I have a Dinky Sunbeam Talbot, one I found maybe 20 years ago from an antique dealer friend of the family, who sold it to me for about $5, I think:

You're on the right lines but it isn't a Vauxhall...

Yes it is a Holden - this one is an EH from 1966.

I think Dinky made a model of this car ( it was gold and had a white roof in the catalogue) which was one I wanted as a kid but I never saw one - probably most of them were exported to Australia where the real car was a best seller...

This one might be a bit easier

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
This one isn't and in fairness it is possibly a little too rare for our criteria as they built about ten not twelve or more, apparently....

Oh good. I get to redeem myself for missing the Holden. This is a P1900, Volvo's first (and unsuccessful) sports car.

Have not a clue, but it looks like a 55-56 Tbird front end on a 52-53 Ford body, so maybe some kinda Ford?

Definitely Fordish, probably French, Vedettes and their ilk were not that rare, perhaps an interim Simca version
that was part of the transition from Ford ownership.

    Yes - its a P1900 from 1956

It does look like a Ford - especially a European one - but it is much rarer and not from a country which even made cars then... There is no connection to Ford although they may have copied one I suppose.

Sorry -I must have been ambiguous. Now this country makes cars - loads of cars. When this one was made they didn't really have any car industry in the modern sense at all.

I did say it was only in very limited numbers - what I mean is that this was effectively a sort of preproduction run but this particular model didn't get any further - but subsequently they built lots of other cars eventually.

Sorry - this one isn't going anywhere. It is from China and was launched in 1959/60 - it is a Dong Feng and was one of the first attempts at making a passenger car in the Peoples Republic of China (they made lorries and buses etc but apart from a few limos they hadn't tried much with normal sized saloon / sedan models).

Only made about ten so not a success.

Well, it's a Tatra, but my knowledge does not extend to model or year.

Tatra T603, likely an early run car.

I'll pick off the W110 fintail. By the presence of a couple other cars, I'll wager this is in the Netherlands.

The car with its brake lights on is an NSU - probably a Prinz4. The small sports car is a Spitfire... And the car in the right foreground almost obscured by the pedestrian is a Renault 16/

is that a '67 barracuda in the back row?

    It looks a bit like a 'Cuda but I think it's a late 60s Opel Commodore>

My first thought from the picture was an Opel Manta.

I think Buick dealers used to sell Opel Mantra's in the Chicago area for awhile?

It's too big for a Manta, and yes those were sold in the USA by Buick-Opel dealers.

No less than three DAF's - all appear to be 33s. Also I can now see another Renault 16 - lady just getting out of it parked in front of the fintail ...
The small coupe next to her as she does so is another Opel coupe - this one is a Kadett A Coupe which was made from 1962-5.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Sandwiched between a DAF and the Fintail is a Euro-Ford, probably a Taunus but could be a British Granada.
To the left by it's lonesome, an Alfa-Romeo Sprint Giulia 1600/1300 or one of the variants of the beautiful Bertone coupe.

    Yes - it's a Taunus.

Also in the far background is a Hillman Imp.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,431
Fintail might be the oldest car there, or almost the oldest at the very least.

Yes, you are probably right although the Fiat 600 between the Spitfire and the Imp could potentially be older.

Just sweeping up a couple of others - in the back row is a Simca 1000 - it looks like it has slats on the rear window. Also a Peugeot 204 on the left in the distance with what I think is a Renault 6 just beyond it.

Well that grille could be any time after the late 70's but the Renault 4 was manufactured to the end of 1992 - in fact I think it may have scraped into 1993. This one is registered in Italy although the plate isn't complete. They did make these under licence in a few other countries - notably Yugoslavia (the part now Slovenia) from the 70's to about 1992 as well. In Italy Alfa Romeo made them under licence for a year or two but that was in the 60's and this car appears to be later.
I think the present Pope was given one (an old one) at some stage, too.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup, that is an early 90s, Italian-spec Renault 4TL.

its a Euro Ford Granada - some of the lower spec models were sold as Consuls in Britain but I think in Germany where this one is registered (Berlin) they were all Granadas.

It is the Mk 1 and I think the one after the first facelift so abut 1974/5 I would imagine.
