I don't remember the Conestoga. I do remember that that period of Studebaker was "forward looking" with a set of colors and combinations that broke away from the dark blacks, blues, and maroons.

I liked those mid fifties Studebaker Conestoga wagons, particularly the 4 door ones. They had a unique look without resorting to plastering them in chrome and fake wood. I think they were clean and distinctive from the competition. However, I'll be honest and admit I also liked the Nomad of that era.

That yellow or chartreuse Stude wagon must be really rare - I didn't know
    Studebaker ever made right-hand-drives!!!

    >Chris Skinner 1954 Champion Conestoga wagon. The car has few factory accessories apart from overdrive and hill holder but is unusual because is was built in South Bend for export in right hand drive form. Brisbane, Australia.

I hadn't noticed the steering wheel location. I was amazed to recall seeing the brighter colors of the fashionable Studebakers of the day.

And of course it would be the SLK that's parked illegally....good way to get clipped.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
It's Italy - I don't think parking illegally figures in the average driver's mind... But yes, its an SLK.

The Ford Popular 100E from that great period British shot was a run-off model after the Anglia 105E had been introduced, ie from late 1959 to about 1962. It still used the old side-valve engine and replaced the previous Popular 103E which was a re-worked prewar design that had soldiered on into 1959 as Britain's cheapest full size car (full size to us, that is..). The new Popular 100E was a stripped version of the previous Anglia 100E although that was basic enough anyway, so I'm not sure what they managed to take off...

That's a Crosley Hot Shot, they're fairly rare.

I'll take a few. 4 door hatch in the foreground looks like a mid 90s Fiesta (although I think a period French car looked similar). Silver car by the little window van looks like a Lancia Ypsilon, and what looks like a pretty blue Alfa 147 beside it.

I don't know if the SLK is parked too badly...I think I see lines under the car, its just a little outside of them. Perfectly acceptable for Italy :shades: ...and a large gap isn't needed, as there aren't any vacuous 90lb housewives in Denalis swilling their Starbucks and yapping on the phone as they dawdle around aimlessly.

It's an Autobianchi Bianchina - early 60's - or a relative... Strangely, though, it looks Japanese - like an early Mazda or something.

Yes on the Alfa and Lancia, but the foreground hatchback isn't a Fiesta - you were right with the French though as it's a Citroen Saxo, (There's another one in the same shot - a blue one - in the distance).

Actually the parking wasn't that bad in Italy - not like the French who park anywhere - the Italians will squeeze into the smallest gap, but do it properly, and they generally seem capable of avoiding accidents despite driving at full throttle on zero width roads!

Yup, it is related to the Bianchina and like the Bianchina it's based on the Fiat 500. It was known as the Autobianchi Lutece--I have been able to find out very little about it. If you google Autobianchi Lutece all the results are in French which doesn't help me at all.

Even carsfromitaly.com and wikipedia have nothing. :confuse:

"If you google Autobianchi Lutece all the results are in French which doesn't help me at all."

Well, if you babelfish the first few paragraphs in the History section of the French Wiki page, it's pretty funny:

Its first manufacture, Bianchina, is born to satisfy a purely female request of the Italian high society which wanted a car of small size, easy to lead and which is not that of Mister everyone, that is to say the FIAT 500.

C' is why, in an economic preoccupation with a profitability, FIAT proposed d' to use the base of its own FIAT 500, platform and mechanics, but d' in modifying the body deeply. The car was presented in the form d' a mini truck with almost three volumes, the trunk being rather symbolic system. Equipped d' an able cockpit d' to accomodate four adults comfortably, she proposed a roof sliding in fabric and was declined in several versions: Truck, Trasformabile, Panoramica (which will be then baptized Giardiniera), and Furgone for the version station-wagon.

Presented on September 16, 1957 to the National museum of Sciences and Technology Leonardo da Vinci of Milan, small Bianchina appeared in its baptized version “Trasformabile”, equipped with two doors and d' a small prominent trunk, some chromiums and a hood in fabric which entirely discovered the roof. Resting on the basis of mechanical the FIAT 500 of 479 cm ³ and 15 ch, it adopted the engine and the gear box of it.

Really like the lil' cabriolet version.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Close, Stickguy, it' a 1968 Shelby GT-350, indistinguishable from the GT-500 unless you can read the badge or open the hood. There was no convertible before '68 except for a dozen or so specials made in '66 and distributed by Shelby to favored recipients (including CS himself).

I guessed on the 500 since I could not read the badge, and it seemed tht the 500 was more common (or at lest, that is what you see today).

I would prefer a small block for more nimble handling myself. A CJ 428 seems like way too much engine for that car.

fintail got 2 of them, but that's weak, let's try for more folks....

I believe I see a Fiat Dolbo minivan..

Maybe a Hyundai Atos in light blue next to the blue Alfa?

And the black car next to the SLK has me thinking it's a 2nd Alfa in that pic. Either that or a Seat hatchback. I only see 1/3rd of it.
