Saab 96 wagon I think, probably V4...although that rear window makes me think I might have been fooled as to model. :shades:

    Sorry Shifty it's a Saab 95 (pre-V4).

Looks like it is parked between a couple of Triumphs, so maybe one of those?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
    Nope, not a Triumph.

Yep. 2006 Q45, the last year for the Q since the M45 made it superfluous.

The Old Brit is a 1947 Sunbeam-Talbot that's part of a Majarajah's collection in India. If you look really closely at the Fog lamp covers they each say "Sunbeam Talbot". ;)

    Talbot Samba?

The wheels & arches have a Peugeot look to them, but the grille doesn't.

    That's because it's a 1977 Citroen LN, a virtual clone of the Peugeot 104.

Chinese knock-off of a Sky coupe?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
I can't remember exactly what the orange car is... it's a Mexican made sports coupe called something like Massera MTX...something like that.

Whatever it is, it's (IMHO) overwrought, ghastly, heavy-handed, hey-look-at-me, extroverted, kit-car-ish and not my cup o'tea.

I'm sure there'll be plenty who want to own one, given the sales of blinged-out Avalanches, two-tone 300C's and the demand for $300k yellow Lambo ragtops.

    TVR Griffith?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Oh yeah, I think that is the car with NO DRIVESHAFT---the transmission connects to the differential with merely a large u-joint!!

It's either this car or the Cheetah that has this unique feature.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,143
Might that have something to do with the article's comment that these cars were practically undriveable?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I would imagine that you steer with the gas pedal, which is a fun thing to maste on grossly overpowered, short wheelbase cars, but takes some getting used to. You can practice on a Sunbeam Tiger or an Austin Healey converted to V8 power or some such...oh, a cobra 427 would be another.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
I knew someone who had a TVR Grantura, which was basically the same car but with a 1798cc MG engine, and that was a bit of a handful in the wet, involving unscheduled trips into the scenery on roundabouts....

I dread to think how you drive a car like this with a monster engine....
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
with courage man, like a rally car driver.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
    Yep it's a TVR-Griffith ca. 1964-5.

My cousin had a TVR 2500M which is the same car with a TR-6 engine. I thought it handled like a dream.

It looks like TVR may come back from the dead.

That's the article I got my comment from:

"Unfortunately, with a wheelbase of just 85.5 inches and suspension, brakes and rear end scarcely changed from the four-cylinder car, the Griffith 200 was badly balanced and hard to control. To make matters worse, the cars overheated and the tremendous torque of their engines often broke axles, causing wheels to fly off. Even with all four wheels attached, Griffiths were nearly uncontrollable. "

Article Pic looks different than the 2500M - did they keep the same chassis?
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
    '67 Tempest?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
so the axles broke and the wheels flew off---whiners!

According to this, the M chassis was better.

OTOH the Griffith, Vixen and 2500 all look very much alike.

Since this is from the most famous movie chase ever I'm going to ask not only for YMM of the car and the name of the actor but also how about the name of his character, the CID of the engine under that hood>

You're car guys, you know this. Extra points for the brand of aftermarket alloy wheels on the car. ;)

Steve McQueen, Ford Mustang. Guessing on the year, 1967 fastback?

Don't remember the name of the character, though.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,143
    American Racing rims?
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,405
    He was Lt. Frank Bullitt.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Youse are doing good, even got the correct wheel brand (IIRC) but what's under Det. Bullitt's hood?

    Wild guess - 350?
  • jbolltjbollt Member Posts: 736
I believe it's a 68, as that was the first year of the side marker lights.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,143
    Windsor or Cleveland 351?
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,405
It's a 390 under the hood of Bullitt's Highland Green 1968 Ford Mustang GT :shades:
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
I think you're right about the side lights. It's funny I always remembered it as a '67, maybe because I remember almost buying a '67 390 fastback.

    IIRC Bullitt's car was 390 powered. Ford didn't have a 350 but they had a 351.

Kudos to Tmart, he even got the color right. ;)

If I remember correctly it was a 390 under the hood as, at that point, that was the largest you could get (in that year Mustang).

    * Side note - Was it that all 390 ci Mustangs with automatic transmissions received the GTA badge, or was that a specific package? I can't remember.

I wonder if the photo was taken in 1972 when McQueen was running from the Anchorage cops. He got arrested:

    Brodies

(Actually he was recklessly driving an Oldsmobile Toronado while intoxicated).

My Guess is a 1963 Buick Riviera, however, it is strange that a "high end" car as the Riveria wouldn't have obvious A/C vents.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,606
In '63 or thereabouts, A/C was far from universal even in high-end cars. I'm pretty sure that it was still optional even in the top end cars like Cadillac and Lincoln.

2009 BMW 335i, 2003 Corvette cnv. (RIP 2001 Jaguar XK8 cnv and 1985 MB 380SE [the best of the lot])

I think the vents are above the radio, but I could be wrong.

Are we sure that is Riviera? I was thinking an Executive..
