Just poke my eyes out with knitting needles. Grotesque is too kind a word for the Cadillac The designer of that car needs a "Proud to be Talentless" bumper sticker on his college diploma. Yuck.

Was it Eldorado Biarritz? Looks nice. It's more elegant in this pearl color.

You just have too appreciate it for its over the topness like a the Evil Dead horror movie series.

Years ago I saw a Eldo like that in a car show. It was wrecked at one point and left abandoned for 30 some odd years. The people that found it were into the whole pro-street movement.

They tubbed it but a roll cage in it sort of although it was kind of funny without a roof. There was some enormous mountain motor in it and I think a 10-71 blower sticking through the hood.

It was stupid fast but you couldn't race it on any real drag strip because it was a convertible and the safety equipment was not up to snuff.

Must disagree. A 1959 Cadillac convertible would make my top 10 list of the most beautiful cars ever produced, anywhere. It was the epitome of the chrome and tail fin era. Gorgeously gaudy. A behemoth cruiser like no other.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Nah, it's laughably bad on every level to me at least. It's incompetent as a car, (hard to argue with that) it's ugly as a design,(subjective) and it's humiliating as a cultural symbol (unless you really LIKE Graceland!). It makes me kind of sick to look at it actually. A low point in American automotive history IMHO.

Actually those cars represented American culture at the time.

Which is why import sales skyrocketed in the 60's.

    TR2 Coopay?
  • chuck1959chuck1959 Member Posts: 654
I thought the Imperial were sold under "Imperial" not Chrsyler division Like the Mark III was sold as "Continentals" and not Lincolns.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
    TR2 Coopay

Close enough, it was known as the TR2 Coupe Francorchamps. It was commissioned by the Belgian importer of Triumph. 22 were made and sold in the early 50's. The name comes from the famous race course in the Ardennes, Spa Francorchamps.

1966 Plymouth of some sort. Maybe a Belvedere or Satellite. The wheels are definitely not stock, IMHO. Where Furys still around?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
IIRC Furies were still around in '66 but on the full-sized body, that's a '66 Satellite on the mid-sized body and I think those wheels were a factory option, or possibly from a later year..

Thats gotta be a 67 Chevy Chevelle Malibu (SS?) "4 on the floor" ...with an add-on tach on the left of the dash...and apparently, with disc brakes, power windows, and tilt wheel, and without A/C. My wife had one when we got married....although it was in far worse shape.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
You've got it, I don't think it's an SS as the website I took it from says only that it's a "'67 Maliobu Sport Coupe, since it's For Sale I think they'd mention if it was an SS. the car has a 327/325 under the hood so it's got plenty of go.

It should be there now. Don't need your glasses. I put it in my photobucket...
Somehow the original location wouldn't let it link.

Wild guess, but I seem to remember something that looked like this being called a Glas. But I could be all wet.

Bitter - based on Opel floorpan...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
The Ford Wagon is indeed a Ford Squire. The more basic version (without the wooden strakes on the side) was sold here as the Ford Escort (!) years before Ford used the name for the small car which was their great Euro best seller.

These were obviously based originally on the Ford Anglia/Prefect range, with the Escort being fitted with the Anglia grille, etc, but the van version (and the pick-up) were marketed as Ford Thames, and indeed this applied to all the Ford vans of the time, with the larger trucks being known as the Thames Trader. ( Dagenham - where all these vehicles were built, is in East London on the banks of the Thames ). I think in some markets the van range was actually sold as the Thames - possibly where Ford USA had a different network, or maybe Ford Germany etc...
The van didn't have any Ford badging - it just had a Thames badge on front and rear, at least at first...

    Thanks, Imidazol.

Magnette is correct, the car is a Bitter CD based on the Opel Diplomat so it is sometimes called the Bitter CD Diplomat. Erich Bitter cranked out 325 of these from '73-'79. They were powered by Chevy 327s which is odd because IIRC Chevy stopped using the 327 after '67 or so.

That can only be a Frua-bodied Glas 3000. Did you have to post that before I had breakfast? Has Pietro Frua ever made a truly attractive car in his life?
  • urnewsurnews Member Posts: 668
Fine-looking piece of machinery. Other than it being a BMW, I don't have a clue. But, judging by the bumpers and side-marker lights I would guess that it is from the early to mid 1970s.

    "You mentioned Glas before...that's a BMW-Glas "

Yes, I did. That's what made me go looking for what a Glas realy looked like. I kinda gave it away, but still an interesting vehicle. I hadn't realized that Glas was purchased by BMW.

    It's a 1968 BMW Glas 3000GT.

    Here's another earlier model:

That looks like the Glas 1700GT....not too bad, not too bad...looks like a Porsche 911 that has its nose pulled :P

Guess I'll take the big red box down and cross that site off my list of places to visit.

Too bad, nice looking ride except for the Mexican butterfly fishing net grill.

    You rang?

Frua also did the original Q-porte and the Monteverdi 375 as well as the AC 428, all very attractive cars. Methinks the horrid Glas 3000 was the exception.
