It sure could. A general rule of thumb is that outside temperatures effect tire pressure by a little more than 1 psi / 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, a change of 25 to 30 degrees could easily make a 3 to 4 psi difference. Also, it's not uncommon for tires to lose 1 to 2 psi per month naturally.

I'm really sorry to hear that you've had difficulties with the voice recognition feature. I believe that you've come to the correct conclusion that this is something that they will not be able to "fix". Since there is no "training" type of feature the software is never going to get better at understanding your voice.

Unfortunately, accents will have an effect on systems of this type. My personal experience has been that the voice recognition in the M is better than any system I've ever used. Yes, it misinterprets my commands from time to time, but it is rare and quite frankly, I expect it.

One of the best tips I could give is one that has appeared here before by another poster. When speaking, use a normal conversational tone rather than trying to enunciate very clearly. Enunciation usually introduces sounds that the software interprets as another number or syllable. For example, I've found that the number 8 causes me problems because when I attempt to speak "clearer" I have a tendency to make it sound like a two syllable word...ay-tuh. Invariably, when I do this, the software thinks I've said 8 and 2.

Another common complaint has been with the software mistaking dial home to be dial 0. If you think about it for a second, you'll realize how close in sound home and oh are. The software designers were trying to accomodate people who say oh instead of zero but it has created a problem in certain instances. The clever solution was to simply change the phrase to dial house.

I certainly understand how the inability to communicate via voice command could be very irritating but I think if you learn to speak normally and attempt to listen to the manner in which the computer repeats your command you'll find that the system works much better.

I am going to pick up my new M35 today at the dealer and I received a call from the salesperson regarding the swap of Sirius for XM. I have been with XM back in their early startup and thus wanted to maintain the service in my new M. Well apparently just within the past few days Infiniti released a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the new wiring that they have implemented in the M. They can no longer simply swap the modules that are located in the trunk. The new design (which is present in the car I am picking up) has a different size bracket for XM vs Sirius and the connector on the end of the cable is specific to the particular service put in the car at the factory.

I would assume they would provide an adaptor and replacement bracket to mount the swapped module. Apparently the TSB did not provide enough information for the dealership to determine what the 'solution' is. I am not sure if this is the first step to getting the XM truncation issue corrected or not. My dealer was well aware of the truncation problem.

By the way - my wife's G35 coupe has XM in it and I noticed that the radio in the G only has room for 10 characters so I am wondering if they discovered that they needed to update the XM module for the LCD readout on the M. They would hopefully come to realize that the display can handle the 24+ characters XM sends out.

The dealer provided me some concessions on the mix up and is going to find out more about the TSB and swap mine out when (and if) they get the solution information. Salesperson is great about the whole issue and said they had not heard about this change until this morning (new TSB just came in late this week apparently). He actually said he could have just had the tech 'rig it' but he did not feel right about doing that and called to alert me. I don't want some rig job on my new M and end up with a rattle or electrical problem down the road.

I will let you know what they end up telling me. I am supposed to be speaking to the tech in the service dept about it and I am also going to see if he will adjust the headlights for me while I am there.

Just wanted to share this as it may be the first step in getting us XM fans a correction to the truncation.

I have about 500 miles on my m45 sport now.

I decided to check the passenger cooled seat last night. I can hear the fan running for the seat, but don't feel any cooling for at least 15 minutes, and it's marginally cool, unlike the driver's seat which cools in less than a minute and I can actually FEEL it.

I'm gonna take it to the dealer maybe next week.

    Anyone experience the same thing?
  • creditmancreditman Member Posts: 23
I have had a similar experience with my m35x. Got the car in the end of march. went in for oil change at 3750 miles. told service writer that the driver seat wasn't cooling as good as the test car I drove prior to purchase. Service writer took a single piece of paper and placed it on the seat bottom. He said that the seat cooler should lift off the paper. It didn't. He said he would tell the tech about it. When I went to pick up the car, he said that the tech told him that the seat cooler was only a cooling plate on the bottom and that it wouldn't lift the paper. Tech say the seat was working fine. I personally think he's wrong. I also feel that the seat warmer isn't has warm as it should be. I'm going to mention it again at next oil change.

Had the m35x since the end of march, as of today 11,356 miles no problems other then the seat cooler/warmer. Getting ave. of 18.5 to 21.9 mpg as per fuel ecomony screen.

After several lexus, audis & volvo's the M is the best car I have had.

    Hi Irina,

I recently went on trip with a couple of friends who have very similar problems. All four of us had a problem with the voice activation.

