Wouldn't the small, round marker lights indicate that this is a '68?

I think you're right, this cars listed as "Bob's 1968 Dodge Dart GTS 383" on this Dart pic web site:

I imagine you're right, the site I took it from had it labelled under '68-'69. That's what I get for being picky.

Just a little more on the VW:

That one would be a 1984 or newer model (twin wipers!), and, given the factory bodykit, a top-spec version (in the US, that was the 16V).

They sure look better with those slim euro-bumpers and headlights.

My brother & I both had Sciroccos. Nice cars (lots of small issues), but still nice cars for their time.

Bentley Brooklands, a coupe for the owner who finds the Continental GT just too common (and in certain blocks of Mayfair, Kensington & Chelsea, that could a real issue :surprise: )
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    LOL, yes it's a Brooklands.

It's also the top of the line Platinum series of the '09 F-150. It's got a few retro touches to it.

Actually should be out very shortly. Production began in January.

Not bad, it's a Dart GT Sport, these came standard with a 383 and a three
-on the-tree but could be optioned up to a 383 with a Hurst 4-on-the-floor. Surely the most desireable Dart ever made.

The GTS came standard with a 340-4bbl smallblock putting out 275 hp. There was a 6-pack option that put out 290, IIRC. These engines were severely under-rated too, partly because of insurance concerns, but also, if their true hp figures got out, it would probably make some of the big-blocks redundant. For instance, when it converted to net hp, it was still putting out about 245 hp, a paper reduction of only about 11%. Most engines, in doing the jump from gross to net, lost more like 25-35%.

I think they tried sticking a 383 in the '67 Dart, but it wasn't that successful. It got choked down in the process, really didn't put out that much power for its size, but did add a lot of weight. I could be wrong, but I don't think they offered the 383 in the Dart for '68.

In its place, for 1968 you could get a 440 in the GTS, and something like 50-75 of them were actually ordered with the 426 Hemi! It stickered for about $4,000 new, which might sound like a lot of money for a Dart. However, I had a well-optioned up '69 Dart GT hardtop, with just a 225 slant six. It came with a bunch of old paperwork, among them a paper showing the original MSRP of around $3600!

    Toyota Previa.

If I could have afforded one back in ~1989, I probably would still be driving it. The Voyager that was $1,000's less was toast after a decade.

The Previa had lousy crash test results and just one slider (as did my Voyager), and occasional SAD shaft issues, but they have a reputation for being one of the most reliable cars out there. Friends up north are still driving the AWD one they got new.

All the sites say the Previa wasn't sold in the US until '91 but I could swear I shopped them back when I got my 1989 Voyager. Maybe I was just reading about them.

This is a Saab Sonnett - the original one, so late 50's, I think - we didn't get the Sonnett, not even the later one, so it is a real rarity here...
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
Correct, from what I read they only made six of these version 1s in about '57. Quite a change for the later ones.

MA (a Boston neighborhood) but I looked it up and according to IMDB, the primary location for Lolita was Albany NY>.

    1986-ish US-spec Audi 5000 Avant Quattro with 2000-ish A4 Sport Package wheels.
Nice car that got an unfair rap by idiots on TV's "60 minutes" who have no mechanical aptitude whatsoever (as if you wanted my opinion :P )

Car is notable for serving as Ford's benchmark for the Taurus/Sable.

    MMMmmmmm Audi!!! :shades: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7QUlAnjMGPA
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Close, it happens to be a 5000 CS Turbo Avant Quattro. I'm not sure those are the same wheels the A4 SP used but they are similar.

    I'm a big fan of Audi's Avants.

There are two possibilities for this one...

It appears to be a British spec Chrysler Alpine, but they later sold this for a while as the Talbot Alpine, for about a year.
    Late 70's.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep, it's a Talbot Alpine, essentially a rebadged Simca 1307 IIRC.

It's a Tatra T603 on the far right.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The black car is a Tatra 603
Blue - Moskvitch -412 or thereabouts
    White - Volga M24
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The Alpine was the British market - indeed British assembled - version of the Simca 1307, and the car was never sold here as a Simca, I believe.

Yep, projected for US sale in 2010, this truck is interesting on a several levels:

It's made in India, should deliver 30-35 mpg, even better in the planned diesel-electric hybrid version.

And when was the last time a car or truck used a place name from East of the Mississippi? ;)

I think I read over in Straightline that final assembly (20 - 25%?) of the Mahindra Appalachian will be done in Ohio to avoid the Chicken Tax.

Yeah I heard the same but I also heard that the price is going to be in the 20,000 dollar range and that ain't going to cut it unless that is the price for the diesel hybrid that gets 50+ mpg.

They need to be able to offer the regular diesel with a manual for less then 20,000 dollars.

Oh the car above is the Jetta Sportwagen

Nope, not a Jetta, the 2009 VW Golf Variant, NSH.
