I think it's a Taunus, but a P3 "Badewanne" model - looks curvier than the later car. Those Taunus seem to appear around fintails in old pics.

    Was that a V-4 car?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
    I think those came later.

The Taunus P3 shares some little cues with the 1960 American Ford, IMO.

    G'day

This one is so rare, that I have no idea how to spell it, but it does have a V4

The guy with it might provide a clue

And now for something a lot easier, although I don't think you get them in the USA.

Just bought one of these, eighteen months old, fully loaded with leather, sunroof and hugely loud stereo, for not much money. Almost as quick as a Golf GTi.

whatever that blue thing is, I love it. Just need to put the tires on it (it seems to be rolling around on just the wheels).

I could not drive that on the roads around philly in the winter and get more than 1K on it before breaking at least 2 of those wheels and trashing the tires.

and no, you can't get that in the US.

that white one looks like the evil devil spawn of a mid-60s falcon cabin, corvair rear, DKW nose, all put in the dryer too long so it shrank a bit.

ZAZ Zaporozhets, with dear Putin beside it. From around 1970, some Corvair influence there.

Cool MB B-class, is that yours? Nice color and wheels, suits the car. It's funny that Canuckistan has had them for about 8 years now, but no real sales of B-class yet in the US.

Although the B-electric is a limited US offering - I have yet to see one on the street

    G'day

Very much a rushed decision, given I had sworn never to buy another Mercedes after prior pain with a 1994 C Class.

This is going to sound really silly for someone who has been pondering the new car for some years, deferring the moment until Tamsin got her license. That happened recently so a decision was forced upon me. I do not need another AWD as I still have access to the Kluger (Highlander to you. Indeed Judy and I are taking off to the beach this weekend and will be using the AWD to get into some isolated spots in Croajingolong National Park.

I was pondering a Forester, Honda Jazz or a Lexus of various types with a flexible budget. I was thinking upright driving position in a mid size hatchback. A colleague suggested an Audi A1 which was just too small and I wandered into the neighbouring Mercedes dealership, to find a White demonstrator B200 Diesel with sunroof at about AUD10k off. Limited research confirmed it is one of the safest rated cars in the world, fulfilling one of my demands.

Returned on Sunday with Judy, only to find it had sold.

Judy said she liked the white but would prefer blue so I did an internet search, finding an orphan, an eighteen month old, fully loaded blue B250 at a Subaru dealership near my office. When we got there, it was the final minutes of some four day sales marathon and they were desperate to close any deal. We took a brief test drive, offered a silly reduction on the asking price and with a minimum of arm wrestling, had a deal. The car has about 13,000km on it and I paid about AUD20K off new price.

The wheels are low profile with run flat rubber, so I am not sure that I want to take it too far from civilization. OKay on good roads, but not sure how it will cope with tram tracks.

It was only later that I realized that it was not a diesel and is in fact a very quick 2.0l petrol turbo with 0-100kmh of 6.8seconds. I am now teasing Judy that she only wanted the colour to match the sapphire ring I gave her for our 25th ( more cash around now than when we married). The blue is gorgeous and there is a lovely black leather interior.

I also got an unexpectedly good deal on the Insurance ; my existing insurer offered cover, including for young, inexperienced drivers for lower price than I was quoted elsewhere.

    Not a bad day!

    Cheers

Very cool acquisition, congrats. Yet another neat car that isn't yet for the US, but hey, we get tons of huge pickups and SUVs, so it all evens out, yeah.

I see the B often when I am in Vancouver, so it sells - but many Americans still fear the hatchback.

Asking from a viewpoint of ignorance..., are those wheels painted or are they a metal finish?

Those look painted to me, which is how they came from the factory at any rate. But you could try to powder coat them I guess. I don't think that works very well however. I think it would crack along the spokes. Sandblast and paint 'em and be happy.

The reverse fins worked on certain models but they don't look right at all on the wagon.

I got to car cruise-ins and shows from March to October and see perhaps 5000 older cars during that time. I have never seen one of these preserved. I guess that says it all about the styling.

I have seen a Polara wagon that's white, but a different year and a different rear with no fins IIRC.

I never could figure out what happened there. Maybe someone on the design team found some magic mushrooms and shared. It was too early for LSD or other such recreational substances.

Yes, I'll go with explorer4 as well because of the treatment of the inside headlight surround and the lack of a discrete lower surround feature.

I thought Chrysler handled the uncertainty of quad headlights for 57 best on the Plymouth and Dodge by placing an oversized parking light in the extra space by the headlight. They should have reverted to that in the upper level cars that didn't have quads. The single headlight in that encasement always looked a bit bug-eyed to me. They still could have had the lower placed parking lamps and just made any upper located ones as extras or as dummy's. I don't think they needed to spend big tooling costs to accommodate it all.

It takes a while, but if you stare at them long enough, their identity reveals itself bit by bit.

When the car is impaled by, or surrounded by, trees like this, you have to look at the automobile in a different way than you might if it was just "all there" on the street or at the car show.
