    UGH! MMMM! Nice. Man want!

Hubcaps do suggest a 1952. Maybe a Super. Not a Roadmonster.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
It's a '52 Super, you can see where they've reduced the amount of wood trim dramatically
but still managed to create a very "woody" look.

Rover 3500 (with the hand-me-down, alloy Buick V8)

    The sedan looks WAY better.

Is the wagon a factory job, or one of them aftermarket "shooting brake" conversions?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yep it's the Rover with a wagon conversion from Crayford, the same outfit that did the same on some Astons, Rollers and Bentleys.

The photo is captioned "Rover P6 Estate" but that appears to be a V8 badge on the front of the hood so I suspect you're right about it being powered by the aluminum 3.5 Rover-Buick motor. Oddly the hood seems to lack the scoops seen on the 3500 models.

I don't know if I agree about the sedan looking better, it wasn't exactly a beauty Queen. ;)

    ! Le Citroen Quelquechose 2.5

    Whadd he say? :confuse:

The car is a DS21 ca. 1971, it's amazing how contemporary that front end looks.

It says it's a Rambler on the hood, and the plate and side repeaters make it non-US, so some South American AMC thing?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,545
That's a Dutch plate, and I know Ramblers were sold on the Euro market in the 60s, so some kind of Euro market Rambler.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
You're on the right track, it's a Renault Rambler ca. mid 60's. These were made mostly from exported US parts that were assembled at a Renault-owned plant in Belgium.

I can't imagine the impact the Citroen DS had on the world when it debuted in 1955.

It must have seemed like a complete spacehip to people accustomed to acres of chrome, fins, V8s, body-on-frame construction, rear wheel drive and three-box sedans. :surprise:
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
    Yep, Jowett Javelin it is.

Karsick you are correct the Citroen DS blew everyone's mind and did indeed seem like a spaceship. Unfortunately that includes the mechanics and dealers who were supposed to maintain them.

Could be, or it could be a '68 or '68 :confuse:,
    maybe Andre can tell.

The car next to the '61 Coupe is a '62 or '63 Tempest.

Yeah I know about a dozen words in french and that was one of them. My boss had a lot of Citroens back in the late 60s through mid 70s he always like them at least untill the hydraulic suspension failed.

Early 70s toyota pick up. My mom has a 1979 model one of those that is just slithtly larger.

I need a truck like that around here. Ok, here's one - after you guess the make and year, guess the mileage:

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
The blue Accord Hatch is an '80 or '81 model, I had a '79 with a different grille.

It's obviously a low mileage car and perhaps it was rustproofed aftermarket like mine , otherwise
it never left the garage. ;)

    SVO Mustang!

I'm gonna guess it's an '86, since the earlier versions didn't have the cool, faired-in "euro lights" that were just appearing in the mid-80's in the US.

I REALLY liked these 4-cyl turbo alternatives to the V8 GT, and now they're becoming a collectible.

They shared the 2.3L motor with the Merkur, but I recall the SVO had more power.

    Nice pic. :)

'84-ish Ford Sierra turbo? (I don't think the Cosworths were around yet.)
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Sorry Bumpy, Karsick is correct, it's an '86 SVO 'Stang.

and...a Fiat and a Rolls... No idea as to model or year. BTW, the Jag seems to be burning oil.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Now that would be unusual wouldn't it... ;)

hey hey hey! That's just the, er...uh, Exhaust Lubrication System. It keeps the inside of the exhaust from rusting and a leaky rear main seal keeps the outside of the exhaust from rusting. So lay off ;-)
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
That's just a City of London Mosquito Abatement Vehicle. Jaguar gave them a fleet price.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Very good - it's a 1981 Honda Accord LX.

"According to the owner "this car was purchased in Minnesota on Friday [May 25, 2007] with 1,900 original miles. It was driven back to PA yesterday [May 26, 2007] which added 1,200 miles..."

"...It averaged 33 mpg on the trip @ 75 mph (gas mileage may improve as the engine is broken in). The car is entirely original except for oil changes and a new battery."

Good morning. Good to see another still from the Sweeney.... It's pretty difficult to see anything on the lousy monitor at work, but the yellow van to the extreme left is a Commer one-ton, although it was sometimes sold as a Dodge ( this was of course part of the Chrysler UK group). The yellow colour means it belonged to British Telecom, and they were commonly known as Busby vans, after a character in a TV ad campaign for B Telecom at the time. They bought thousands of these vans and some of them were still being brought into service as late as the early eighties, and even now they are still chugging round with subsequent owners...
The red Fiat is an 850, the Jag is an early XJ6, if the reg is correct it was a 68/69 model, so even then it was an old car, and probably got crashed at the end of the chase sequence which seemed to occur every week, as they wouldn't have used a good one. Beyond the Rolls/Bentley, I can make out a light blue Ford Escort MK11, I think I can make out a white Morris Marina a few cars beyond that, and on the right, I would guess that the white car facing away from the camera is a Citroen GS. Oh, I think the car following might be a Ford Cortina MK111.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
    Wow, pretty good magnette.

I hoever think that the light blue car is a Fiat 131 because the bumpers look like the black plasticky that were used on many cars in early 80s.

Unless this show is from the 70s, then I'm wrong.

The programme was apparently made in 1978, and the Ford Escort Mk II was available from early 1976 with plain painted bumpers (fenders), as an Escort Popular, usually in either white, yellow or pale blue, and as it was very common then - especially the stripped economy model, then I think that is what we have here.

  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
    Renault R5 Turbo rally car.

I think they were mid engined in rally form.

Yup mid engined I just found this short article on them.

    R5 Turbo
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
It resembles a LeCar because it is based on the Renault R5, which was called LeCar only in the US.

Didn't they sell a few of the turbos in the US? And, IIRC, they pretty much gutted the R5, rebuilt the rear with the engine back there. A pretty impressive machine (unlike the R5).
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Read the article I posted. A hundred or so turbo R5s did come to the us.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,138
Wow-first time I've seen the Yugo ranked better than last! Thanks for the link. I always wondered-how did we get this parade of terrible Renaults here, while they were winning races with their tubo'd cars there?
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
"Read the article I posted. A hundred or so turbo R5s did come to the us."

Yes, but they were gray-market cars. Renault never officially imported the R5 Turbo. All US R5 Turbos were converted to US spec by individuals or import companies and not Renault.
