In Brazil, at least, I believe that was called the Fiat Siena.

My mom had a Palio, the 5 door hatch version of that car.

It was nothing special...rusted out early enough that we convinced her to get a Honda Fit.

I figured you'd be the one to get that, Juice. Yup, it's a Brazilian 2005 Fiat Siena, I don't know if it has a Euro market equivalent, perhaps the Brava.

According to Wikipedia they're also made in Turkey, Vietnam, Poland, India, RSA....etc, etc.

"rusted out early enough that we convinced her to get a Honda Fit"

On the coast I guess? I wouldn't have guessed that rust was very common in Brazil...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Yes, my mom lives beach-front.

It's incredible, overnight your car is completely covered with caked-on salt mix. They have someone rinse the car daily, no kidding.

Her Fiat Uno had complete rust-through, perforation, in the trunk in less than 12 months. The Palio was only slightly better. The Fit's been fine, 3 years so far.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136
Yikes, one year rust through on her Fiat? Doesn't bode well for Fiat's return to U.S!

    Wretched looking pickup. Ugh!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Hope they're not planning to sell that pickup to anybody.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That was a Fiat Uno. I think they still sell them, even though a new Uno model has come out.

There is a small pickup segment in Brazil, VW sells the Saveiro based on the Gol (not Golf, but Gol, the platform under the old for-sale-in-the-USA VW Fox).

GM has one based on the Corsa, and Ford, based on the Fiesta IIRC.

That one is called the Fiat Strada, that package is called the "Adventure".

Funny thing is it's all fake, that's just a regular FWD model.

Payload for these is 500kg (1100 lbs), though, not bad for small businesses.

Unlike some, I like it. I wonder how it would look with a 7-slot Jeep grille and round headlights? :P

If Fiat/Jeep. would make it with a nice diesel I'd consider getting one.

Great. They could keep shortening it until it disappears. :P
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Any shorter and they would not need a rear axle!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Quick! Can you name a car that was so short that they hooked the transmission right up to the differential?

    Toyota Starlet?

Oh wait, some guy is selling an aftermarket driveshaft made from PVC pipe, so I guess not. ;)

    Smart ForTwo?
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,056
If they would just strip all that cladding off and give it back to Pontiac where it belongs, I don't think that would be a bad looking little rig at all.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Perhaps the Peel P50 that was famously driven through the BBC headquarters by Jezza Clarkson.

I believe it was the TVR Griffith with the 4.7L Ford V-8. Just a short u-joint connected the transmission to the differential. Auto magazines of the time said that it converted a benign little car that did nothing wrong into a manic little car that did nothing right.

They were probably right. My cousin had a TVR 2500M, essentially the same car with a Triumph 2.5L six in place of the Ford V8. It may be the best handling car I ever drove. I'd be surprised if that six was any shorter than a 289.

There's a famous comment from the Car Guys, Click and Clack:

A women phoned in and wanted their opinion on buying a used Fiat. After they stopped laughing, one of them said, "Well, lady, you know the saying 'rust never sleeps'? In a Fiat it doesn't even take catnaps."

    Posted by a two-time Fiat owner (600 and X1/9).

Ah those guys are just old farts who laugh at their own jokes.

Fiats are fun, and America NEEDS cheap, fun cars!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
And did you play with the 500 configurator?

I priced one out spec'd up nicely, and it was dirt cheap. Reverse sticker shock if you've ever priced a Mini.

    Bring on the Abarth!

One of them owns a Fiat 124 Spider. Lucky them, mine basically rusted away but in all fairness so did just about everything in those days.

I'm sure the 500 will have double-galvanized steel. Not really a concern any more.

Most definitely a Ford product. I know it's not a Torino or Fairlaine as they used an instrument panel with four big round gauges. My guess, it's a 1968 or 1969 Ford Galaxie XL per the floor shift.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Can't imagine driving that barge with a 4-speed, but hey, it looks cool.

FIAT: Yep, MINIs are expensive, but in their defense, built like little bank vaults. When I bought a Scion xA, it was a brilliant car for the price (a mere $15K out the door) but let's face it, it was a bit tinny and the wind blew it around like a leaf.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Yep, it's a '69 Galaxie XL/429. I figured the three pedals would fool people into guessing it was a Torino.

    Nice going, Lemko.

That is a Facel Vega Excellence Sedan...probably late 50's....Hemi powered.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
An Army buddy had a similar Mercury Marquis convertible. Nice when it ran, but engine problems, tranny problem...generally a POS.

Is that a 67 Olds Cutlass pillared coupe behind it? Can't make out the red and white car behind it and the fence, maybe a 56 or so Studebaker HawK?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,525
Definitely a 66-67 Olds behind it, red and white car looks like a 57 Ford to me.

This fellow picked a poor place to park. We got some serious rain the last couple days in San Diego. Trying to figure out what this car is.

    Lancia Flavia Berlina?

You've got the right idea but it's from a Fulvia Coupe.

I'm thinking it's some slightly modified Muntz Jet.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
    I'll take a guess - 51 Muntz Jet?
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Looks like we hit about the same time Lemko, but you got there first!
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
You're both right it's a '53 Muntz Jet. Looks like it could use a resto.>

I guess Jim Rockford wasn't as good at river hopping as Burt Reynolds?
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
The silver car far to the right is a 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Rolls appears to be a late 1970s Corniche. The truck looks old enough to be a 1973-74 Chevrolet, (1975-76 models had a silver grille). I think I see a 1968 Lincoln Continental behind the truck. Not sure, but way way back on the left side may be a 1975-78 Cadillac Eldorado. I can barely make out a grille on the station wagon behind the Rolls, but it may be a 1968 Chevrolet.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,424
    76 or 7 Monte Carlo
    Similar vintage Chevy pickup
    Some Rolls convertible
I think an early Pinto wagon behind it
Late 60 Lincoln Continental back on the right

My eyes aren't good enough to make out those farther back but I've got a feeling that there is a 69ish Caddy