I own the M35 and just had the tires rotated. I cannot get the tire pressure monitor to read the psi....Did they do something wrong when they rotated the tires? Anyone with any suggestions to get the monitor back working?
  • merlin_azmerlin_az Member Posts: 9
The car needs to be driven for a little while for the sensors to pick the pressures up while driving.
If it's still not working, you'll need to go back to the dealership and have them reset the car monitor sensors.
  • donshermandonsherman Member Posts: 15
I called Infinit customer service on this. They said I had 2 choices on recalibrating rotated tires, or shows with monitors 1. Go to a dealer, who has a calibration tool, or 2. Go to an aftermarket tire dealer who has an aftermarket calibration tool- She said that while Infiniti dealers have an Infiniti activation tool, some tire dealers have another version of the calibration tool. However, I have not yet found a tire dealer that has the tool.

Someone I believe Pete probably addressed this issue requiring two turns of the screw but did this affect the adaptive front light movement on turning the car or have any other problems associated with this. I feel my beams are really to low and need to know how others have fared after fixing this problem.

ok, i've paid the big bucks for the great Bose system with DVD....but I cannot figure out how to get the music dvds to play properly! For example, I purchased a dvd music video--popped it in the dvd player. But, it only plays part of the first selection, over and over...none of the controls works (e.g., next track--i get a message to the effect that that command will not work).

The only way I can get it to play "properly" is to park the car, put the brake on, and play it as a video on the screen. Then I get the full menu and all works great. I can even take the brake off (and of course loose the picture) and the menu selections work--e.g., next track etc. BUT, there has to be an easier way to play these???? I have not seen many music only dvs out there, but rather the music/video types, which I thougth were supposed to be playable on this dvd.

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks!

Nope but I've become an admirer of their newest cars.

I was a Mercedes loyalist for over 20 years but my '03 SL500 has soured me for now. While I've yet to resolve the M-B SL500 issue, I've added an '03 G35 Coupe and '06 M45 Sport to the garage and have been very impressed with the great strides they've made recently.

I think they've introduced interesting styles, vastly improved materials (M45, not G35 Coupe), and in most reports have equalled or even exceeded Lexus in product reliability.

There are still plenty of things that they can improve upon but I think that they are doing the things necessary to compete with the higher prestige brands.

I'm more than pleased to help toot their horn.

I had my M35 in the shop two weeks ago for an oil change and had them take a look at the TSB for the rattle. They said they fixed a cross-brace. The rattle came back after about five miles.

As before, it comes and goes. Sometimes it is absent for a few days, and at others, it rattles even on nearly smooth pavement.

I have finally found a way to stop it while the car is moving. Before, I was trying to isolate the noise by damping vibrations (with my hand) in the rails and other metal surfaces near the moon-roof. I find that I can make it stop by pushing up on the headliner between the moonroof and the handle above the side window.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with the same noise and the same "solution". I will be calling Infiniti to see if they can permanently fix it.
  • drtraveldrtravel Member Posts: 395
Actually I was the first one to complain about this problem (the photos in the TSB are my car!) and it took them two tries to fix the problem but the second attempt has resulted in silence. Sounds like they just need to take your information and fix it right.

PS I'm also responsible for (I think) the exhaust pinging sound TSB. The joys of buying one of the first cars off the boat!

Anyone else notice that their fuel gauge doesn't move uniformily? Seems like the gauge moves at one speed between the full-3/4 and 1/2-1/4 sections but moves much quicker during the 3/4-1/2 (especially) and 1/4-empty sections. Also when the gauge is at zero I still have almost 3 gallons left in the tank.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
That's actually a design feature and it's "normal" for every car sold in the U.S. It's a long explanation, but it all boils down to avoiding frivolous lawsuits.
  • tkeskictkeskic Member Posts: 5
    Any chance you have a link that explains this? I find it interesting that someone decided that this was the best way to handle this, and I was hoping to learn what the motivation was;

    I just spent the last 45 min searching the web for some articles etc, but nothing useful; I guess the problem with indexing everything, I couldn't find the right key word combo to get to the info I wanted to find;

    If you have it, it would be great, if not no big issue;

    Thanks tayl0rd

I have had my M35 sport for about 6 months, and now that the weather has gotten cooler, I am noticing a fairly loud wind whistling from the top of the windshield at speeds above ~40MPH. Only seems to be there in cooler (~50 degrees) weather. Wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem before I take it to the dealer!!
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Unfortunately, I don't have a link. I read about that a good 3 years ago. It might even be in a back issue of one of my auto mags.

