    It's a Pinzsauer (sp?) something or other 4x4. :D
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,129
Pinzgauer (of course) 710? Hard to tell the year. I didn't realize they were sold by Steyer-Daimler-Puch (Austria) to a British firm. IIRC, David E Davis of C/D loved 'em. Here's the Wiki blurb:
Pinzgauer is a high mobility all-terrain 4x4 and 6x6 military utility vehicle manufactured in Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom, by Automotive Technik (ATL). ATL has been manufacturing the Pinzgauer since the year 2000. Before then the Pinzgauer was produced by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Graz, Austria (hence the name, based on an Austrian breed of horse). ATL has since then been acquired by Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc. in 2005, which in turn became a subsidiary of the aerospace and defence group Armor Holdings, Inc in May 2006. One year later Armor Holdings was itself acquired by BAE Systems.

Yep, that's the Austrian-made version, a '76 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer. I see one occasionally around here. It's really something to see around town.

Apparently they can make a Hummer H1 look clumsy on bad ground.

This looks a bit like that Ligier we had a few weeks back, but I think it is something different - is it a Saab Sonnet? ( Still looks French, though)
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
Someone near where I live runs round in one of these - I think it is ex British Army, but I have never seen it close up, so I haven't had a good look. Our Army has a number of these, so I sometimes see a few on the road - probably recent ones (ie built in Uk, rather than overseas ones).
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
Could that be an Opel GT, probably about 1969?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
No those outside hood hinges tell me it's a very small company with limited resources.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
Ok then - Apal ? or Sovam ?
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Now that's the sort of Buick I could seen in without shame. I could skip the Geritol and the daily trips to the drug store, too.

    Here's one that's for sale, $11,500-

I could be way off, but in Brazil they used to sell a kit car based on a VW chassis that was called the "Puma".

It kinds looked like that, at least a little.

Hint-long lost relative of the DeLorean :confuse:

Hint-long lost relative of the DeLorean

Well it is Renault-powered but it's perhaps a closer relative of the New Brunswick-built Bricklin SV. The 1969-1975 Manic GT was built in Granby PQ, Canada. It was based on the Renault 10.

Yes, a Bricklin location, but the story's a bit like DeLorean-young guy gets idea to build a sports car, gets govt. to chip in, goes with rear engine Renault power, goes belly up (don't they all?).

That looks like a '70-'71 Firebird...

I don't remember Jim driving one quite that old... I think his oldest was a '74?

Yeah the show first aired in '74 and like a lot of TV folks he got a new one every year. The car in my pic is a '71.

Dodge 600 or Plymouth Caravelle, I can't recall the difference
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
That's a Plymouth Caravelle. The Dodge 600 had a slat grill like the Aries. There once was a Renault sports roadster called a Caravelle.

    I'm a' gona guess International Travelall, 195...um...195....2!! No...51! No...'49!

Okay I just don't know what year...
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
International Harvester Travelall. I'll guess '54.

My dad took an early 60's model on a long weekend test drive to our fish camp when I was around 8 or 10. He complained that it drove too much like a truck (d'oh). Maybe that's why I stuck with minivans over SUVs.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Truth be told it's kinda hard to tell the year on those things, it's the original Traveall as it appeared in the '53 & '54 MYs.

They always were nasty beasts to drive, that's true. Your dad was right. More like a logging truck than an SUV.

    1971 Mercury Capri

Not exactly, the lack of side marker lights should have tipped you off that it wasn't the US model badged as a Mercury. It is in fact the UK version, a '72 Ford Capri, 2.0 Mk 1

The (2.3) V6 Shifty referred to was optional in the US. The standard engine was a gutless 1.6. IIRC the 1.6L cars were built in Dagenham UK while the 2.3s came from Koln, W Germany.

I assume the 2.0 was a bored out version of the 1.6.
