I only meant that I noticed the car had a wood steering wheel.

That’s a Mercedes-quality model. If only the car was as good.

Were it not for the Bundy Bounce (Bauman Bounce?), the newwwww Allante! would have faded to obscurity.
Another case study of GM marketing brilliance (followed up by XLR and ELR).

The guy that bought my 04 Grand Marquis pulled up in an Allante when he looked at it.

He told me he had two of them.

Allante was quite nice looking IMO but it was nearly as expensive as an SL, and not nearly as well finished or as much of a tank (107s are nicknamed "panzerwagen" - they are not sports cars). Caddy didn't learn its lesson when it put a tux on a Corvette with the XLR. If MB owns one segment, it's the posh boulevarder roadster.

    Me too.
One needs at least two days there to take it all in.

Saw my favorite car at the HF yesterday. Lemans winning 1967 Ford GT40 Mark IV driven by Dan Gureny and A J Foyt.
It was cleaned up but the last time I saw it, decades ago, it was in 'after race' condition with dirt and rubber all over it.
There are lots of other interesting things there besides cars and trucks.
One of the dioramas was a teenagers room from 1980.
We went through the Hallmark Christmas Ornament display which went from 1973 through 2009.
Ordinarily not my thing, but I enjoyed it.
Next time will probably go to Greenfield Village.

Andy's car looks like a DKW 3=6, probably quite rare in RHD.

That Bugatti isn't just a Bugatti, but a Bugatti Royale, kind of like a road going locomotive in size.

More pics. Seeing the giant locomotive was impressive.

I also saw a ballgame at Tiger Stadium that trip. What a great place to watch a game.

I think the Fairlane is a 1962 and there's a 1963 Chevy two to the right of the convertible.

Those DC-10s used to be so common. I remember my first time flying on a 747.... that seemed so amazing to me, just the sheer amount of seats/room in that plane! I was flying with my brother (we were just little guys) to Anchorage, and the plane was *maybe* 25% filled. We had the run of the place!

I flew NY>LA in an almost empty 747 once. There were only 20 people or so on a Thanks giving day flight.

Reminds me of a New Years Eve flight from Charleston to Atl in the evening. It was me and 8 military (Army) who were all in the back of the plane in party mode in a Super DC8, the long version. I recall the pilot announcing the descent into ATL would be noisy because he was going to apply the air brakes to be able to do a fast (steep) approach to get ahead of other traffic instead of having to wait in line for landing.

I don't think the military folks even noticed. I think they were entertaining the stewardesses or vice-versa. Charleston airport shares runways with a military base.

My first time on a 747 was a bit different - a 100% full flight from Brussels to Cairo, on Egypt Air. You can be sure it had the maximum seats possible, and when my wife asked if our area was no-smoking the attendant laughed.

My grandparents lived near there for about fifty years, and we were sent up to stay with them in the summer for six to eight weeks every few years. I guess our folks needed a break from us hooligans!

Ugh, don't remind me about those dark ages of air travel.... smoking! So inhumane.