I plan to purchase four new wheels and winter tires for my '06 M35 through Tirerack. I'd like to purchase four pressure monitors for the wheels from an Infiniti dealer and give to Tirerack (as Tirerack is willing to mount them for me).

Am I likely to run into any issues with this plan?
  • tkeskictkeskic Member Posts: 5
No problems, thanks for the reply... if you happen to come across something - please let me know.. I'll keep looing in my spare time anyways...
  • alanpreston05alanpreston05 Member Posts: 36
Adjusting the headlights really is easy - thanks for that robin. Many of us agree that the factory-set beams are dangerously low, but my dealer refuses to raise them saying that they are "at spec". So I raised them myself, and it helped a lot, but they're not optimal...yet.

I am concerned about blinding oncoming drivers though...

I have found helpful generic information on the web for adjusting beam height, but was wondering if anyone knows of anything issued by Infiniti about this, like a TSB or other such reputable source regarding the M's.

    Thanks

    Alan

Are you sure that they will mount yours? They sell them directly (confirmed yesterday) although at a slightly higher cost (probably comes out close if you figure in the shipping). They may not want to take the responsibilty of installing something you supply.
  • james27james27 Member Posts: 433
I've only owned one car that had a linear fuel gauge indication - a 1971 Citroen ID19! There is no excuse for it to not be linear. With today's tanks it can be a real challenge since few are a nice shape (requires either multiple sensors or a non-linear sender). I can live with it not actually being empty when it reaches the "E". But, if I know it gets 20mpg, and it is on 1/2, that I have a specified (easily calculated) amount left. I have found, though, that the low fuel sensor is pretty consistent in most cars; this is at least some consolation.

Has anyone been able to sync a Treo 650 to the M35? Do all the functions work? Any secrets to the sync?

I know what you guys are going to tell me, but here's what the problem is:

My wife uses the car (06' m35x).

She has "glanced" a curb and instead of it rubbing the tire, it hits the rim first and destroys the wheel.

The first time was when she cut a corner curb a bit tight....put a chunk in the rim, and cut the tire.

The second time, I was in the car, she just barely touched the curb parking, again, hit the rim and scratched the crap out of it.

If I look at the tire, I see that it offers no protection to the wheel...it actually sits behind the lip of the rim.

Most times if someone rubs a curb it hits the tire first, not on the m35x with 18", the rim gets it.

If I change to a different tire, will the sidewall stand out a bit more to protect that rim?

The tires on the car now are the eagle-rsa.

    Thanks
  • David EhrlichmanDavid Ehrlichman Member Posts: 47
Are the rims on a FX with 18'' the same as the 06' m35x?

I have synced my 650 with my M35. No issues, but I'm not sure about all the features of the 650. I only use some of the features, as I needed to stop reading the 650 owners manual part way through in order to begin reading the m35 manual.
  • slc05slc05 Member Posts: 2
Thank you for the information. Does the 650 work with the basic features such as phone book and calls through speakers?
  • angelsangels Member Posts: 4
There was a fairly long thread about the treo and M series about few months ago. My understanding is that the treo (mine included) does not stay connected when no call is active. Personally, I have very acceptable call quality through the HFL when a call is active. As for functionality, you are limitred to having to place calls through the treo, incoming calls seem to go through without much problem. One way of thinking about it, the Treo treats the M like a regular headset.

As an aside, you may find it possible to place a call via the M system by manually storing a number into the M directory and assigning it a voice tag. Then, when you want to place *that* particular call, re-establish the bluetooth conex by holding the 'voice' button on the steering well down for a second or so, wait for the phone to connect, then issue a voice command to 'call . All of this can be done about a microsecond before the phone disconnects its bluetooth connection.

Bottom line with my experience to date:
    * Look to see if your treo has the latest firmware (go to http://www.palm.com/us/support/). I have the unlocked GSM version. You will find that networks (such as sprint verison ect) vary in the timing and focus of new firmware. I think some users have tried firmware from other networks with no (if not worse) results on the M.
    * place calls via the treo (which automatically establishes a bluetooth connection)
    * incoming calls go to the HFL within about a second of you hearing it on the treo (you can then pick it up or decline using the M's on screen commands)
    * forget downloading your treo phone book for now
    * wait for a new Treo firmware that keeps the bluetooth link active when you are not on a call.

If anyone else has figured a workaround, I would love to hear about it....

