Dawson in that pic looks like a booming metropolis. Here is a more current day pic of the same spot with an interesting vehicle shown as well:

Correct accent, I believe the mystery car is a Simca Aronde.

Facel Vega FV or HK, don't seem to recall seeing a convertible before.

Yep it's a 1958 Facel Vega FV. The wraparound windshield is an American styling touch that was popular for high dollar Euro cars in the late 50s

Not just the Silver Cloud, but the first gen pre-facelift Mopar minivan and what looks like maybe an M body 5th Avenue beside it also caught my eye.

    1969 I guess, zooms fine:

I'll start with a Volvo brick (144, early I think). I am somewhat perplexed by the lack of badging on the side.

Volvo 144. Like the one we had when I was a kid.

    I think the mustang is a 67

I think the Mustang is a '69. Those wheel covers were available that year, and it has the faux-vent ahead of the rear wheel.

The plane-a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, a derivative of the B-29, came out right after WWII, pressurized.

Rhein-Main Airbase. Been there, done that. US troops in and out of there for 60 years.
    Opel Kapitan.

Kitsilano area of Vancouver maybe late 60s, zooms enough to ID several:

Not likely an America given it being the late '60s, more likely the Austin 1100 that it was derived from. We had one. Good car except for lack of power.

In Dawsons Creek the little white car is a Simca Aronde

    @fintail

In front of the ADO 16 ia a Valiant coupe and I think the sedan is a mid sixties Polara perhaps?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,423
I may be misremembering but I think the Austin America was 2 door only. I'd agree it is an 1100 as does not appear to be the MG variant that also made it to NA.

I think the sedan on the road is a Plymouth of what looks like a relatively basic spec.

LA somewhere I'd guess around 1982-83, a fun smorgasbord here, zooms fine:

200SX in front of the Ford van in the upper right.

That's the LA I remember from my youth - mostly foreign cars.

Now this is in my formative years wheelhouse!

Gen 1 RX7 in front of a gen 1 Prelude. Far curb a RWD Mazda 626 behind a hornet sportabout. Wedge celica. My favorite.

The MG version was never sold in Canada. You’re correct that the America was only available in a 2-door.

These days the offspring of the owners of the Supra/Prelude/RX-7 gang would have their Lambo/Ferrari/McLaren convoy terrorizing DTLA.

Only thing missing in the LA pic is a MB diesel.

The old Supra/RX-7/Prelude gang look pretty put together, maybe also represented by the current Supra and sporty Germans today - the exotics going to those who found a little wealth (which could be had simply by investing in local real estate). I was also going to nominate the obnoxious half clapped out Infiniti/Mustang crowd, but I think that's something distinct.

That must be the model for going round to the shops. When I did a search and clicked on the company's link, it presented a 900hp version with no price shown.

Thanks but no thanks on the EV.

Per the source, this is 138 W. Cordova in Vancouver BC in November 1968, zooms nice enough, some variety to be seen:

I'm speculating, but from what little can be seen of the car behind the GTO on the passenger side I will say it's a 60 Ford four-door (not a Galaxie)

A white Peugeot 404, a 60 Mercury Comet at the pump, furthest left in the picture a white 56 Ford.

Is the car at the pump a 404 or a BMC (likely Austin) Farina?

I agree on the 60 Ford, or maybe a same year Meteor.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,598
I'll double dip and id the 51 Chevy at the near curb.

I'll say an Austin, which in that era would be more plentiful in that part of Canada than a Peugeot. Very similar body design though.

Beside the blue and white Pontiac on the right. I’m going by the drop down rear window. Thought it was only available on the Turnpike Cruiser. I could be mistaken.

That’s a 60 Lincoln. They also had that type roll down rear backlight.

The 1960 Lincoln had the diagonal ends of the fins extend downward to the elevation of the bottoms of the tail lights' lenses.
    I'll stick with its being a 1958.
