Nice motor - at first I thought it was an AC Aceca, but on reflection I think this is a Frazer Nash.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Well I'm having a good day if I can get one past Magnette;).

It's a 1949-50 Talbot T26 Oblin. In all fairness there were so many coachbuilders putting bodies on those Talbots (the Ferraris of the immediate postwar era) that each looked different from the others.

Looks like an International Travelall, I guess maybe a 1960 model judging by the front end. Earlier ones had stacked quad lights.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Well, that was a good one - somehow the styling looked very British, somehow, and I must admit I wouldn't recognise a Talbot from that era, except from the front...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Very impressive, Lemko it is a '60 Travelall.

Uh...1954 Buick Special Riviera hardtop? I'm sure it's a Special as it only has three VentiPorts per fender.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,700
It's a 1954 Buick. It's not a Roadmaster (4 ports) and the name on the side looks like Super. Was the low line Special or Century that year?

Edit: I see lemko posted while I was checking Wikipedia.

Well you're both partly right. It's a '54 Riviera Super

Mazda2. Supposedly we may get a Brazilian-built Ford derivative in a few years.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
I guess they went to four VentiPorts per side on Buicks other than the Special later. I remember seeing pictures of both the Century and Super having four per side like the Roadmaster.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
I think the Ford Version is called the Ka.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Geeze, I hope they don't go all the way down to a low-powered Mazda1 or else they'll have to change their television ads from a Reggae singer warbling "Zoom-zoom-zoom!" to a droning Ben Stein voice saying "putt-putt-putt."
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Three ports for all models except the Roadmonster in 1954.

How IRONIC--I was just inspecting a '54 Buick 2D hardtop yesterday! This one had a Century ID on it but a Special VIN plate, so some monkey business going on there. The Century was a Special with the larger Roadmaster engine. Not too much difference in value however.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
All the Ka's I've seen had two-doors (well, three with the hatch I guess). I guess Ford's city car is growing?
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...in the 1950s when Buick dispensed with the Venti-Ports: 1958-59. They were revived in 1960.

The guy who came up with the Venti-Ports idea had colored lights in them wired to the distributor that flashed when a particular cylinder fired. I'm surprised no aftermarket manufacturer revived this feature for bling factor.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    It's not tasteless enough!
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Naah, the Fiesta is the platform mate, about the size of a Yaris. The Ka is a fair bit smaller, but the 1.6L in the SportKa makes it fun.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Ah ok I wasn't sure if it was the Ka or Fiesta.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425

Probably because it would be illegal? Plus, it would just look like a set of strobe lights at anything more than 2 or 3 miles per hour.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
They have those light up valve stem caps now.

Custom motorcycles a lot of time have an ignition generated light that fires whenever the spark plug lights up.

Is that the dreaded (and dreadful) 219?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
    Nope, not a 219 but a Mercedes-Benz 180
(W120 in Benzspeak) from a few years earlier
(1953-'62), D-Bs first postwar passenger car design IIRC, you could've bought one at a Studebaker-Packard Dealer from '58 to '62.

Ah okay. It takes a sharp eye to tell a 180 from a 190, and a 219 has the same body as a 190. So I can see where I got fooled.

    Late 1960s Datsun?
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Yep, it's the frumpy mid-60s Datsun 510, versus the fun late-60s 510 that came after it.

You're thinking of the Bluebird/510/1800 but the photos is of a Datsun Sunny/310/1300, ca.'69.

Re the Mercedes Benz 180 ponton, the licence plate is from Sri Lanka
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Well, I'm going to have a go at these, but I'm pretty ropey on your side of the pond....

    Left hand first car is a Packard, I'm guessing a 400, 1955
Behind that a Pontiac ( 1952 ? - I think I can see little vertical bits of chrome under the centre bar of the grille)
Third car might be a Willys Aero, I think - told you I wasn't good on these..
On the right - Chevrolet Biscayne 1958
Ahead of that some sort of early 50's Chrysler (?)
Oncoming car is obscured by it's headlights, but I'm guessing 49/50 Ford
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Oh that's fun. I see a '56 ?? Packard, '58 Chevy, a 50s Chevy/Pontiac with visor, some rear end of a Plymouth or Dodge or Chrysler, then maybe a 50 Olds rear end ?? and a Blue 50s Ford on the left...not sure what's coming at us...maybe a Hudson?

That neighborhood looks chillingly familiar somehow....

Way down on the right is a fat-butt white car...wonder what that is?
  • urnewsurnews Member Posts: 668
Guessing here, but the car on left looks like a 1957 (?) Packard and the car on the right is definitely a 1958 Chevy, probably a Del Ray because it is not an Impala. Is the car behind the Packard a 1950 Ford?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
NO way on '57 Packard...those were Studebakers...has to be earlier....you could be right about the Ford.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
I think you've done pretty well but I doubt that's a Willys, more likely it's a Dodge or Plymouth. The oncoming car is a Hudson (ca. '52 although that's hard to tell.

The car behind the early MoPar coupe is definitely an early 50's Buick.

FYI, Shifty, the neighborhood where much of Diner was shot is Fells Point, near the Baltimore waterfront.

Yup, you're right. It has to be either a 1955 or more likely a 1956.

    Mustang. 1967

Either that or a '68, I can't tell from that little bit.

Ah yeah the scene had that dismal grim east coast "time has passed us by" look of the 1960s rust belt. Now of course I imagine it's all "lofts" and Starbucks.

The mustang is a 67, as the 68's had the side marker lights
