That's correct gb, although the idea is close to the Tornado, Pontiac does not get the cigar unless they at least put a V-6 in it. I don't think anybody will but a V-8 sports car\truck(like the SSR).

You're probably right, that the truck version of the G8 probably won't sell that well in V-8 form with the way gas prices are today. In its defense though, the thing is probably more versatile than the SSR was. That thing was basically just a trophy. Something to buy and show off the fact that you have money (or credit). It was pretty quick as I recall, and you'd look good in it with the top down. But as a truck, it was pretty useless.

At least the G8 ute should be about as useful for truck-type things as a 1987 El Camino. I'd guess it would also be more economical than the SSR was. I pulled up the fuel economy ratings, and the SSR is rated at 14/18 with the automatic. The V-8 G8 is 15/24. I guess though, it's possible that the ute version is beefed up, and not as economical. For example, a 1985 El Camino with the 305-4bbl/4-speed automatic is rated at 14/20, while a 1985 Monte Carlo with the same setup is rated at 15/22.

That class is popular in Brazil. Ford makes one, as does VW, and I think Fiat last time I checked.

I've heard them called "quinhentos", which means Five Hundred, for the 500 kg payload.

That's 1100 lbs, not bad for something so small.
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
I looked at the 2008 v-6 G8 sedan numbers and they are at 17/25 mpg, that's not too bad for it's size and rwd. I thought the G8 would be a 2009, I wonder why Pontiac made it an '08 this late in the year ?
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,088
Yeah, 17/25 isn't bad at all, considering that's the newer, downrated EPA numbers. I wonder if Pontiac released it for '08 to spread the volume around a bit? If they had made them all 2009's, maybe that would've sunk the CAFE averages too low, but in spreading them between 2008/2009, maybe it helps lessen the damage?

Did you drive the V-6 G8? If so, how was it? I'm trying to keep from having to buy anything else for awhile, and if I do, it'll probably be something sensible like a Civic or a 4-cyl Altima. But I have to admit, the G8 is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me! Haven't had a chance to drive one yet, though.
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
I was at the Pontiac dealer on Sunday looking at Vibes(trying to be sensible also), and noticed the G8. The combined mileage on the v-6 was 22 and uses regular, the v-8 I believe requires premium.

I thought 22 was pretty good when compared to the Vibe's combined mileage, which is about where I usually fall, was only 28. The sticker was about $26k pretty well loaded. I may have to at least drive one before I decide.

    Ford Fiesta?

I'd say it dates back to '84 but the paint doesn't look like any I saw over here on this side of the pond.

Fiesta XR2Ti .. the hot hatch version.

I don't think that iteration ever made it to the US .. only sold here from '77 to '80 (?).

My dad had a friend who owned one ... orange (weren't they all?). Seemed like a neat little car.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,088
Is that XR2Ti version an update of the late 70's Fiesta we got here in the US? While at a quick glance the car looks more modern, something about the passenger cabin looks the same, like maybe they just put more modern looking sheetmetal on it to try updating it?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,581
The car has a plate with an E prefix, so it was registered in 1987/88. Just as you noticed, it's the old Fiesta greenhouse with a new nose and trim.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
The ad lists it as a 1987 Ford Fiesta XR2 1.6, not an XRTI, color is "Mercury Grey."

AAAHHH!! A 425 Nailhead in a '65 Riviera GS (do I get extra credit for naming the car from the picture????)

Ok the clamshell gave it away ;)

I think clamshell refers to the hood that opens from the firewall, instead of the front grill...

The hidden headlights open in a "clamshell" fashon.

Subaru Legacy STi S402 is correct, if not a little long. As for JDM only, I seriously doubt anyone in NA would shell out $50K+ for a Subie.

Indeed they do. You're very observant, only the tiniest sliver of the headlight enclosure shows in the photo. :shades:

Not just a Toronado, but a Toronado "XS" (sums up the period pretty well), I will guess 1977.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,875
I remember seeing them, when they were new... I just can't remember at what point in time that was..

I remember drinking all night in the bar.... I just don't remember which night it was..

I remember that girl from the bar... I just don't remember her name..

...:cry::cry: I can hardly stand to call THAT thing a Lancia Delta.

I'm sure Miki Biasion, Juha Kankkunen, Didier Auriol and Carlos Sainz are having a tough time swallowing the news that "their" beloved rally machine, the Delta, is now a fat, pale imposter.

Geez it's not as if the original Lancia Delta Integrale was a thing of beauty>

The last good-looking championship Rally car was another Lancia, the awesome Stratos>

VW Passat (US market Quantum) made from ca. 1982-88. This one appears to have Russian (?) plates. Probably not a car I would want to tow anything with.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
This VW - it is a second generation Passat, sold in many markets as a Santana, although only 1981/5 - then they dropped that name, and called it Passat, like the rest of the range, when it carried on to about 1989.
I'm not sure it is registered in Russia - the plate looks Romanian or possibly Bulgarian, but it could equally be former Yugoslav, or one of the ex-Soviet republics like Armenia, or Ukraine. I note the blue Moskvitch or IZH in the distance. If it is the latter, that would point to ex-Soviet area, as they didn't really export the IZH.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Yep it's a Gen2 Santanna (Passat in Europe, Quantum in the US).

    You're off by a decade, Jose, it's a '62, modified a bit with a Chevy 302 under the hood.
I think the early ones were called P1800s and the P was dropped around 1970(?).

Yup, now you said it, I remember having seen one around 1965. I was a teenager then and I watched the car in astonishment. She belonged to a local soccer player. Moreover, Roger Moore 'The Saint' enjoyed one of these Volvos. ;)