Don't know if you saw my post...but the adjustment was extremely easy and did not affect the adaptive movement. I am pleased with the higher position, but I struggle a little as I continue to try to get the adjustment "optimal" without blinding oncoming drivers, and to get both lights pointing evenly. I advise using a LARGE screwdriver and watching the revolutions of the cog carefully so as to move them equally. Consider marking them with permanent marker or something so you can always go back to the factory setting or at least count the number of ticks that you've moved them.

    Hope this helps!

I had the same problem with my car (rattling noise from underneath or rear passenger side). On the second trip to the service department, the problem was solved. They said it was a brake cable and that a "bulletin" had been issued about it being a problem in a few vehicles.

The now-solved rattling noise is the only problem I have had with this amazing vehicle.

On a long cross country trip in my Infiniti M35X I encountered a situation where it seemed that the pressure-sensing value on one of my tires was leaking. As it turned out this wasn't the problem, but I strongly recommend that anyone doing long trips carry a spare valve. The problem is that if the valve fails you can only replace it with an Infiniti valve. I was in Park City, UT - miles from any Infiniti service, at a tire shop where even though they had a tire they couldn't have effected a repair if the valve had been the problem. Standard valves are of no use.

FYI, the problem was caused by a faulty tire "plug" (not a proper patch) installed in a high performance tire by an Infiniti dealer without my knowledge. I was told the pressure sensing valve had to be cleaned and this had been done - no one ever mentioned plugging the tire!!

Finally, I too am experiencing problems in getting Infiniti to adjust the low beam - at the infiniti specification they are DANGEROUS above 40 mph - sharp cutoff at 70 feet in front. Infiniti customer service has advised me they are unaware of any complaints!
  • tkeskictkeskic Member Posts: 5
    I have the same concerns and issues with the headlight positions; In the city its no so bad when you have street lights etc, but any remotly dark space, this is a seriose safty concern;

I have (as a resident of canada) sent a complaint and request for investigation via our highway transpostion safty agency at: http://www.tc.gc.ca/en/contact-us.htm

I would urge others to do the same for there home country; it doesnt appear Infiniti really understands this concern.

No to mention anyone who has been told its fine, to find out the hardway - its best that we action it with complaints to the governing body that can investigate and require (legally) an action if in fact its not safe...

I've had my m-35x for over seven months. As of today 12354 miles on the clock. Left this morning to take my son to school after the m sat outside all night. (wife's car & my 60 chev. impala taking up garage.) In Detroit area temp was 33 degrees, I started the car and the tire pressure waring light on the gage panel wouldn't go out. Check the pressure monitor screen when I started out and they all read 27psi with the left rear stating low pressure. I drove & watched to reading in all the tires go up to 30 psi, but the left rear still stated low pressure. Call the dealer from the road and they said that they received several calls this morning about others with low pressure warning lights on. They said that it may have to do with the cold weather this morning. After 25 mile commute to my office the warning light still is on with all the pressure reading at approx. 32psi. Taking the car in to the dealer on monday as they said it might be the sensor.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Are you positive it's not the spare that's throwing the low pressure warning? With the colder air at night, the air in the tires condenses. When you drive, of course it heats up, but the spare doesn't get heated. My car has been telling me the spare is low for a few days now. I'm just too busy to adjust the pressure lately.

Just throwing an idea out there. I don't have an Infiniti M (yet), but a Chrysler (300)M. I've been getting big pressure drops at night even though it's garaged nightly. I'm considering emptying them completely and refilling them, or taking them to be filled with nitrogen.
  • creditmancreditman Member Posts: 23
The M doesn't have a screen that reads the pressure in the spare. The info screen just shows the 4 tires on the ground.

Yesterday when the low pressure warning came on & I went to the info screen it shows 27 psi in all of the tires with the left rear highlighted and listing "low pressure". I took my son to school and drove to my office approx, 23 miles, at speeds of 40 to 65 mph. When I parked the car in the enclosed parking lot, the warning light was still on. When I left approx. 9 hours later that night, the light came on at start up and stayed on for another 15 miles. Then I notice that the warning light went out. I checked pressure info. screen and it listed that all the tires were at 31psi.

This moring with outside temp at 33 degrees, light is out and hasn't come back on.

There is a service bulletin concerning this problem with the M35 (but not M45).

I've had my M45 for about 3 months now. I have noticed that the engine lives in the high RPM range (mid 2000's even in idle). Consequently, my mileage has been terrible. Unless I drive like a senior, I can't go from 0 to 50 without heading into the mid 3,000's. In contrast, my Lexus convertible (about the same curb weight) idles at 850 RPM. I've had two other Infinitis and they didn't have nearly as frantic an engine.

