FortuneCity doesn't support hotlinking of pics. You could just post the url like this which should open a new browser window.

Of course, that doesn't work either. But, if you copy/paste the url to another browser window, it works.

    It's a Carrera, right?

Nice they have the graphic. Probably the only way I would spell it right.

Lets see, is it a 1973 RS?

It is indeed a '73 911RS Carrera, a significant car in the development of the 911 since it was the first to feature aerodynamic add-ons from the factory and a bigger motor (2.7L)
than the 2.2L the 911 was born with in '66.

The instrument panel looks like something from a 70s era Fiat but I don't think that's it.

Well it's RHD, so that most likely means either UK or Australia. It's a '60s-era car too, judging by the design. Could be late '50s too.

Good point Bob, but isn't Japan a RHD country as well?

I'll go out on a limb here and eliminate the 50s as that type of grouped instrument pod wasn't around until the late 60s though the thin squarish wheel looks a little 50s except that it's too unadorned, Most likely 70s I'm guessing, and it's doubtful that any of us has ever sat behind that wheel.

for someone to figure out what vehicle Kristie's dashboard comes from no one has identified my little yellow coupe from #827. Perhaps the picture didn't come thru so here it is with another angle for those who could see it.

The license plate says Matra Simca, and a Google search turned up Matra-Simca Bagheera.

the plate is illegible on my screen, LOL. The Matra-Simca Bagheera was unusual in that it featured three-abreast seating but unlike the McLaren F1 and the Ferrari Pininfarina concept cars the driver sat on the left=>image

A very fine 1949-50 Packard woody. Did not know they made one. Straight 8 flathead that I learned to drive in.

Loved those old woodies, especially rare ones like that Packard.

    I'll guess it's a compact convertible from early 70's.

Nope, but I'll offer a hint - it is a British car, and the nearly square steering wheel was the least of its problems.

in thinking that it was unlikely any of us had ever sat behind that dash? I'm afraid I can't jog the names of any 70s Austins out of my head other than the Marina, and Maxi.

It can't be an Austin America cuz it's RHD and that doesn't look like a Mini dash.

The last time I was in Hawaii, we stopped this guy in an old British car to ask directions. He said the car was a Taxi cab at one time and the make was a Winchester. Has anyone ever heard of this car. Unfortunetly I failed to take a picture.

Yes! Otherwise known as the Austin All-Aggro. (aggro=aggravation)
My father-in-law had an Austin that broke down on his way home from the purchase. Wonderful vehicles!

Ah, British cars... I used to have an Austin Marina, which one day got towed to the dealer. On the repair order the mechanic wrote "the carburetor fell apart."

I can't keep them straight. How about a 250? California coupe? A Pinto?

Can't say I ever heard of a Winchester, what we think of as traditional Brit taxis were diesel powered Austins like this FX3=>

The Ferrari is a 250GT Berlinetta Lusso, my fave one from that time. Very elegant.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
You gave me an excellent idea for a search and I found that they only built 40 of the Winchester taxis in the 1960s. They were fibreglas, no wonder he was living on the beach and the car was not rusted out. Here is the gallery of taxis for sale. You may enjoy looking at some of the old vehicles.

It's a favorite of mine as well. I think it's the most beautiful car I have ever seen and I can still remember the first one I saw on Route 17 (The Quickway) in the Catskills 41 years ago, it was silver and wore Italian license plates.

First thought was superbee, but something doesn't look quite right at the front, or maybe it is the aftermarket mags.

And what a nostalgia trip. I haven't heard the phrase "quickway" for Rt. 17 in years. Also quite a misnomer!

  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Yeah, it looks like a '68 or '69, but it must be debadged - no superbee on the grill ;)

Maybe it's a Coronet with the stripe on the rear added? Can't really tell if the rear pillar is as thick as the Coronet or Superbee's, it almost looks thinner.

...a 1968 Dodge midsize. My college roommate had a 1968 Dodge Coronet 440 sedan in that same color. Is the car a '68 Coronet R/T?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
that it's an R/T but you can see the R/T logo and yes it's a '68 440 Coronet

Well that's a Maseratti front, a four door, and bears a little resemblance to their new Quattroporte in the front (to me at least), so I'll say it is an older Maseratti Quattroporte. As far as the year though, don't know. Mid 60's maybe?

    But that's just a WAG.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Not bad for a WAG, Kev. It's the first Maser Q'porte that was introduced in '66, body by Frua as with practically every Maserati of the era.

And here's another from the Euro side of the Atlantic=>

Jaguar XJ12C - circa 1975 or so. Not too many made, and even fewer brought over to the US. This was replaced by the "flying buttress" coupes, whose model name has escaped me at the moment.
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
.... but I don't know how to link a picture that I see into a message.

Would someone be kind enough to share their secrets with me?
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
The replacement coupe you are referencing is the XJ-S
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
Thanks! I remember seeing one of those many years ago on the dealership floor ... I sat in it and marvelled at the wood and leather and wool carpeting, then realizing that it had a blind spot the size of Rhode Island over each shoulder.

How do we know that the picture that andy posted is the in-line 6 or the V12?
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
probably an easy way to tell, but I'm not aware of one right off the bat.

Looks to be a series II version of the XJ, which I think is when the "C" coupe version was first introduced, but past that, I don't know an easy way to tell between a 6 or 12 from the outside. Maybe tire/wheel package gives it away?
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
Well, one method not available to us is to look at the badging on the trunklid! :)

Of course, it could have had a 350 V8 transplant!

Still looking for someone to share with me easy instructions for posting pictures here ...
