Your eyesight is a lot better than mine Tex! I can't even see the speedo or do you mean the center grouping of instruments above the barely visible chrome script?
1979 Electra coupe. Can't quite make out the interior seat trim, but it looks like it might be upscale, like a Limited or Park Ave edition. That sunroof must have been pretty rare for a car that old.
YES!!! I had a four-door Park Avenue in Charcoal Gray Firemist and a silver top like that one!!! Mine had the 403 V-8!!! Good God, what an awesome car!
The cars look too big to be Chevrolets, and I'm sure they're not 1939 Buicks because they had a strange low grille. They can't be 1941 Buicks because the headlights were well incorporated into the front fenders that year, so my guess is they are 1940 Buicks.
That's interesting but don't forget we also have a rule about one-offs and concept cars. In any case I find myself wondering if that isn't Crosley-based ( notwithstanding the tricycle wheels.
I for one would be willing to waive the prohibition on pre-war vehicles as well as concept cars, customs and one-offs providing they are clearly labeled as such. What say you?
This one fails the rule on production numbers... It is the Martin made in 1950 ( I think this one was called the `Stationette ) - they made another in 1948, although only a single one in each case... Made in New York state, and had a Continental 4-cyl engine together with magnetic fluid-drive transmission, which probably sounds better than it worked... EDIT Actually, I've just looked it up and it was a Hercules engine on this one, although the earlier one did have a Continental motor...
I'd guess about 4,000 pounds apiece, tops. Cars back then weren't as heavy as you might think. They had thicker sheetmetal than they do today, and the engines were incredibly heavy lumps, and suspensions were probably beefier than they are today. But a lot of the internal bracing and such just wasn't as substantial as it is with many of today's cars.
....for your viewing pleasure. She may be old , but she still scubs up nice. The chrome is factory, as the car was originally a manufacturers display vehicle.
That's right, it's a 1950 Oldsmobile 303 Rocket engine. That dressed up version would have appeared in one of those Autorama show cars, like this '49 with the transparent hood, to showcase this awesome new engine.
I think you mean GM Motorama, not "Autorama". My Dad took me to it every year at the Waldorf in NYC for much of the 1950's. I saw some pretty awesome cars including Harley Earl's le Sabre and the Firebird concept car as well as the `1953 Corvette. I think your '49 Olds must've predated that by a couple of years.
This is just one more cool car that we don't get here.
I wish at least one US car seller would gamble on a model like this: A 5-door tall, sporty hatch with a decent turbodiesel engine and manual gearbox. The Mazda5 comes closest here, but Europe is thick with rigs like that SEAT (Ford S-Max for instance)
Black and white police car is a 1959 Ford. Two white police cars are 1959 Oldsmobiles. Yellow and white car in corner os a 1955 or 56 Buick Century, I can just about make out a 1953 Buick, two 1957 Fords, a 1955 or 56 Ford convertible, a 1958 Lincoln, two 1960 Fords, a 1958 Plymouth, a black 1956 Cadillac, and a 1960 Cadillac in the background. I don't know the year of the Willys Jeep or the International truck.

I'm going to guess it's a 412 of some vintage in the late '80s? (not too up on Ferrari)

2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Probably a lot less than today's SUVs or pickups!
....back to the weeds.
True, I keep forgetting Andy's rule back in Post #1.
Let me try to make it up to you (well, no fins, but the year is ok). Another one from Bob over at Straightline:

That one looks more aggressive (fenders, wing) than the few I recall seeing in early 90's photos.
