    I'm thinking the silver/blue wagon is a Datsum 810(?)
A silver Audi 5000 just after that.

The blue car front left appears to a 1968 Pontiac Beaumont. To it's left seems to be a late-run Plymouth Valiant.

The wagon behind the Firebird is a Datsun 610, probably a '73. Beyond that is what I believe is an early run Audi 5000, with a blue Civic and a red early '70s Corolla further back.

There is what appears to be a '60s convertible cruising past in the laneway that I cannot quite identify. It has what looks like early Chevy II taillights but I'm not sure if that is it.

Audi 5000 was a 1978 model year debut and an uncommon car at the time, which makes me think the pic could be just after 1977.

Car beside the Civic appears to be a Morris Marina - they were sold in NA for a moment. Ford product between the Euro looking mini motorhome at left and the vans appears to be a 77+ Cougar.

I have to think that by 1991 even in SF, that a '56 Plymouth would be an odd thing to see in traffic.

Current streetview does not have the double decker, so I assume it is the Embarcadero.

Seattle had something similar, "the viaduct". I'd always chant "please no earthquake, please no earthquake" on the odd occasion I had to drive on it. It's gone now too.

Yugo caught my eye just as much as the old Plymouth.

The Embarcadero Freeway was torn down in '91, I wonder if that picture's a bit older. What's the newest car there?

    finally cars from my era!

Pacer in the center next to a mid 60's Ranchero. Have never seen one like that in person. pair of gen 1 Civics behind a 75ish Celica hatch (I had one of that generation). Over to the right of the Pinto pulling out, is a 70-72 era Javelin with a duck tail, so one of the hot rod versions. up ahead a later Brick Volvo (might be a 164) based on the taillights. with a Datsun 510 behind that.

Now there's one for me, a bit more than a decade later I went to college there. I believe the Ranch Room still exists. This would be Holly St, looking N, was a one way when I was there and I think still is (haven't been there in several years).

Kind of in the middle of the pic, far R travel lane, in front of a Maverick is a then-brand new Camaro. Knowing Bellingham, some of these cars still exist.

I really liked the first gen Accord. The dealership in Charlottesville where dad bought the 76 Cutlass Supreme wagon, also sold Hondas. Bill Edwards Olds/Honda. The Accord was $3995.00 base price. I still have that brochure.

Also in Bellingham notice all the cars have an "F" license plate prefix. Until around 1980, WA plates had the letter part of the plate sequence determined by county, in descending order by population rank (A=King, B=Pierce, C=Spokane, etc). F was Whatcom county.

Colorado does pretty much the same thing, as DMV registrations are handled at the county level. I know that in El Paso County (home to Colorado Springs), the beginning letter was a K back in the 80's, as a college buddy of mine was from there.

Florida and Tennessee did something similar. In Florida I don’t recall the exact sequence. I remember the license plates started with a number. 1 was Miami, the largest city, 4 was St. Petersburg, my hometown. In TN, same format. 1 was Memphis, 2 Nashville, 3 Knoxville, etc.

many years ago NY did prefixes by county. My father was a volunteer fireman and the name of the fire company was Excelsior, and in the county they used EX for them. NY has an Excelsior county that happened to use EX on the plates. So many of the fireman went and got plates out there so they would have EX plates on their cars.

I always had guys wanting to race my Mazdaspeed3. With the Mazdaspeed CAI and a mild tune it made close to 300 hp so I surprised a few people- at least when my wife wasn't in the car. One time a Dodge Stealth R/T kept pacing me wanting a roll race; my wife was on board so I was ignoring him. My 14 year old son in the back seat says, "Dad, he's not that fast- you can take him!"

I wanted one (never having driven one, though). But hated the wrap around rear spoiler (Superman's cape), preferred the original wing.

I remember when I bought my '05 Acura TL, salesdude said, "Now Mr. LD, would you like the high mounted spoiler or the low mounted spoiler?
"Why, I'd like the free spoiler."
    "There is no free spoiler."
    "Exactly."

Lotsa Fords in that picture. The nearest car is a 1951 (I think) Chevy. My dad bought one as a beater to drive to work so my sister could drive the good car (1960 Falcon, so the term was relative) to and from college. The Chevy had Powerglide, which normally started in high gear. Talk about slip sliding away.
