Tatra 613, that one is likely 80s or early 90s production. Tatra was one of the best rays of hope in the Eastern Bloc during the cold war.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
    Yup, Tatra 613 it is.

There's only one lens in the world like this, so you might get it:

Think of one of the wackiest cars ever mass produced by the Big Three

Yep, Citroen CX variant of some kind, probably early 80s, spotted in the parking garage of the local concours yesterday.

Inbetween a 944 and a previous generation Camry, and that's a fintail door mirror at lower right

Too bad we have to disqualify y'all from the grand prize for breaking the "MY 1946 and newer only" rule from Post #1.

(and don't ask - there is no prize, grand or otherwise. :P )

    Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder?

    Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder?

Nope, sorry. FYI Ferrari, Alfa and Fiat spell it S-p-i-d-e-r.

Only Maserati and Porsche spell it with a y. In any case it's not a 250 GT of any kind.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
That's it Mr. S. There was another 275 Spider, the 275 GTB/4 NART Spider , concieved by Ferrari's US importer Luigi Chinetti. Essentially it was a chop-top GTB/4 Coupe, 10 built all for the US market. Today they're more valuable than Daytona Spiders.>

What Ferrari was the one that got trashed in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off?" Hopefully, the one that went backwards through the plate glass window off a cliff was a replica!
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,526
not sure of the exact model, but I do know that it was a replica. Even in those days, a little pricey to trash making a movie!

A replica of the Ferrari 250GT California based on an MG chassis was trashed in FBDO>

    Replica:

    Real:
    image

There were several variants of the Spider California which came in long or short wheelbase form and some had open headlights while others had the glass fairings.
To make things even screwier it's easy to confuse some special bodied 250GT Pinifarina Spiders with the California. I saw a Fantuzzi-bodied PF that looked very much like a Spider California.

The less said about the current production California Spider, the better. It's the ugliest Ferrari ever to go into series production IMO.

I disagree. While the current California is a bit overwrought, consider these prancing warthogs:

    2 statements in reply:

    1. There is no such thing as an ugly Ferrari
    2. The "ugliest Ferrari" is like comparing the "ugliest supermodel"

There's no accounting for taste is there? I happen to like the 330GT 2+2, it's a nice clean design, you might be surprised to know I prefer the four headlight version shown, it looks more substantial than the two-h/l revision.

As for the Dino 308 GT/4, I think it's an OK, if not thrilling design (only production
    Ferrari styled by Bertone IIRC).

The 308 Mondial is a bit boring but hardly ugly especially compared to this misbegotten shape>

Just for a change of pace here's my candidate for the best-looking Ferrari>

I was gonna guess on that 275 but I wanted to see the image again so I didn't. :shades:
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
It's interesting that people will pay more for the 2 headlight version---perhaps $25,000 more. So most people seem to be willing to put money on their opinion of "beauty".

The 308 GT4 is an unfortunate car, style-wise, and as a consequence, it is about the cheapest Ferrari you can buy, tied with the Mondial 8 coupe, another Ferrari "mutt" if one might use the term. A smart shopper might nick one for $20,000.

then again, there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Ferrari (or Rolls, or [insert exotic marque here])

My favorite, purely from a styling point of view, is this one, which has the added benefit of looking better in blue or silver than in red:

I think they hit their apex in the sixties though, although that may be true for most car designers.
