There's a third way for id'ing that '68 Dodge Charger engine, but it involves a bit of cheating.
:D Right clicks and "properties" is definitely cheating but in this case the size of the engine is not given, but I think we can assume that it is not a 383. :) I had one in a 1966 Dodge Monaco (great car but not speedy 0-60).

    I know the picture ID says '68, but the grill's not a '68, could be a '67?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,144
Went to the web site - it's a '66, only $125,000 :surprise: :surprise: :surprise: :surprise:

    But it looks cool:

Wild guess: Some kind of Ghia bodied Chrysler? :confuse:

I think you're right about the Ghia body but I think it's on a Fiat Otto Vu (8V) ca. mid 50s.

Yes, 1954 Ghia 'Supersonic'. I hadn't heard of the 8Vs before -- pretty interesting stuff.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yeah, Fiat used the term 8V because they thought that Ford held a trademark on "V8".

Yeah, but I have a RT decal on my minivan. Just above the nitrous one where the schraeder valve sticks out of the front fender.. :shades:

Looks like this is what they need to do with all the crossovers that are replacing minivans.

    Well....

The background scene is obviously French (the 2CV, the van, the trees, the headlights, the plates), but the car in question has an "American Wannabee" style, so it couldn't possibly be French (or German) ;) .

I'm purely guessing it's either British or Russian, but I can't make out the chrome lettering above the waterfall grille.

    What is it?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
The taxi is a Simca - the large one was -in some markets - known as the Vedette, carried over from the Ford France offering, but they also made a really basic thing, with Vedette body and Aronde engine, which I think was called something like Arienne. As this is a taxi, I would imagine it is one of those. Apart from that I can only see the 2cv and the large van which is some sort of Renault.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
That's it Magnette, the taxi is a Simca Ariane, one of the most popular cars in France at the time the picture was taken.

If the car resembles a mid-1950s Ford it's because Simca took over Ford's French subsidiary, Ford SAF in 1954. Ironically Chrysler began buying into Simca as Ford divested gaining full control in 1963.

    Really? Nobody knows the van?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
It's kinda hard to see that van because the open door blocks the view of it. Nevertheless I'll take a stab as it looks a bit like this Brubaker Box (especially considering you can read the name on the windsheild header);P

Yes, but remember this was late '60s SoCal - no telling what Brubaker was using for inspiration...

Porsche 911 varient. Early one (late 60's?) frm the look of it, although the steering wheel looks slightly 914ish?

    67? Pontiac GTO
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Sorry Jbolt, it's not a GTO, it's a '67 Tempest LeMans. The giveaway is the vertical gills on the flank just ahead of the rear wheels. These appear on LeMans of the era but not on GTOs, sometimes they are behind the front wheels, other times, ahead of the rear wheels.

The engine badge on the front fender also appears in a different location on Goats, usually behind the front wheel cutout.

Ferrari 330 GT circa 1964/66 - they originally had double headlights, like this one,but the model was revised to single lights towards the end of production.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yep, IIRC it was sometimes called the 330 GT America, most folks consider the four-h/l version ugly but I prefer it to the later two h/l cars.

About a '79 450SLC - don't know why, but I always liked those window louvers. Their taper from bottom to top matches the overall window design, unlike a similar trim on the first Fox-based Mustangs (ramble, ramble...)

    Here's a (striking!) example
    image
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,591
    Yay, an easy one.

MB R107 coupe of some kind, as it has US bumpers and bundts, likely a 1977+ 450SLC.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    I'll guess on the year - 1980?

I had an 81' Ghia. Not the best car I've owned.

You like that graphic on the hood? :confuse:
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    flabby muscle? :P
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,144
Close, source says it's a '79. And I said 'striking', not 'good looking' - I guess Ford was competing with the Firebird T/A's bird on the hood.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,591
When I was a little kid - maybe 4 or 5, a woman a few doors down had a yellow Fox body Mustang with T-tops. At the time I thought it was just an awesome car. I remember going over and looking at it a couple times. I remember around 1983-84 she got rid of it and bought a Mazda 626 coupe. That disappointed me, although I am sure it was a better car.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Gotcha. I don't mind those louvres, either, but the ones on the rear glass were a bit much.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I never liked those models of MB (450SLC). Seemed kind off odd in proportions, and those louvers acutally annoy me.

I wonder if anyone ever removed those on an SLC. I'm sure it's doable as there is a full window behind them.

'74 Pontiac GTO (oh, the shame...) At least it had a V8 (200HP), and could be had with a 4 speed.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,660
Just a badge version of the Ventura. But I did like the hatchback version of the Nova clones.

Funny thing is, I always liked that version of the GTO. Pretty much all muscle was illusionary by that time, and at least this was a manageble size and somewhat attractive.
