It's the Karmann-Ghia Type 3 which suceeded the original K-G in Europe, here's what it looked like in front....

Alfa Romeo. I didn't know they made trucks.

Here's another Alfa truck; different model, but similar grille.

Early Datsun (late 1950s) of some sort, I would guess.

Early Datsun (late 1950s) of some sort, I would guess.

It's a 1960 Datsun Fairlady, the first (it was actually intriduced in '59) of a long line of sports cars to wear the Fairlady name in the JDM. We know most of them as the Z cars in North America. I'm not sure if they still use the Fairlady name in Japan.

The early Fairlady roadsters were based on the Datsun 310 sedan and had drum brakes.

Early 1960s Fairlady, whose descendants trace down to the 350Z.

I knew that was a Pontiac, but the rear lights just didn't ring a bell... My mother had a '62 Star Chief, that looked a little like that, but a completely different rear-end treatment.

That's it, '63 was the first year for the LeMans version of the Tempest, the only year for that particular styliing and, IIRC, the first year for a V8 powered Tempest (326CID).

    And here's a pretty one=>

When I see cars like that '48 Aprilia I think Italian car stylists must've spent the entire wartime period dreaming of beautiful car designs. They hit the ground running and
in a few short years displaced the French and Americans as the world's leaders in car design and haven't looked back since.

Renault R4. My association with that car is of Danny DeVito going over a waterfall in one in 'Romancing the Stone'. Hard on the eyes, but were pretty beloved in Europe.

    Lovely Lancia, I'll take it

    VW's fuel injection horrorish nightmare!
    Squareback 412
Alot of owners removed the fuel injection system and
    replaced with carburation.
    Ugh.

DeTomaso something....Longchamps or Deauville or something like that? I know I've seen it before
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Deauville, that's right. Well gee that wasn't as hard as I thought. Bummer.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,427
I remembered it...when I was younger I had a copy of 'World Cars 1978' that I read from cover to cover many times. It was an older book even then, but it was still pretty cool.

Yep another of the Corvette-motored wonders from the Italian maker of refrigerators and three wheelers. Styling by Bertone, when they were at their peak, ca. '63-'64.

    De Tomaso Pantera.

    Bob
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
For some reason that Pantera doesn't look right to me. Just different than I remember (especially the rear section). Maybe I just never really looked at one from that angle?
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
Maybe it is just a different year than I remember because the other car's rump that just shows up in that photo looks like how I remember Panteras looking.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,427
    That's a DeTomaso Mangusta, not a Pantera
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Mangusta means "mongoose", the arch-enemy of......the Cobra!!

    co-incidence? I don't think so.
  • oregonboyoregonboy Member Posts: 1,650
That International Scout was actually a Scout II, the larger successor to the original Scout.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep it's a Mangusta, the lesser known older brother of the Pantera.

I see a green one driving around every so often. Today it was parked next to me at the post office, so I got a good look at it. Amazingly, it's a daily driver - Yakima racks on the roof, a fairly modern cassette stereo mounted under the dash, and not one but TWO forward facing car seats in the back. I'm all for obscure cars, but the wife and kids ride in a 2004 minivan, thankyewverymuch.
