"In 1984, Carroll Shelby partnered with Dodge, and as a result, Dodge found itself with a turbocharged version of the Dodge Omni. Named the Shelby GLH, which stood for Goes Like Hell, it more than lived up to its name and has developed a cult following."
Its funny it seems like the Omni GLH gets all the praise, but the Shelby Charger and later Charger GLHS were much better looking vehicles with basically the same (or a little better) performance.
Oh, so that's what that is. I never got past the VW with the ventless engine lid.
The vents are below the window, not on the engine lid. The big rear window, rear bumper and tailights denote a '65=66-ish Beetle (1200) like my first car, (same vintage as the 427 Cobra). The Beetle convertibles still had vents on the lid.
I think some of "Grumpy" Jenkins' cars are still around, although their authenticity has been challenged. He was an interesting characters--not really a "good old boy"--he was trained as a mechanical engineer out of Cornell University.
The problem with old race cars is that they get blown up and smashed up to the point where it's like the joke about George Washington's ax: the museum first restored the handle, because the wood was rotten, and then they restored the head, because it rusted away.
Kinda doubt it---his cars were pretty ferocious. He was a no-nonsense drag racer but he is held in high esteem not so much for his win record but for his engine-building abilities. He was like the Godfather of squeezing power out of normally aspirated engines.
Not really my strong point but think it is a 1962 Chevrolet Belair. I had a soft spot as a kid for Belair 2 doors which always seemed prettier than the four doors.
I will be interested in the story behind the car; looks like an exercise in self promotion.
1962 Chevrolet Bel Air "Old Reliable II" drag racer that was driven by Dave Strickler. I can barely make out a 1958 Buick in the background and a 1958 Ford Custom 300 near the fuel pumps.
I think the black one on the left looks like a '51 Hudson Commodore. The white one on the right is a '49 or '50 Chevy, and behind it looks like a '52-'54 Ford to me.
I see a parked looking 78-79 Cutlass coupe in the background, I don't see the Seville, but the car exiting at right appears to be another Cutlass of similar vintage.

I don't think any one guessed yet, so I'll say the first one is an Opel Astra.
Well enough of crushed cars, how 'bout.....

Toyota Corolla E80 Coupe from about 1983. I suspect that the wheels are not original.
Been in New Zealand for ast few days and been reminded that similar models are sold under very different names in different markets.
Even saw a Toyota WiLL Vi today in Christchurch (if you thought a Messerschimt was ugly...)
Cheers

Funny pic and begs the question of what happened to Old Reliable #1.
