford on the left a couple of rows behind the 2 tone ford wagon.
Another Edsel of the far right next to the MGA(?).
