LOL every time I see some ghastly second world SUV, I know who is posting it

I don't know what it is, but it looks like some kind of godforsaken Chinese copy of an old RAV4. Do these people understand styling? At least the Japanese and Koreans can make nice derivative designs...this thing just has no rhyme or reason

Wow. I'm a real DUH today. You know I wasn't cheating... just going from memory (what's left of it).

Kind of like a Speedster with a Cabrio windshield...but I don't know otherwise

It isn't Chinese I can assure you that.

    Any other guesses?

It's the other way round. Renault have developed the Logan as a cheap car but it isn't a recycled Logan, it's new. To sell in Western Europe it's being sold as Renault Logan but it was Dacia first. I sat in one at Frankfurt Motor show last month - really basic, but it is so cheap.

Tata and I think the model is either Safari or Ghurka
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
I don't generally get US cars, as you can see from my guess re the Ford Crestliner earlier, but this looks like an AMC/Rambler Marlin or something to me. Never seen one, but I had a toy car when I was a kid that looked a lot like this and that was a Marlin, I think.

I'll give you this, you're close on the manufacturer. [blatent hint]Think of something that rhymes with Mash[/hint]

Pretty close actually, it's a '58-'59 356A Convertible D, eseentially a Speedster with a taller windshield and roll-up windows. Originally it was to be called the Speedster D. D is for Karossoriewerke Drauz, the body builder. Speedsters had Reutter bodies.

Tucker Torpedo - 1948/49,- they only built about 50, and the only time I've seen one of these beauties was in Las Vegas at one of the casinos (probably Caesers palace but I got mesmerised there so I kept mixing up the casinos)
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
    Yep, it's a Tucker.

    Recognize this?

Nash perhaps? (I always thought they stopped making Nashes in the fins/chrome era)
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
This is Japanese, so a guess is required - Nissan (Bluebird?) circa 1962/65 - I bet it turns out to be a Toyota or Prince but I'll stick with Toyota
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
Sorry, I mean I'll stick with Nissan - lousy typing skills
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
It's a Nissan, and you have the right era, but it's not a Bluebird. :P

    Cedric??
  • strekstrek Member Posts: 14
It looks like a Prince. My parents owned one for a very short time in the early 60's. The build quality was so poor that they gave it back to the dealer after a couple of months.
I think Prince was eventually bought out by Nissan.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Cedric it is, the ones from that era look like Super Snipes to me.

    How about this?=>image

    deSoto 1954?
Never saw many of these around. Guess that's why they quit making DeSotos in 196X--anybody know what year?

Looks like a '53 from the grille but they are kinda tough to spot exactly.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
It is a '54, The photo resembles a contemporary Buick. IIRC DeSoto's were last made in MY 1960.

    Who's got this?

Opel something, made from late 70s to mid 80s, name escapes me
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
1985 Opel Manta B100, I assume from the fenders that it's a hot one.

Alfa Romeo made a 4x4, mostly for the Italian army, and I think this is one of those, in which case circa 1950, but I have no idea what it was called
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
It's a 1953 DeSoto Firedome. There was once a blue one parked in a garage in my old neighborhood.

Does everyone else get the same problem I do when signing in to this forum? I find that when I try to sign in I am continuously directed to a site which wants to 'refresh my profile' and from there - no matter how many times I try to get to here, it just directs me to new car road tests etc. - this happens nearly every time I sign in and so far has happened 6 times today (5 in the last 40 minutes).
  • fiatownerfiatowner Member Posts: 75
I thought DeSoto stopped in 1960 but in Turkey some years ago I saw trucks, which were obviously European style Chrysler products, and not earlier than say 1975 , but were badged DeSoto - not big trucks, more typically 3 - 6ton vans.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Rebadged Dodge trucks were sold in Europe under the DeSoto name, I have
no idea why, nor do I know when this practice was discontinued. I recall seeing an ad for a '55ish DeSoto panel truck for sale in Switzerland.

    Here's a DeSoto Power Wagon!
    image

Apparently you can still get DeSoto-badged trucks in Turkey but they have nothing to do with D-C.

This car is located about 40 miles from me, should I check it out for you? It's in the part of NH that had bad flooding this weekend.

Oh, it is a postwar car.

The Alfa jeep was called a Matta, but I don't think that's it. The Matta had grille openings in the Alfa heart shape.

Chevrolet/GMC cab-and-chassis van, ca. 1990. In St. Louis.

Oh, you mean the RED ones...
The sporty thing on the left I have no idea on.
The middle car is the original cinquecento, known in Germany as the Elefantenrollschuh (elefant roller skate).

The car at the back is an Abarth something I think, the one behind it is a Fiat 600, probably some special model.