Is this normal for the M?
  • mrdeenomrdeeno Member Posts: 4
That is normal for the M45. The engine speed during driving is fixed due to the gearing, and this car is geared for acceleration (I think it is the same tranny/gear ratios as the qx56). Which is also why it sucks on gas mileage also.

It really should have a 6th gear for cruising which would definitiely help the gas mileage problem and high rpm cruising problem...but I guess it was cheaper to use an off-the shelf tranny than to develop a new one.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
It's not normal for any car short of an actual race car to rev in the 2K range at idle. Take it to the dealer.

I posted some messages on the other forum on my traffic accident in my M35x. To date it's been 7 weeks waiting for two structural parts to come in for the repairs to START. I have been given multiple ETA's time for the parts. Each is successively later. Apparently there are NONE in the US and all parts need to come from Japan. I have been told it's on highest priority and the latest ETA is 11/18. (2 months! after the accident) I have no idea why it takes so long to ship parts even from Japan. I have called Infiniti Consumer affairs who promised to "expedite things" but now have agreed that 11/18 is the latest ETA. (Two weeks ago, they promised they would try to airship the parts but don't promise anything now)
Other than complaining over the phone every week, I've emailed infiniti and now mailed a formal letter of complaint.
The body shop which has my car has been stuck with an idle bay stuck with a disassembled car which is wasting their time and money also. Plus I'm paying for a rental still and the bill is mounting. At this point I can only hope the parts come but I'm still furious with this waiting. Under current schedule I'm stuck without my car until december since the body work will take 3-4 weeks. I realize this shortage of parts is occurring partly because it's a new model 2006 but isn't this delay excessive?!

I do not own an M yet, 2 months to go, but I do have an XM Satellite Delphi Skifi2 and it does the same, I have a friend with a honda accord (2004) i believe and it doesnt cut the display off. So, this tells me it is a RECEIVER problem. Like the one installed in the Ms and external ones as well. I honestly dont think Infiniti can do anything to resolve this without installing a brand new updated receiver.
  • mdxmamamdxmama Member Posts: 4
I also live in Dallas and had a similar problem a few days ago with colder weather causing low pressure. Once I filled the tires back up to around 32psi it took about 3 minutes of driving to read the new pressure but around 15 miles and 30 minutes of commuting to clear the yellow warning background which surrounds the display reading.
  • mdxmamamdxmama Member Posts: 4
With less than 1500 miles on my 45 journey/tech I noticed the screen was occasionally slow in coming on upon engine start. Then it blanked out and all electronic controls were inoperative. I took it to a dealer. They ordered a part (Bose amp something or other) suggested by an Infiniti Service bulletin. In less than 2 days after picking up the car I've got the very same problem!! Looks like another trip to the dealer.
  • alanpreston05alanpreston05 Member Posts: 36
Wondering if anyone else uses the manu-matic shifting, and if so, whether your M35x makes it difficult to accomplish a smooth shift? Often mine "clunks" as I try in vain to shift at exactly the right rpm/time/speed. The other shifts are nearly always cooperative and smooth but I can only get 2nd to 3rd to transfer smoothly on occasion. Come to think of it, unless I shift from 1st to 2nd almost immediately after take-off, that transition tends to be cranky as well. Anyone else experience this?

    Hello all,

I am trying to help out out a friend who has an M35. He cannot figure out how to play a DVD. When he purchased the car he got the navigation system and the sales rep told him that an additional feature is he could play DVD's. He had his car in for the seat rattling issue (which they fixed) but when he asked the tech about the feature he said that he didnt know that was a feature avail for this car. So do any of you have any idea on how to make this feature work? He has tried a couple of different ways, the latest being with the car in park with the emergency brake on, but still nothing. Is this an actual feature of this car or was he lied to?

    Thx for your help!
  • creditmancreditman Member Posts: 23
I got a m35x with journey/tech & rear entertainment. You really should talk to my 9 year old. He's got it all figured out and uses it daily with the rear remote.

In order to watch a DVD on the front screen, you must have the transmission in park and the parking brake set. Just load the DVD and it will come up on the front screen.

The system is so cool, because my two kids can watch a DVD on the back screen with their headphones on and I can listen to the radio or cd's and not have to listen to their movie.

remember in order to view in the front screen, you must be parked and have the parking brake set.
