From a documentary biopic about the man in the passenger seat, beaucoup extra points if you can ID him as well as the car>

Looks like the Chevy Vega my dad had back in the 70s.

    Year? Dunno, 1976?

Shot in the dark: Austin-Healey Sprite, with Stirling Moss in the passenger seat?
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
The Vegas pictured are all 1971-72 models. Slightly larger bumpers arrived in '73, followed by even bigger bumpers as part of a ruinous restyle in '74.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I guess my dad got it used, so we had an earlier model.

All I remember is that thing being the biggest piece we ever owned.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Sorry Stephen, the car is a 1958 Sprite but you're not even close on the guy.
Moss is a lot smaller than that guy (hint).

I think the guy is Ingemar Johansson.

    Ingemar Johansson.

Bingo, it's the one time World Heavyweight Champion from Sweden, squeezed into the tiny Sprite cockpit.

I'm pretty sure it's a Chrysler "LA" block, but my guess is that it's the hot 273-4bbl that was used for a few years in the first-gen Barracuda. That engine bay looks like a '63-66 A-body (Dart/Valiant/Barracuda) to me.

My 6th grade teacher was his cousin. She was small, but once she mentioned the relationship she had very few discipline problems.

Close Andre, it's a 273 in a '65 'Cuda but the caption says it's only the 2 barrel carb (base V8).

That air cleaner, the valve cover shape, and that ballast resistor on the firewall all speak pentastar...
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I knew immediately that is was Moparian by the valve covers and the broad timing case cover.

1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II (I love my monitor!).

Looks like it's the only survivor
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Correct! It's the most awesome Mercury never built. It had a Ford counterpart called the Torino GT which also never was produced.

Bit sketchy on this but I think this is a DB (Bonnet?) - they made small Panhard engined cars in the late 40's/early 50's and used to win the Index of Performance each year at LeMans - I imagine this is at a LeMans classic event.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    Yep, it's a Deutsch-Bonnet DB1 ca. 1955.

    1966 Ford Country Squire
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,602
With one of the smaller engines. I think the Squire had the 289 standard but it's more likely a 352.

Don't know which motor but a 289 would seem smallish for such a sizeable car.

Some kind of late 70s-80s Bristol, numeric name which I can't recall
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
I think it's a 412, but IIRC they renamed the same old car when they abandoned the numeric scheme, and I don't recall the "new" name.

Yup, it's a Bristol 412 Beaufighter(CA. 1970-80s) named after a fighter bomber built by Bristol during WWII.

It was and I doubt that many had them, but that was the standard engine. In the lower trim levels you could even get a 240 cu in six.

The chrome luggage rack is missing & that set it off to be complete. As for engines, the 289 was standard for the Squire. We had a 67 Country Sedan with the 390 4V & it was great.
