I know I did right after I posted that.

It's the new Alfa Spider that's headed for the US at your local Maserati dealer in '09 or '10. [Do you have a local Maser dealer, I don't?]

The dark blue roadster is a Spitfire MkIII, ca. 1970 sounds about right. ;)

1950s GM product, probably a Pontiac or Oldsmobile, maybe even a Caddy. Upholstery doesn't look original though.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
It's a '54 Cadillac Fleetwood. The upholstery doesn't look original to me either, it seems to me it's color should match the rest of the interior.

It's a good reminder of how lousy car seats were back in the bench seat era though. Spending two or three hours in that seat is a sentence!

Is that the little, suped-up Renault (who's name escapes me) with the V6 moved to the back?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
    the little, suped-up Renault

    I don't think so, here's
the engine room of the Renault Spider. The Mystery engine is from a Hatchback. not a Roadster, You can see the strut that supports the hatch.

At the moment the only mid-engined hatches that come to mind are the Po :confuse: rsche Cayman and the Gen II Toyota MR2.

You can't access the Cayman engine through the hatch like that...

I second the Renault thing... Is that an R5? The souped up version of the LeCar, with the engine behind the seats?

Thanks kyfdx - Renault R5 was the name of the suped up Renault hatch I was thinking of.

I think that's what this is.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
    We have a winner!

Take a rather unremarkable compact, rip out the back, and drop in a Nissan VQ30DE.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136
Same idea as the R5, but that one looks much cleaner than the R5.

    The infamous SHOGun...

... a Ford Festiva (Mazda 121 / Kia Pride) with a Ford (well, Yamaha) 24V V6 stuffed into the hindquarters. :P

    Good call.

I tried to get a picture of Jay Leno's SHOgun but all of the his pics were to easy to identify.

    Porsche 356 Convertible D?

    Porsche 356 Convertible D?

    I was hoping you'd say that. :P

It's a 1960 356B Roadster, distiguished from the earlier ('59) Convertible D mainly by it's T-5 bodywork with the higher bumpers.

More about them here and here.

Also convertible D windshield post is body color.

The rarest roadster is the "twin grille" type, worth a LOT of money today.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,531
Hmm well at least I didn't say Cabrio, I know that distinction.

    I wonder if this thing:

    Is one of those.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
GEEZ, that looks like a chopped coupe!
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,531
Here's another shot....I am pretty sure it was real (crude phone photo, I know)

Also convertible D windshield post is body color.

Not according to Keith Martin who says both the Convertible D and Roadster had removable windsheilds with chromed frames>

    1959 Convertible D by Drauz:
    image

I agree that the Roadster looks like a chopped coupe that's why the Drauz is my favorite 356 droptop. It has just the right balance of sportiness and elegance.

Fin, I think your photo is a Roadster, note the bumpers.

He doesn't know anything about Porsches...he's an Alfa nut!

Actually I think he may be right. I think the regular CABS had the painted windshield frame, not the D.

Bathtub Porsches are tricky because they made lots of mid-year and mid-production changes even within a series. The roadsters for instance have two different windshield frames, early and late.

Alfa Romeo, spider? Guiletto something? Anyone speak Italian around here? :D

Probably late 60s is my guess.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
It's an Alfa Spider alright but not a Guilietta and definitely not a late '60s model.

    It's a late 50's Alfa Sprint 2000.

That's right, it's the Third Gen of the Honda Legend (as it's known in most of the world* but to us it was the first Acura RL.

Those are Volgas made by GAZ, not sure of the model name.

The funny thing is these cars were made sin ce the 70s, with same overall shape, only receiving a fac elift to make it look modern.

Yep the model name is GAZ 3110 Volga. They look to me like late 60's Audis with Lancia grilles.

    That's a Ford Escort, I believe.

Those were sold in Brazil, i.e. they got the euro style models rather than the US-style model.

A neighbor in my building had an XR3 convertible, it was actually quite nice. Far more upscale than the US Escort.

Year must be 1986 or so.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Yep, it's an XR3 Cabrio The ad doesn't give the year but I'm guessing early-mid 90's.

Magnette can probably tell from the plate.

59 (from the plate) Studebaker Lark 6 wagon?

    Educated guess.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Re the Escort cabrio, the G prefix on the plate indicates the year commencing 1st August 1989.

just a wag, but a 64 or so Dodge Polara convertible?

*edit - although I think the polara was typically larger than this. Looks more Dart sized, but I don't remember them quite looking like that. Though I'm not much of a mopar fan to know.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
That looks like a 1966 Dodge Dart convertible.

Sorry Kev, that's no Polara it's a '66 Dart, just like the man sez. ;)
